Man Arrested for Cruel Confinement of Cattle Near Noori Ground
Nagpur: Tehsil police arrested a 52-year-old man for confining cattle in inhumane conditions, allegedly in preparation for illegal slaughter. The incident took place near Noori Ground, Mominpura, on Sunday. Around 11.30am, while patrolling the area, Tehsil police received a tip-off about cattle being tied up cruelly in a densely populated locality. Acting swiftly, the team raided the spot in the presence of independent witnesses. They found five cattle tied in cramped, unsanitary conditions, without access to food or water. The accused, identified as Aslam Nabi Qureshi, a resident of Navin Wasti Teka, was taken into custody at the scene. The cattle, estimated to be worth approximately Rs48,000, were seized and handed over to a local cow protection organisation for care and rehabilitation. A formal complaint was filed by PSI BN Khan, and a case was registered under Sections 5, 5(b), 9, and 9(a) of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 (as amended in 1995), along with Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine whether others were involved and if this is part of a larger illegal slaughter operation.

Cow slaughter triggers Kamalnagar bandh in Bidar
Kamalnagar (Bidar): Members of various Hindu organisations enforced a bandh in Kamalnagar on Sunday, claiming that a cow was slaughtered in a shed located on Rampur Road at the town's outskirts. Activists organised a bike rally throughout the town, closing down local businesses and setting tyres ablaze at Allamaprabhu Circle to express their outrage. News of the cow slaughter spread rapidly, prompting youth to gather in key areas and denounce the act. They chanted slogans, calling for the arrest of those responsible. Tahsildar Amit Kumar Kulkarni, CPI Adiveppa Banni, and PSI Chandrashekar Nirne inspected the shed in the field on Rampur Road and discovered the slaughtered cow. Police confiscated the remains of the cow from the incident site. Subsequently, the last rites for the deceased cow were conducted at the grounds of Syed Peer Basha. In response to the situation, DSP Shivanand Pavadashetty stated that, as a precaution, heightened security measures were implemented in Kamalnagar town. No formal complaint has been registered regarding the incident yet. He added that if no one comes forward, police will file a suo-motu case based on the evidence available. The atmosphere in the town remains tense, and additional DAR teams have been stationed.

Speaking to reporters on Friday (June 6) at his residence in Surakarta, Central Java, the former president, who is currently not a card-carrying member of any party, suggested others were better suited to helm the PPP, the nation's oldest Islamic party. 'There are many candidates within the PPP who are far better, have the competence and capacity for the role,' Jokowi said, as quoted by The PPP is currently preparing to hold its national congress, where it plans to elect a new chairman in hopes of staging a comeback after its resounding defeat in the 2024 legislative election that left it with zero seats in the House of Representatives. It was the party's first election loss since it was formed in 1973. Jokowi had been touted as a potential contender in the PPP's upcoming leadership race alongside other party outsiders, such as vocal government critic and losing presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman and former Army chief of staff Dudung Abdurachman. Instead, the ex-president has indicated he is leaning toward the PSI, another small party that also failed to win any seats in the national legislature last year. A self-styled youth party that has been a staunch supporter of Jokowi since his first presidential bid in 2014, the PSI is set to hold its Pemilihan Raya (grand election) on July 19 in Surakarta and has publicly welcomed Jokowi to run for chairman. Due to large gatherings at Idgah Maidan, along Trimbak Road, for mass mamaz, a significant police presence was deployed. Traffic diversions were enforced on two roads near Idgah Maidan from 7am to noon. The mass namaz commenced at 10 am. 5 Cattle Rescued From Abandoned Factory
Nagpur: In a late-night operation, Pachpaoli police rescued five cattle tied cruelly inside an abandoned food processing factory. The animals, deprived of fodder and water, were reportedly being held captive for slaughter. Acting on a tip-off, patrolling team raided the premises between 3:20am and 4:50am on Thursday and found the cattle confined in a crammed space. The rescued cattle, valued at ₹1.2 lakh, have been shifted to a local cowshed for care. Based on a complaint filed by PSI Ranjit Majgaonkar, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of Maharashtra Animal Protection Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act against one Sheikh Shahrukh, a resident of Dobi Nagar, Mominpura.
