PSL transfer news: The ‘Big 3' compete for DREAM SIGNING

PSL giants Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs all want uSuthu star Tshepang Moremi – but only one can have him. According to Soccer Laduma, the Buccaneers are in pole position to sign the dynamic winger, a player who has already proven himself in top-flight football, and his age (24) suggests he's nowhere near his ceiling. 'As I've said, it will all depends on all the talks and negotiations, but it could involve money and player exchange as well,' an inside source revelaed. 'The value of the player and what AmaZulu want from Pirates could also determine the whole deal at the day.' There are a few candidates linked with the Orlando Pirates job, namely Pitso Mosimane, Pablo Franco Martin, and Rulani Mokwena. The latter has piqued club legend Lucky Lekgwathi's attention, but he has concerns. 'Look I don't have a problem with the coach as long as the coach can come and take this team to another level.' 'Look at [Mamelodi] Sundowns. Rulani left, and they got a new coach. That coach has now won the league, and the coach is in the final of the Champions League,' he added. 'We played the semi-finals of the Champions League this season, so next season we need someone who is going to take us to the final and challenge for the league as you know now our problem is in the league where we are not consistent.' 'No matter who is coming, we as supporters, we just need to make sure we support him. When Jose came people called him a plumber and h'e surprised everyone. We supported the plumber and look where the plumber is today. 'He's one of the best coaches to have coached Pirates. That's why I'm saying whoever is coming to coach Orlando Pirates, even if he's a plumber, let's support that plumber or carpenter.' Here's how the final unfolded All-rounder Sikandar Raza wrote his name in Pakistan cricket folklore after hitting the match-winning six as the Lahore Qalandars beat the Quetta Gladiators by six wickets to win the PSL 2025 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Raza, who was part of Zimbabwe's Test team until Saturday afternoon, joined the Qalandars' playing XI 10 minutes prior to the toss for the final on Sunday evening in Pakistan's eastern metropolis. The Pakistan-born off-break bowler and lower-middle-order batter took one wicket and scored 22 runs off seven balls as Lahore chased a target of 202 with one ball to spare. Lahore's run chase was largely built around Kusal Perera's 62 runs, with support from top-order batters Mohammad Naeem and Abdullah Shafique, but it was Raza's whirlwind journey from the United Kingdom to Pakistan and his subsequent role in hitting the winning runs that stole the show and Lahori hearts. Lahore Qalandars players erupt in wild celebrations at Shaheen Afridi's 'iPhone for all' announcement after PSL win

Lahore Qalandars won their third Pakistan Super League title last week when they defeated Quetta Gladiators in the final. However, an interesting video has surfaced from the post-match celebrations in the dressing room, where Shaheen Afridi is seen addressing the team. In a now-viral video, captain Afridi stood in front of his jubilant players in the dressing room and made an unexpected announcement: 'This time, everyone's getting an iPhone.' The declaration triggered a full-blown celebration, with cheers and jumps from a squad already on a high after clinching the trophy with a six-wicket win. The surprise wasn't just the phones themselves, but the sudden shift from tradition. Until now, Lahore had been handing out an iPhone only to the dressing room's chosen 'Player of the Match' after each game. But after wrapping up a third title in four years, Afridi threw that playbook out. Qalandars' 202-run chase, the highest-ever in a PSL final, was orchestrated by Kusal Perera's unbeaten 62, with strong support from youngsters Mohammad Naeem (46) and Abdullah Shafique (41). The game came down to the last over, but Sikandar Raza, who had landed in Lahore only ten minutes before the toss, coolly finished it off with a six and a four in the final moments. Lahore sealed their third title following triumphs in 2022 and 2023. Raza said it was unbelievable to reach Lahore and achieve success. "It is unbelievable, batted for 40-odd overs in the Test, flew to Dubai where I had breakfast and then lunch in Abu Dhabi and arrived minutes from the toss, so it's incredible," he said. Hasan Nawaz scored a brilliant 76 to lift Quetta to 201-9 after they won the toss and batted. Coming in at 21-2, Nawaz added 67 for the fourth wicket with Avishka Fernando (29) and another 46 with Dinesh Chandimal (22) to steady the ship. Lahore skipper Shaheen Afridi was the pick of their bowlers with figures of 3/24. It was Faheem Ashraf (28) who lifted Quetta past 200, taking 23 off the last Salman Mirza over. The six-team PSL was suspended on May 9 following the conflict between India and Pakistan. However, the league resumed on May 17 after a ceasefire between the two countries.

'Anything is possible in South Africa,' Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi after 'second half' match with SuperSport

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has described the 45-minute contest with SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Thursday as strange and unheard of. Mngqithi said he hopes it does not set a bad precedent where clubs will in future switch off lights when results are not going their way hoping to complete matches later. SuperSport narrowly survived the dreaded promotion playoffs with a 1-1 draw with Golden Arrows to officially mark the end of the Betway Premiership campaign. This second half, which ended without goals, was a continuation of the match abandoned at halftime three months ago due to Lucas Moripe's lights going out amid a power failure with the score level at 1-1 at halftime. At that time, SuperSport opened the scoring after four minutes through the effort of Christian Saile and that goal was cancelled out in the 24th minute by Velemseni Ndwandwe for Arrows. 'Anything is possible in South Africa,' - Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi after the match against SuperSport. WATCH full interview ➡️➡️➡️ — Mahlatse Mphahlele (@BraMahlatse) May 30, 2025 SuperSport, whose future remains in doubt with rumours the club is for sale, are equal on 27 points with Cape Town City but have a better goal difference and have saved their status in the PSL. This means City, who finished 15th, go to the playoffs where they will play against Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) sides Orbit College and Casric Stars — pending an arbitration involving MFC champions Durban City — to save their PSL status. 'It's strange, it's unheard of and I hope we did not set a bad precedent,' said Mngqithi. 'If this is what is going to happen, we are going to have a lot of problems with teams switching off the lights when the going gets tough. If the mindset is not right for the match they will know at least we have a repeat the next day or after three months where we may come back better. 'With all the changes you can still make after three months, it may be better for other teams. Personally, I have never heard of anything like this, but in South Africa anything is possible. 'In South Africa sometimes traffic is directed by the homeless, so anything is possible.' SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews said they followed all the procedures set by the PSL. 'We have done everything according to procedure, from our point of view we followed the process and we faced our DC charges and we respected the decision. 'Everyone has their rights to do whatever they want to do but I can't speak for Cape Town City. As far as we are concerned, we did everything we needed to do, we complied with all the conditions put in front of us. 'We fulfilled our league fixture and according to me and the league table we have avoided the play-offs.'
