Hyrox: What is this fitness event that came to Abu Dhabi last weekend?
It's amazing what we do nowadays to keep fit. From gym workouts to running, swimming to biking, they have become a normal part of our exercise regime. But there's a new kid on the block called Hyrox (an amalgam of the words hybrid and rockstar) which is becoming very popular. The first event was held in Hamburg in 2018, but it gained global recognition last year when PUMA became an official partner. During the 2024/25 season more than 500,000 athletes took part across 90 races globally. Abu Dhabi just hosted the UAE's second Hyrox event of the year (after Sharjah in April) with thousands of people taking part. So what's the format and why has it become so popular? Hyrox is a combination of eight different challenges split up with a 1km run before each one. These include fairly simple (but still tough) exercises like lunges, burpees and rowing. In total you run 8km and enjoy a full body workout once you add in the ski-erg, sled push and pull, wall balls and farmer's carry. The average time to finish a Hyrox race is 1 hour 30 minutes and it welcomes participants from all levels. You can even take part in pairs if you feel the 8 workouts and 8km of running is too much for you. So why is it so appealing? 'Over 98% of our athletes complete their Hyrox race. With no finishing time restriction, and no qualification required to enter, Hyrox welcomes every participant with open arms. It is a race to run at your own pace, with the continuous support of friends, family and fellow participants,' a spokesman said. Hyrox events have become so popular they normally have a long waiting list of athletes keen to take part. The UAE events were no different. Jonathan Bannister, Head of Marketing at PUMA Middle East said: 'The response has been incredible. The energy, the turnout, the community it all exceeded our expectations. It's clear that Hyrox has struck a chord with the UAE's fitness crowd, and what we're seeing is the beginning of a passionate and fast-growing Hyrox community in the region. There's a real appetite for this kind of challenge, and we're just getting started.' There was a similar fitness craze in the early 2010s for CrossFit, which partnered with sportswear brand Reebok. But athletes often complained it was too hard to compete, or prone to injuries when they took part. Hyrox has been praised for being more inclusive and easier to finish. 'It's accessible and you don't need to be a pro athlete, but it's challenging enough to push your limits,' added Bannister. 'People love the structure, the measurable goals, and the feeling of accomplishment. Plus, it creates a real sense of belonging in the fitness world.' This sense of community and belonging was clear to see last weekend, at Abu Dhabi's ADNEC with spectators loudly cheering on friends and family, and a party vibe across the arena. Entrepreneur and fitness enthusiast Ram Sadhvani, 52, took part in Hyrox Sharjah in April. 'I was intrigued with this new fast-growing sport and I wanted to see what the fuss was about,' he said. 'It's said to be similar to a half marathon, but I found it far ahead of it. Also, it made my regular strength work look like a joke. To do Hyrox, one has to do a lot of functional work.' Sadhvani recommended a six-month build-up for those who haven't done any exercise in a while. 'I'm actually enjoying the journey of the strength work that you have to put in it.' Following Sharah and Abu Dhabi, Hyrox have plans to return later this year, with the goal to make the Middle East a Tier 1 destination on the global HYROX calendar - bringing together athletes, fitness fans, and newcomers alike. Hyrox-based gyms and coaches are popping up across the UAE to help people train for the event. Dubai-based Energy Camp had more than 30 of its members take part last weekend. Its CEO and founder Seena Akbary said: 'HYROX was never built to be easy. Not just fast runners or strong lifters, but athletes who could do both. It takes a unique level of fitness to have real strength and power while also holding serious endurance. That balance is rare, so making it through the full race is something to be proud of.' Akbary, who recently secured the title of 2024 Hyrox Cape Town Champion, added: 'What really stood out was the way everyone supported each other. From start to finish, it felt like a proper tribe. I don't even like using the word community anymore because it gets thrown around so much these days, but what we experienced was real. The effect it had was powerful and honestly beautiful to watch.'

HYROX Delhi tested us in unexpected ways: Riyan Parag
New Delhi, July 20 (UNI) If HYROX Mumbai set the benchmark, HYROX Delhi took it several notches higher. The iconic Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Center) came alive this morning as 2,600 participants converged to push their mental and physical boundaries at HYROX Delhi, India's second edition of the world's fastest-growing fitness race. The electric atmosphere amped up as top cricketers Riyan Parag, Harshal Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, and Anuj Rawat teamed up for the relay—pushing their limits in a format that was as intense as it was exhilarating. 'Being part of the HYROX event in Delhi was a whole new kind of adrenaline rush. As cricketers, we are used to pushing our limits in training and on the field, but this experience tested us in unexpected ways. Teaming up with Harshal, Ravi, and Anuj for the relay was an absolute blast — full of camaraderie, friendly competition, and a lot of learning. Events like these, where sport meets community and culture, are so important in today's fitness space. I am really glad I got to be part of it,' said PUMA athlete and cricketer Riyan Parag. Part of the global HYROX season, the Delhi race witnessed a whopping 62% increase in participants compared to the inaugural edition in Mumbai, underlining the virality of the format. Racers from across India and 39 countries took to the custom-built arena to complete the standard HYROX format: 8 x 1km runs interspersed with 8 functional workouts such as SkiErg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jumps, Rowing, Farmer's Carry, Sandbag Lunges and Wall Balls. Cricketer Ravi Bishnoi said, 'Being part of the PUMA all-star team at HYROX Delhi was a unique experience, tough, intense, and incredibly satisfying. It gave me a new perspective on endurance and body control, which directly connects with how I train for cricket. Love the PUMA x HYROX gear that was launched recently, it is definitely made for high-intensity athletes. I am happy to have been part of an event that celebrates the strength and commitment of athletes in an inspiring way,' added cricketer Ravi Bishnoi. With participants from every corner of India and beyond, from 16-year-old Shrey Dabral of Dehradun to 66-year-old Ramakrishnan Sankaran from Delhi, HYROX Delhi was a living, breathing showcase of how fitness is evolving into a deeply personal, yet powerfully communal pursuit. Sharing his experience, Cricketer Harshal Patel said, 'I really enjoyed the HYROX Delhi event and how it brought together fitness, competition, and camaraderie in one space. As someone who is constantly working on conditioning and recovery as part of my cricket journey, this was a great test. It is great to be part of PUMA because they understand what an athlete across levels needs to give their best performance.' Spectators witnessed everything from first-time racers discovering their limits to seasoned fitness enthusiasts chasing personal bests. The participants powered through wall balls, gritted their way through sandbag lunges, and crossed the finish line with emotion written across every face. 'For me, HYROX Delhi was not just a fitness challenge, it was a mindset reset. Competing in that environment, surrounded by passionate athletes, really reminded me of the joy of pushing your own boundaries. Whether it was intense runs or strength workouts, the four of us had a great time. It is great to see brands like PUMA championing such events and redefining how we look at fitness in sport,' cricketer Anuj Rawat concluded. UNI RKM

PUMA, LaMelo Ball announce release of 'The LaFrancé RNR Flare' on August 1st
The post PUMA, LaMelo Ball announce release of 'The LaFrancé RNR Flare' on August 1st appeared first on ClutchPoints. PUMA and Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball's lifestyle and fashion brand, LaFranće, have announced their collaboration on a new sneaker design today that takes design cues from lifestyle running shoes, dystopian outdoor vibes, and Ball's energetic personal style. PUMA announced in the release, 'Created in collaboration with Melo's lifestyle brand LaFrancé, the newest star in the Museum of Heem is the LaFrancé RNR. The all-new lifestyle sneaker makes its debut in the Flare colorway, an earth-toned style covered in topographic details. An artifact of unlimited potential, the RNR proves without doubt that Melo is Not From Here.' 'The LaFrancé RNR Flare hits shelves on August 1st and will retail for $120 at the PUMA Flagship store, Foot Locker, Champs, JD Sports, and Snipes,' Puma said. Since 2020, Ball has been a part of the PUMA basketball division and has become the face of the brand. With four signature shoes to his name, Ball's sneaker designs have remained expressive, just like his play style on the court. His shoes have featured things like 'RARE' or 'NOT FROM HERE,' which is inspired from the tattoos Ball has. PUMA has also collaborated with several other brands in the past for some of LaMelo Ball's signature shoes in the past. Fortnite, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Scooby-Doo just to name a few. So PUMA pairing up with their signature athlete's own personal brand seemed inevitable. Ball launched LaFranće ahead of the 2020 NBA Draft before the Hornets selected him. Having done apparel collaborations before with PUMA, the two parties are more than familiar with one another. More potential shoe collaborations could be on the way in the near future. The LaFrancé RNR Flare could just be the tip of the iceberg. LaMelo Ball unveils newest signature shoe, the PUMA MB.05
The post LaMelo Ball unveils newest signature shoe, the PUMA MB.05 appeared first on ClutchPoints. Following a tough end to the 2024-25 NBA season, Charlotte Hornets All-Star Guard LaMelo Ball is anxiously waiting to return and prove himself once again on the biggest stage. He's undoubtedly one of the more talented scorers in the game today and it will be interesting to see how this crop of incoming talent can enhance their roster. Recently, Ball promoted the debut of his latest signature sneaker, the PUMA MB.05, releasing soon. Check our Sneakers news for more upcoming releases and breaking content! LaMelo Ball signed with PUMA Basketball back in 2020 in a surprising move, forgoing the route of Nike or Adidas and opting for full creative control of his signature line over at PUMA. Already five signature basketball sneakers in, Ball is also releasing lifestyle and utility silhouettes through his 'LaFrance' subsidiary line. Sharing the newest signature model on his social media, LaMelo Ball will rock the newest PUMA MB.05 during the upcoming NBA season. The first colorway, appearing in a vibrant pink, is a perfect combo for the Hornets' uniforms and Ball's loud play on the court. PUMA MB.05 The debut colorway, arriving in pink and reflective pearl hues, is a wild culmination of Ball's signature line up to this point. We see intricate textures throughout each aspect of the uppers, from the feathery toebox to the metallic ankle collar. The shoes will also feature a dual midfoot strap attached to the front of the eyelet panel, a truly unique feature that isn't seen anywhere else. The shoes also feature Ball's '1' and '1 of 1' written several times throughout the shoe. The silver synthetic panels have a natural sheen to them, adding to the already busy ensemble of the pink panels. Finally, we see the 'Melo' logos along the back heel to finish the look. The PUMA MB.05 is expected to release sometime during the fall season of 2025. While there's no official word on a release date, LaMelo Ball teasing these to the public is a positive sign that they're ready to drop. The retail price is yet to be announced, but we can expect something in the ballpark of $120 given the previous MB.04 retails for $115. What are your thoughts on LaMelo Ball's newest sneakers?
