Netherlands will be first NATO ally to buy US weapons for Ukraine
The Netherlands is set to become the first NATO member to buy US weapons to be sent to Ukraine. Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans announced on Monday that his government will give. The €500 million will be allocated to a fund called the NATO Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative. Brekelmans was adamant that the funding would go toward Patriot missile defence systems. The Patriot is one of America's most advanced ground-to-air systems, primarily used against aircraft attacks, cruise and ballistic missiles. Following the announcement from the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway confirmed they would give $US500 million to the Ukrainian military aid fund. The US President Donald Trump will have his special envoy in Russia for talks after he imposed a 10-day deadline for the country to agree to the ceasefire. Witkoff is expected to visit Moscow on Wednesday, with the deadline set for August 8.

Scandinavian NATO members to provide $500 mn for Ukraine
DPA Malmö The Scandinavian NATO countries Sweden, Denmark and Norway are providing a total of more than $500 million for an initiative to speed up arms deliveries from the United States to Ukraine. Sweden is contributing $275 million to the Prioritized Ukraine Requirement List (PURL) initiative coordinated by NATO, with Denmark pledging 580 million Danish kroner ($90 million) and Norway 1.5 billion Norwegian kroner ($146 million), the governments of the three countries announced on Tuesday. As part of the initiative, the participating countries will purchase defence equipment from the United States and then make it available to Ukraine so that it can defend itself against the ongoing Russian invasion. The Scandinavian package includes missiles for Patriot air defence systems, Sweden's Defence Minister Pål Jonson told a press conference in Stockholm. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte thanked the three countries for their contribution. The funding ensures the delivery of life-saving equipment and essential goods to the front line, strengthening Ukraine's position and helping it to fend off aggression while striving for lasting peace, Rutte said in a post on X. The Scandinavian countries have been among the largest donors to Ukraine since the outbreak of the Russian war in Ukraine almost three and a half years ago. The Netherlands had already announced a similar package worth around $500 million as part of PURL on Monday.
