Cavaliers Make Coaching Announcement on Tuesday

The Cleveland Cavaliers received some tremendous news ahead of Tuesday's Game 5 matchup against the Indiana Pacers. This comes in the form of Donovan Mitchell overcoming the ankle injury that forced him to exit their Game 4 loss on Sunday, allowing him to suit up for Tuesday's do-or-die clash. Mitchell might not be 100% at this point, but the fact that the Cavs get their best player back on the court for Game 5 is an undeniably significant development for them and their hopes to extend this second-round NBA playoffs series. Advertisement That wasn't the only bit of good news the Cavs received before the game. The team took to social media before tip-off to make a big announcement about head coach Kenny Atkinson. "Kenny Atkinson has won the 2024-25 Rudy Tomjanovich Award, which honors an NBA coach for his cooperation with the media and fans, as well as his excellence on the court!" the Cavs posted on X. "This season, Atkinson guided the Cavaliers to a 64-18 record, the best in the Eastern Conference, and was consistently thoughtful and engaging with the media." This is the first time Atkinson has won this award, which is given by the Professional Basketball Writers Association (PBWA). Atkinson succeeds Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who bagged the title last season. Advertisement Atkinson has achieved this honor in his first year with the Cavs. He spent the last three seasons with the Warriors as an assistant on Kerr's coaching staff. Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson reacts in the first quarter against the Indiana Credit: David Richard-Imagn Images 'Kenny has always brought great candor, humility and a sense of humor to the job, and to his regular sessions with the media,' said PBWA president Howard Beck, via 'He's always eager to explain the nuances of the game and to discuss the bigger issues across the league.' Atkinson has a daunting task ahead of him on Tuesday night as he looks to lead the Cavs to a home win at Rocket Arena. Down 3-1 in the series, Cleveland has no other choice but to secure a victory in Game 5 in order to stave off elimination. NBA Legend Isiah Thomas Makes Strong Caitlin Clark Statement

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is coming off a standout rookie season, where she averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game. She also took home Rookie of the Year honors, earned a spot on the All-WNBA First Team, and was named an All-Star. But beyond the accolades, it's how she plays that truly sets her apart. Clark has brought a level of shooting to the women's game that few have ever seen. Advertisement In college, she shattered the Division I record for career three-pointers with 548. In the WNBA, she became the Fever's all-time single-season leader in made threes, was the fastest player in league history to hit 100 (34 games), and broke the rookie single-season record for most three-pointers made. Clark's ability to control the tempo, space the floor and get her teammates involved are also strengths of hers. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22)Jeffrey Becker After Tuesday night's NBA playoff game between the Indiana Pacers and the Cleveland Cavaliers, NBA legend Isiah Thomas said on NBA TV's "GameTime" that Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton has been playing like Clark lately. Advertisement "His intellect for the game is on another level," Thomas said of Haliburton. "At the start of the game, when he walked in, I said, 'He's walking in like Caitlin Clark.' Right? Now, real talk, right? The way he played the game tonight, this is a Caitlin Clark-type of game — spreading the floor, right? He knocked down the 3, he kept the pace, and not only did he keep the pace, he controlled the tempo, he got everybody involved... he had the floor spread out, you know, he's shooting it from way, way, way, way, way, way, way, waaaay out there…" Thomas went on to say that Haliburton likely picked up parts of his game from watching Clark, just as all players do when they watch others. That wouldn't be a surprise, as Clark and Haliburton have formed a friendship since her arrival in Indiana and often show support by attending each other's games. "I say this in all sincerity," Thomas added. "We all steal a little from each other when we play against each other, when we watch somebody play, right? … I think Haliburton watching Caitlin, and their relationship, you know being fans of each other, I see a lot of her game in his game, right now.' In Game 5 of the Pacers-Cavaliers series, Haliburton shot 6-of-10 from three and finished with 31 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Anthony Davis Reacts to NBA Draft Lottery After Mavericks Move

The Dallas Mavericks came into Monday's NBA draft lottery with very slim odds of winning the No. 1 overall pick. However, they walked away from it with the top pick, which means they will have the right to take Duke phenom Cooper Flagg in next month's draft. It was a big piece of serendipity for a franchise that has been beleaguered ever since jettisoning generational superstar Luka Doncic in early February and suffering several injuries to key players afterward. Advertisement Dallas didn't even reach the playoffs this season, and with star guard Kyrie Irving expected to miss a good chunk of next season with a torn ACL, it badly needed some good fortune. Superstar big man Anthony Davis, the main chip Dallas got back in the Doncic deal, reacted on social media to his team winning the No. 1 pick. Anthony Davis, Instagram Davis was one Mavericks player who suffered an injury shortly after the Doncic trade. In his first game with the team, he sustained an adductor strain, which forced him to miss several weeks of action. Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis. © Jerome Miron-Imagn Images Some felt the Mavericks would be a dark horse team in the Western Conference after essentially swapping Doncic for Davis. Now, assuming they do indeed take Flagg in the draft, they could indeed become a dark horse team next season, even if Irving misses most of the season. Advertisement Flagg, who averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks a game this past season for Duke, is a dynamic 6-foot-9 forward who can do it all. He has been compared by some to Scottie Pippen, the Hall of Fame Chicago Bulls forward from the 1990s. Related: NBA Facing Major Backlash for Decision in Pacers-Cavaliers Game

Cavaliers Make Troubling Donovan Mitchell Announcement After Injury in Game 4

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had to battle through multiple injuries throughout their NBA playoff run. In their second-round series against the Indiana Pacers, key players such as Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and De'Andre Hunter have already missed multiple games. At this point, however, the Cavs appear to be facing their biggest injury dilemma yet, following an unfortunate turn of events in Game 4 on Sunday. Advertisement Donovan Mitchell was not able to finish the first half after suffering a concerning injury. He did not come out with the team following the halftime break, which added more concern to his status. Unfortunately, the Cavs have now announced that Mitchell will not be able to return to the contest after being diagnosed with a left ankle injury. Mitchell finished the game with 12 points on 3-of-11 shooting, one rebound, one steal and a block in 20 minutes of action. This is an undeniably tough blow for the Cavs, who could now be without their best player moving forward. Mitchell will surely undergo tests after this game, and the results of the same should determine his availability for Game 5 on Tuesday. As of writing, the Pacers are up 129-104 with a few minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Advertisement The silver lining for the Cavs here is that Game 5 shifts to Cleveland, which will give them a home-court advantage in the game. Nevertheless, not having Mitchell available for that one will be a huge blow for the Cavs and their title aspirations this season. Related: NBA Facing Major Accusation During Pacers-Cavaliers Game 4
