NDP 2025: Flying of kites, drones not allowed in some areas on selected dates

SINGAPORE: The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on Friday (Jun 6) said that it will be establishing temporary restricted areas over some parts of Singapore on selected days in June, July, and August. The temporary restricted areas help ensure the safety of the public and low-flying aircraft involved in aerial activities in preparation for the National Day Parade, CAAS and the parade's executive committee said in a joint news release. These areas will encompass the Padang and other parts of Singapore, extending from ground level to 2,500 feet above mean sea level. "Due to flight operational and safety requirements, the temporary restricted areas will cover most of Singapore on Saturdays and National Day," the authorities said. The restrictions will be in effect on several dates between Jun 9 and Aug 9. In the event of poor weather conditions on any of the planned dates, the reserve date of Aug 16 may also be used. "During the stated dates and times, the conduct of all aerial activities, including kite-flying, hoisting of captive balloons and flying of unmanned aircraft such as drones into and within the temporary restricted areas, is strictly prohibited, unless the required permits have been obtained from the CAAS," the authorities said. Carrying out aerial and unmanned aircraft activities in the temporary restricted areas without the required permits from CAAS is an offence. Under the Air Navigation Order, which covers aerial activities, first-time offenders may be fined up to S$20,000. Repeat offenders may be fined up to S$40,000, jailed up to 15 months, or both. Under the Air Navigation (101 – Unmanned Aircraft Operations) Regulations 2019, which covers unmanned aircraft activities, first-time offenders may be fined up to S$50,000, jailed up to two years, or both. Repeat offenders may be fined up to S$100,000, jailed for up to five years, or both. Other than the temporary restricted areas, existing restrictions on the conduct of aerial and unmanned aircraft activities within 5km of aerodromes, danger areas, prohibited areas, restricted areas, and protected areas remain in force. "Members of the public are reminded to check the website or the OneMap app for information on areas where the conduct of aerial activities is prohibited or requires a permit", said CAAS.

NDP 2025 ticket applications to open on May 28

SINGAPORE: People who want to attend this year's National Day Parade (NDP) or either of the two preview shows at the Padang can apply for tickets when applications open at noon on Wednesday (May 28). Singapore citizens and permanent residents can apply for two, four or six tickets for the parade on Aug 9, which marks Singapore's 60th birthday. The preview shows are on Jul 26 and Aug 2. Tickets are not allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, and an electronic balloting system will determine successful applicants, the NDP 2025 executive committee said on Monday. Each applicant will be entitled to one ballot chance, and each ticket admits one spectator only. All children, including infants carried in arms, must hold a valid ticket for admission to the show. Ticket applications will open until noon on Jun 9. HOW TO APPLY? To apply for tickets, head to the NDP website or scan a QR code to access the application form. Applicants would then need to log in with their Singpass account, where key personal information such as their name, NRIC and contact number will be filled in automatically. If applying on behalf of someone, the Singpass user would need to fill in that person's particulars. Those without Singpass accounts are advised to register for one, seek help from a family member or someone they trust, or visit ServiceSG Centres for assistance to set up an account. 'This will be the only modality and form of NDP 2025 ticket application. Do not fill out any forms from unverified links and sources to prevent fraudulent attempts to obtain personal information,' organisers said. Successful applicants will be notified via SMS and email from Jun 20 to 25 via the mobile number and email address provided during the application. SMS and email notifications will only be sent by or info [at] Any SMS and emails from other sources should be treated as potential scams or phishing attempts. All types of tickets are strictly not for sale, and action will be taken against personnel who partake in ticket scalping and fraudulent activities. In celebration of Singapore's 60th year of independence, the National Day Parade will include an aerial tribute by the Republic of Singapore Air Force, as well as an inaugural Jump of Unity featuring parachutists from the Red Lions and the Republic of Singapore Navy's naval divers. The Mobile Column will make a return to the Padang for the first time since 2019, showcasing air, land and maritime assets from the Singapore Armed Forces, Home Team and Maritime Port Authority of Singapore. For the first time, an aerial flypast over the Padang and a maritime display at the bay will be integrated. The theme for this year's celebration, 'Majulah Singapura', calls on Singaporeans to reflect on their collective achievements while inspiring them to face future challenges and uncertainties with optimism and resilience.

NDP 2025: Red Lions, naval divers to parachute into Padang, Marina Bay in SG60 tribute

SINGAPORE: In celebration of Singapore's 60th birthday, the Red Lions and naval divers will parachute onto the Padang and into Marina Bay at this year's National Day Parade (NDP). The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will also stage a special aerial tribute, the NDP 2025 executive committee announced on Monday (May 26). With this year's NDP show expanding from Padang to the Marina Bay area, the Red Lions will land at the Padang while the Republic of Singapore Navy's divers will parachute into the water at Marina Bay in a coordinated aerial display called a Jump of Unity. Performances at the Padang will also be combined with building light projections and fireworks across the city skyline, along with water floats and a new floating stage for performers. 'NDP 2025 aims to deliver an immersive experience for all live audiences, whether they are at the Padang or the Bay,' organisers said on Monday. The parade and ceremony segment will feature the largest number of contingents to date, alongside crowd favourites such as the state flag flypast, salute to the nation and the presidential gun salute. Returning to the Padang for the first time since 2019, the mobile column will showcase air, land and maritime assets from the Singapore Armed Forces, Home Team and Maritime Port Authority of Singapore. There will also be an aerial flypast over the Padang and a maritime display at the Bay. The show will unfold in four acts inspired by the National Anthem, featuring local artistes and performers from various organisations. "MAJULAH SINGAPURA" This year's theme, 'Majulah Singapura', calls on Singaporeans to reflect on six decades of nationhood while looking ahead with optimism and resilience, the NDP 2025 executive committee said in a fact sheet. Organisers said the theme highlights the values of trust, inclusivity and mutual support, encouraging all citizens to play their part in Singapore's ongoing journey. The logo for NDP 2025 features a fusion of "60" and GO', serving as a rallying call for Singaporeans to move forward together. Five shooting stars in the design symbolise the nation's founding ideals: democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality. The official NDP theme song, Here We Are, is co-written by Charlie Lim and Chok Kerong, and produced by Dr Sydney Tan. It is performed by Charlie Lim, Kit Chan and The Island Voices. CELEBRATIONS ACROSS THE ISLAND Those without parade tickets can also join in the festivities. On Aug 9, the Marina Bay area will host interactive booths, carnival games and activities throughout the day. During the parade, large LED screens and speakers will broadcast the show live across the Bay. Five partner-led celebration sites in and around Marina Bay will also provide additional experiences for the public, organisers added. On Aug 10, five heartland locations will host live performances, fireworks and activities, with the mobile column making appearances across the island. Details on ticket applications for the parade will be released soon. SINGAPOREANS OVERSEAS Speaking to members of the media on Monday, Colonel Chong Shi Hao, chairman of the NDP 2025 executive committee, said the team is working with overseas missions and through the Singapore Global Network to support Singaporeans overseas to celebrate National Day. 'It's still very much a work in progress. I think we are trying to reach out to our partner agencies to gather as many Singaporeans in their respective locations to celebrate wherever they are, even if they are not in Singapore,' he said. When asked about the budget for this year's celebrations, Col Chong said that it is "comparable with past years". "I think what's important is that, as a committee, every year, we strive to be as prudent in the use of our resources, in the use of the budget, while at the same time trying to achieve our outcomes of uniting Singaporeans and bringing them together."

Out-of-control bus careens down hill and overturns, killing 12

A bus crash in Indonesia 's West Sumatra province has claimed the lives of at least 12 people, including two children, and injured 23 others. The inter-province bus, carrying 34 passengers, was en route to Jakarta from Medan in North Sumatra when the tragedy occurred on Tuesday. According to Reza Chairul Akbar Sidiq, the director of West Sumatra traffic police, the bus apparently experienced brake failure while navigating a downhill road near a bus terminal in Padang city. Survivors recounted the driver's struggle to control the vehicle as it sped down a series of steep hills after the brakes malfunctioned. The bus ultimately overturned, trapping many of the victims underneath. Emergency services transported the deceased and injured to two nearby hospitals. Police are currently investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash. Thirteen of the injured were treated for serious injuries, Mr Sidiq said. The driver was among those in critical condition. Local television footage showed the mangled bus on its side, surrounded by rescuers from the National Search and Rescue Agency, police and passersby as ambulances evacuated the injured victims and the dead. Road crashes are common in Indonesia because of poor safety standards and infrastructure. In 2024, a bus carrying 61 students and teachers returning from an outing to a high school in Depok, just outside Jakarta, slammed into cars and motorbikes after its brakes failed, killing 11 students and injuring dozens of others. In 2023, a tourist bus with an apparently drowsy driver slammed into a billboard on a highway in East Java, killing at least 14 people and injuring 19 others.
