Buying a cheap, used Mitsubishi Pajero unseen: how bad could it really be?
Ricci's Garage Spoiler: it bad. Let's all play Ricci's Garage Bingo! Skip 3 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Renowned photographer Mark has been working with Top Gear for many, many years. When not taking photos he's buying inappropriate cars. Here he shares his addiction with the world Welcome everyone to round 57 of Ricci's Garage Bingo, and for those first time players this might be a little different to the bingo you're familiar with. You won't find any Dryrobe garms here nor will you be listening to Jess Glynne on repeat for three hours. Instead, you'll witness a man trying to justify his automotive related horrors, repeating the same mistakes in the hope the end result is slightly different. Plot twist: the end result is always the same. Advertisement - Page continues below If you look at this month's card you'll see Ricci's Garage Bingo is littered with many familiar topics. Top left, we have 'the GT-R needs another engine' followed by 'the M6 refresh is about to bankrupt me'. In the top right, you'll see 'more off road wheels purchased' with the classic 'I've bought a car unseen and it's crap' under it. For the bottom row, we have 'sending money abroad and hoping it's not a scam' joined by 'the 911 has a new warning light'. In the middle, you'll see the red bonus ball that simply reads 'Pajero'. That's because this month's winning card really is a greatest hits of all the above. Not only have I bought another Mitsubishi Pajero, but I bought it completely unseen. You might like This MkI three door Pajero (Shogun) was for sale in the UK, but it was priced very cheaply on the UK MkI Pajero Owners' Club Facebook group. Given how popular these cars are in extra curricular activities like cash machine theft and among those with no fixed postal address, a cheap MkI is the equivalent of wearing a meat bikini and diving into the Amazon river. 'Someone is coming around to look at it this afternoon unfortunately,' the seller told me after I'd asked to buy it. Naturally, this could not go unpunished, so minutes later I'd transferred him the money allowing me to feel smug that I'd snagged a bargain. And then it turned up. Advertisement - Page continues below Its 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine runs, but rather than pistons it's powered by an improv jazz drummer who seems to be constantly falling down a flight of stairs. The paint has been reapplied using a paint roller. Either that, or an Old English sheepdog has bathed in green paint before being allowed to roll over every panel. The term 'prep' may have been lost at this stage too – no masking or sanding was used to protect parts that didn't need paint. Like the headlights. But at least they exist, which is more than can be said for various rubber trim pieces around the windows. Also, the inside now smells so strong even someone with a penchant for Chinese wet markets might consider it a bit of a hazard. And do you know what the worst thing is? I don't care about any of that, because I am once again utterly in love with a horrid excuse of a Pajero. One that somehow still has an MOT certificate, which must have been done via wifi in a previous life. I can't even begin to tell you what the plans are for it – my Pajero Evo has a blown engine and my other MkI needs more welding. What's most annoying is the fact I now need to find another MkI Pajero with a bubble shape roof to replace it. But we'll save that adventure for a future game of Ricci's Garage Bingo. Opel Grandland review: Grand by name but is it more than grand by nature?
Opel's new family SUV is sharp and well-proportioned, with an impressive interior and a composed driving feel — so is it better than its name suggests? In Ireland, 'grand' is a masterclass in understatement. It's our go-to response to whatever the question and can mean anything from winning the Lotto to burying a family pet. Either way, 'grand' is what we say when things are fine, manageable, or too complicated to explain. So when Opel named its family SUV the Grandland, my initial reaction was, 'Is it merely passable? Politely forgettable? Or the automotive equivalent of 'it'll do'?' To be fair, naming cars is a global branding minefield. Some get it just right, but for every Golf or Focus, there's a Pajero (awkward in Spanish) or the ill-advised Ford Probe. Brands try everything — mythology (Yaris), florals (Corolla), or the add-an-'o' trick (Terrano, Murano, Vivaro, Bolero). Off-roaders get action-hero names like Pathfinder, because you never know what you'll meet on the school run. Then there are automotive gems like the Renault Wind and VW Thing, proving you can get it very wrong.

‘Shah Rukh Khan used to drive me to the set,' recalls Veerendra Saxena: ‘He was a well-behaved boy'
Everyone has a story about working with Shah Rukh Khan. In a recent interview, actor Veerendra Saxena, who shared screen space with SRK in Dil Dariya and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, spoke about their time together before Shah Rukh became the biggest star in the country. Veerendra first worked with Shah Rukh Khan in the show Dil Dariya, where he played the actor's father. During an appearance on the Friday Talkies podcast, he recalled their time together and said he considered Shah Rukh like a son. He said, 'You could say that Shah Rukh mere ghar ke bacche ki tarah tha (he was like my own kid). His first role was alongside me, Dil Dariya, in which I played the role of his father. He was a well-behaved boy, and he used to pick me up from my house while on his way to the set.' The actor added that even Hema Malini was a big fan of the show and used to watch it with Dharmendra. ALSO READ | 'Shah Rukh Khan handed the keys to his Pajero as soon as I asked,' recalls Tiku Talsania: 'He won't hesitate to do anything for you' Veerendra Saxena also shared how the young Shah Rukh Khan took care of him during their shoot in Goa. 'I went to Goa for the first time, and I had no idea that Shah Rukh had gotten married until he introduced me to Gauri there. I congratulated him and started to leave because the bus for all the actors was leaving. He stopped me and said, 'Your scenes are with me. What will you do on the set right now? He offered me to go with him later in the car that was supposed to pick him up.' The actor added that SRK even recommended dishes and drinks for him to try while waiting. 'He told the director I would be coming with him, then asked me to visit a nearby restaurant to try the fish and local alcohol,' Saxena recalled. He concluded his anecdote by saying that although they don't meet or talk often, Shah Rukh still holds him in great respect, and he is proud to see all that Shah Rukh has achieved.

Updated Mitsubishi Pajero Sport offers new look, extra features
Mitsubishi South Africa on Wednesday unveiled its refreshed Pajero Sport SUV offering enhanced exterior design, updated technology and a raft of additional safety features. Standout improvements include a new 'dynamic shield' front grille, redesigned front and rear under garnishes and a fresh set of 18" alloy wheels. Cabin improvements come in the shape of an 8" digital instrument cluster, redesigned multifunction steering wheel and a new all-black ceiling headliner for an overall 'more premium cabin aesthetic'. As per the outgoing model, specification levels remain generous on the facelifted Pajero with black leather seats, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, sunroof, electronic tailgate, keyless entry and cruise control all fitted as standard. There's also an 8" touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety has been beefed-up with the addition of Mitsubishi's ultrasonic mis-acceleration mitigation system that ensures added safety in tight spaces by preventing accidental acceleration at low speeds. A handy 360° parking camera also forms part of the package. As before, all Pajero Sport models are powered by a 2.4 l four-cylinder turbodiesel engine making 133kW and 430Nm of torque. It's meshed to an eight-speed automatic gearbox that distributes power to the rear axle on the 4x2 derivative and all four wheels on the 4x4. The latter incorporates Mitsubishi's Super Select 4WD-II system with four selectable off-road functions: 2H, 4H, 4HLc (4WD High range with centre diff locked) and 4LLc (4WD low range with centre differential locked). For added capability, selectable Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand or Rock modes tailor engine output, transmission settings and braking according to the conditions underfoot, reinforcing the model's strong off-road pedigree.

Tiku Talsania recalls Shah Rukh Khan's early days: ‘He gave me his Pajero keys without hesitation, still talks about me'
Actor Tiku Talsania , who has shared screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in films like Oh Darling Yeh Hai India and Devdas , recently opened up about SRK's humility and dedication, revealing that the superstar's success never changed the grounded person he always was. Shah Rukh Khan hasn't changed despite massive stardom In an interview with Lallantop Cinema, Tiku was asked if Shah Rukh's attitude shifted after he became one of Bollywood's biggest stars. The veteran actor was quick to respond, 'Not at all.' He went on to say that even today, Shah Rukh greets him the same way he did years ago. Recalling a recent moment, Tiku shared that his daughter, actor Shikha Talsania , met SRK and came back telling him, 'Papa, we spoke for 10 minutes and for 7 minutes, he only spoke about you.' Tiku called it a deeply touching gesture that he still cherishes. Tiku Talsania recalls driving SRK's red Pajero during Oh Darling Yeh Hai India shoot Talsania also reminisced about a fond memory from the set of Oh Darling Yeh Hai India, when Shah Rukh had just purchased a red Pajero, considered a luxury car at the time. Tiku, curious to experience it, asked if he could take it for a spin. 'I asked him, 'Sir, ek round maru kya?' and he immediately said, 'Le jaa chabi',' he recalled with a smile. Tiku said it perfectly captured Shah Rukh's generosity and warmth: 'He is that kind of man. He has worked hard to make Mannat and reach where he is today.' The actor also revealed an instance from the set of Devdas, where he played Dharamdas, the loyal driver to Shah Rukh's titular character. During an emotionally charged scene, where Devdas mourns the death of his father, Tiku noticed SRK drinking Old Monk rum on set. Curious, he asked why. Shah Rukh explained that he wanted the alcohol to 'show in his eyes.' Tiku was stunned by the level of dedication. 'He must have had at least a quarter of a bottle. It was so hot, he was sweating—but he gave that scene everything,' he said, admiring Shah Rukh's commitment to his craft.
