Parents of Declan Phillips, 14, fatally struck by car in Brisbane break silence after tragic incident involving teen driver
The parents of a 14-year-old boy who died after being struck by a car in Queensland have spoken publicly following the tragic incident, sharing their 'unbearable' pain. Wynnum State High School student Declan Phillips was walking to school on Wednesday when he was hit by Pajero, with emergency services rushing to the scene about 8.20am. Declan sadly died at the scene of the crash on Berrima St in Wynnum, which was about one kilometre away from the school. The 17-year-old driver, was uninjured in the incident along with a 41-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy who were passengers. The Courier Mail reports the 14-year-old's parents, Lily and and Daniel Phillips, have since released a statement expressing their gratitude to the first responders who attended the crash and sympathising with the teen driver and their family. 'The pain we are feeling is unbearable but we don't know how much worse it would be without the support we have had,' their statement on Friday read. 'We're thankful for all of our family and friends who have surrounded us in love at this time." The parents shared what their son loved to do outside of school and the communities he had been a part of, including playing soccer and his involvement in Scouts. 'We have seen all the beautiful flowers at the roundabout where Declan passed. We would like to have a permanent memorial for Declan placed at the tree at some time,' they said. 'We feel for the driver and his family, he is only a little older than Declan. Declan was looking forward to learning to drive too. What happened to you both could have happened to anyone.' A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Declan's family with burial and funeral costs, and the fundraiser has already raised over $66,000. A family friend said they are also hoping to use any surplus funds to create a public plaque in memory of the 14-year-old. 'Declan had such a promising, bright future,' the family friend wrote on the GoFundMe page. 'He had already started saving towards his first car. He was proud of his achievements and his friends and family were proud of him." In a letter to parents seen by The Courier Mail, Wynnum State High School Principal Sandra Quinn shared the news ''with a heavy heart'' of the tragic passing of a student. 'As a tight-knit school community, we share our shock and sadness at the enormity of this situation,' the principal said. Police are investigating Wednesday's incident.

All-new Mitsubishi Pajero caught testing overseas: Can it challenge the Toyota Fortuner?
The next generation of the Mitsubishi Pajero has been spotted testing in Southern Europe. (autoevolution) Notify me The Mitsubishi Pajero was one of the most iconic nameplates in the full-size SUV space, and it appears to be making a comeback after being discontinued for nearly half a decade. A heavily camouflaged test mule has been spotted on the roads in Southern Europe, and it is expected to bring back the moniker in a revamped package with an updated design, fresh interiors, and several powertrain options. Mitsubishi introduced the Pajero to the Indian market around 2002 as part of a joint venture with Hindustan Motors, which was responsible for its assembly on our shores. In 2012, the joint venture brought in the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, a mid-size version of the SUV. Despite its popularity among enthusiasts, Mitsubishi discontinued the ladder-frame SUV in India in 2020 due to increasingly stringent emissions regulations. In 2021, the Pajero was taken off the global market altogether. The test mule seems to be nearly production-ready, and the final model is expected to debut before the end of 2025. Mitsubishi Pajero: Design The next-gen Pajero retains the characteristic boxy profile with a tall stance and an upright front end. The next-gen Pajero retains its boxy silhouette from the previous models while carrying forward a range of exterior design tweaks. The latest spy shots showcase a tall stance with an upright front end that features vertically stacked LED DRLs flanking a wide grille. The SUV further features a large skid plate, a clamshell bonnet design, and updated bumpers. The new Pajero will ride on a revamped set of alloys, which are likely to be 19-inch or 20-inch options. The rear end is reminiscent of the Nissan Patrol with a slim, rectangular rear window, connected LED taillights, and an oversized skid plate that doubles up as the rear diffuser. Here's all you should know… Mitsubishi Pajero: Interior The interior details have not been revealed yet, but the Pajero is expected to bring a modern, updated cabin with new upholstery and a broad range of creature comforts. Features may include ventilated seats, a larger infotainment and gauge cluster setup. Mitsubishi is additionally expected to equip the upcoming SUV with an ADAS suite of safety features. Mitsubishi Pajero: Engine and performance Mitsubishi may offer the upcoming Pajero with a range of engine options, including turbo-diesel and plug-in hybrid units. The choice of powertrain offered within the next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero may likely come down to the SUV's platform. If it returns in its ladder-frame guise, it is likely to be built on the Mitsubishi Triton's chassis and will carry the 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine that makes up to 201 bhp. Few reports suggest that the upcoming Pajero may be based on the Outlander's CMF-C/D monocoque architecture. In this case, the SUV is likely to be equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, delivering up to 302 bhp. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2025, Best SUVs in India. Tributes pour in for 14-year-old student fatally struck by car while walking to school in Wynnum, Queensland
A Brisbane community is in mourning following the death of promising 14-year-old student Declan Phillips who was killed on his way to school this week. A Pajero struck the walking teenager about 8.20am on Berrima St in Wynnum on Wednesday, and he sadly died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was a 17-year-old male, and he was with two passengers at the time - a 41-year-old female and a 16-year-old male. All three left the crash without any physical injuries and the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The family of the young boy has received love and support in droves in the wake of the tragic incident. More than $46,000 has already been raised on a GoFundMe page dedicated to Declan less than 24 hours after the fundraiser was created, including one generous donor who put forward $8000. A family friend said the money would go directly to Declan's family to "help with burial and funeral costs" while they are also hoping to use any surplus funds to create a public plaque in memory of the 14-year-old. 'Declan had such a promising, bright future,' the family friend wrote on the GoFundMe page. 'He had already started saving towards his first car. He was proud of his achievements and his friends and family were proud of him. 'His chair which normally holds his school bag sits empty in the dining room. His hobbies, toys and iPad remain untouched. His room is quiet and still.' She also said Declan was "skilled and talented in a wide array of areas" including running, maths, woodwork and engineering and that he already had big plans for his future. 'He loved camping, collecting model cars, Lego engineering and was working on his fitness goals – training and eating healthily and methodically," she said. 'He had plans to be a tradie, live in the countryside and do up cars." Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the area around the time of the crash, to come forward.

The Mitsubishi Destination Talks Tough, But Skips One Key Feature
Mitsubishi has officially introduced the Mitsubishi Destination, a mid-size SUV with three-row seating, designed specifically for Southeast Asian markets. While early speculation hinted at a spiritual successor to the legendary Pajero, Mitsubishi clarified that this new model follows a different path. Instead of reviving a nameplate from the past, the brand has created a family-oriented SUV tailored to meet modern demands across countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand. Designed for Utility, Not Heritage At first glance, the Mitsubishi Destination exudes toughness, reminiscent of off-road-ready vehicles. But underneath its bold design lies a front-wheel-drive platform—the same one used by the compact Mitsubishi X-Force. Powering the vehicle is a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivering around 161 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT transmission. Mitsubishi's strategy clearly focuses on offering the visual appeal of a rugged SUV without the added complexity or cost of a full off-roader. Adventure-Ready With Practical Driving Modes Despite its urban platform, the Destination doesn't shy away from adventure. Mitsubishi equips the SUV with a well-tuned suspension system and respectable ground clearance. The vehicle features five selectable drive modes—Normal, Wet, Gravel, Mud, and Smart Curve—enabling it to adapt to varying terrains and road conditions. These capabilities align well with the needs of active families in emerging markets, offering confidence and comfort without requiring premium components. Modern Styling With Concept-Car Influence The vehicle's exterior borrows cues from the Mitsubishi DST concept unveiled at the Philippines Auto Show in 2024. Notable features include a wide 'Dynamic Shield' grille, signature T-shaped LED headlights, bold side lines, and available 18-inch wheels. Compared to the concept, the production model softens some details with traditional door handles and standard side mirrors, signaling a more realistic approach to cost and practicality. An Affordable, Three-Row Option for Families First launched in Indonesia and set to roll out across Asia in fiscal year 2025, the Destination aims to provide families with a versatile and affordable SUV. By offering three-row seating in a mid-size package, it fills a gap between compact crossovers and pricier models like the Pajero Sport or imported SUVs. Not a Pajero Replacement—but a Smart Strategy While the Destination may channel some of the Pajero's spirit, it doesn't share its mechanical DNA. Instead, it stands as a product engineered to satisfy specific regional needs—combining bold aesthetics, everyday practicality, and affordability. It's Mitsubishi's answer to the evolving tastes of Southeast Asian buyers and a strategic step to reestablish its relevance in the competitive family SUV segment. Gallery:
