Operation Sindoor draws 'new red line' against terror, hopes adversary understands: CDS Chauhan

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan on Saturday described India's Operation Sindoor as setting a 'new red line' of zero tolerance for terrorism and expressed hope that the military action has taught 'some lessons for our adversary.' read more Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan on Saturday said India's Operation Sindoor has drawn a 'new red line' of intolerance against terror, and expressed hope that the military action has brought 'some lessons for our adversary also'. In response to queries related to the recent operation and the idea of 'strategic stability' in India-Pakistan ties, during an event held here under the Shangri-La Dialogue, the CDS further said, it takes two hands to join to clap together, 'hopefully they understand this'. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Operation Sindoor was launched early on May 7 to destroy nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. All subsequent retaliations to Pakistani offensives were carried out under this operation. The four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan had brought the two nuclear-armed neighbours to the edge of a wider conflict. On a query on the lesson learned from the conflict, Gen Chauhan said India used indigenous systems and platforms from other countries as well during the operation. 'We were able to penetrate air defence as long as 300 km with pinpoint accuracy and targets, airfields and infrastructure, deep inside Pakistan. That indicates the functionality of the equipment,' he said. Gen Chauhan and several other defence chiefs or representatives from different countries delivered addresses during the seminar — 'Defence Innovation Solutions for Future Challenges' held as part of the Shangri-La Dialogue, a key summit of Asia.

Kangana Ranaut says Instagram influencer Sharmishta Panoli should be released immediately: ‘No need to bully or harass'

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has called for the immediate release of Instagram influencer Sharmishta Panoli, who was arrested by the Kolkata Police from Haryana's Gurugram on Friday night. Kangana took to her Instagram Stories on Saturday to state that she acknowledges the 'unpleasant' words that she used in the controversial video but that does not warrant her further harassment. (Also read: Instagram influencer Sharmishta Panoli arrested in Gurugram over post on Operation Sindoor) Taking to her Instagram Stories, Kangana wrote, 'I agree that Sharmistha used some unpleasant words for her expression but such words most youngsters use these days, she apologised for her statements and that should be enough, no need to bully or harass her further, she should be released immediately.' A student enrolled at Pune's Law University, Sharmishta Panoli made a controversial video on social media in which she criticised several Hindi film actors for not commenting on Operation Sindoor. Her post drew heavy backlash, following which Panoli deleted the video from her account and issued an apology. However, the Kolkata Police had already registered a complaint against her by that time. Legal notices were also issued and sent to her and her family members. On Friday night, she was arrested in Gurugram by Kolkata Police officials. Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated significantly following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people. The incident has sparked a diplomatic crisis. Earlier this month, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, a targeted strike mission to destroy terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. However, normalcy is gradually seeping in following the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. On the work front, Kangana was last seen in the biographical drama Emergency, which she also produced and directed.

Pak fired missiles, 200 drones towards Gujarat, amassed tanks, but could cause no harm: BSF

Pakistan fired missiles and 200 drones towards Gujarat during Operation Sindoor but failed to cause any harm to military installations, soldiers or civilians as every attack of the neighbouring nation was foiled by Indian forces, a senior Border Security Force officer said on Friday. Pakistan had even deployed tanks and heavy artillery at the border, said Inspector General Abhishek Pathak of BSF's Gujarat Frontier, who asserted everything was being analysed to "improve our response next time". The force is tasked with securing areas from Barmer in Rajasthan to Kutch district of Gujarat along the India-Pakistan border. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as retaliation to the horrific April 22 Pahalgam attack, resulting in decimation of terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir and Pakistan. The two nations agreed to cessation of hostilities on May 10. Addressing a press conference in Gandhinagar on the role of BSF during Operation Sindoor, Pathak said, "Of nearly 600 drones sent by Pakistan towards our border from Rajasthan to Kutch, some 40 per cent (200 drones) entered Gujarat. However, we foiled the attack with the help of the Army and Indian Air Force, as no damage was caused, neither to our forces nor to civilians. Some of these drones were shot down." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "We learnt that Pakistan had not only increased manpower along the border, it also deployed heavy artillery and tanks in forward areas. In view of this situation, BSF along with Army, Navy and Air Force completed its preparations and officials also visited border areas to brief the personnel and review the preparations," Pathak informed. Missiles were also fired towards Gujarat by Pakistan but no damage was caused on the ground, he added. Speaking about BSF's preparations, Pathak said Gujarat Frontier had deployed "high calibre weapons and surveillance equipment" at all the border posts after getting inputs about Pakistan army's mobilisation on the border. Live Events About the drone attacks by Pakistan, Pathak said the BSF as well as Army and other concerned departments are analysing them to improve the response for the future. "This is perhaps the first time when such a situation arose. There are many learnings for BSF, other forces and concerned departments. We are analysing these aspects to improve our response next time. There is always a scope for improvement in any system," Pathak asserted.

Kanpur node is key in UP Defence Corridor for indigenous manufacturing, says PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the Kanpur node of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor is crucial for indigenous manufacturing, weeks after defence minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a BrahMos manufacturing facility in Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor is an initiative by the Centre and the UP government to boost defence manufacturing capacity in the country's most populous state. It has six nodes – Aligarh, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot. Modi was speaking in Kanpur during the inauguration of projects worth ₹ 47,600 crore, including thermal power plants, rail over bridges, and a sewage treatment plant. Uttar Pradesh will lead India's journey to becoming a major defence exporter, said Modi, highlighting that indigenously manufactured weapons had played a crucial part during Operation Sindoor. Operation Sindoor was India's retaliatory attack against terrorist targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir on 7 May following the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals. 'Operation Sindoor showcased India's indigenous defense capabilities and the strength of Make in India to the world," said PM Modi. The prime minister said Uttar Pradesh would become a hub for defence equipment manufacturing. The production of AK-203 rifles had already started in Amethi, and defence minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a BrahMos manufacturing facility on 11 May this year. The BrahMos missile played a significant part during Operation Sindoor, said Modi. He inaugurated a 660 MW Panki Thermal Power Extension Project in Kanpur worth over ₹ 8,300 crore and three 660 MW units of Ghatampur Thermal Power Project worth over ₹ 9,330 crore, according to a press statement. Among the projects inaugurated were rail over bridges over Panki Power House Railway Crossing and over Panki Dham Crossing on Panki Road at Kalyanpur Panki Mandir in Kanpur to support the Panki Thermal Power Extension Project's logistics by facilitating coal and oil transport. PM Modi also said that two essential pillars for the state's industrial progress are self-sufficiency in the energy sector—ensuring a steady power supply—and strong infrastructure and connectivity. The Prime Minister also reiterated India's three new principles in its fight against terrorism. First, India will deliver a decisive response to every terrorist attack, he said, adding that the timing, method, and conditions of this response will be determined solely by the Indian armed forces. Second, India will no longer be intimidated by nuclear threats, nor will it make decisions based on such warnings, he said. Third, India will view both the masterminds of terrorism and the governments that shelter them in the same light. The distinction between Pakistan's state and non-state actors will no longer be accepted, he said.
