Media staff taken on tour of Klang Valley hospitals
Media representatives in IHH's 'Media Health Hunt Challenge'. FORTY media professionals from 20 leading publications were taken on a 'health hunt challenge' throughout the Klang Valley. IHH Healthcare Malaysia (IHH) hosted its inaugural event, a full-day, interactive journey across six of its hospitals – Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Pantai Hospital Ampang, Pantai Hospital Cheras, Pantai Hospital Klang, Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Prince Court Medical Centre. Through this experience, media representatives gained insight into how IHH delivers personalised care. At every hospital, media representatives witnessed the level of care through specialists, cutting-edge technologies and a focus on treatment delivery. 'We wanted our media partners to not only explore the selected services at each hospital, but to also truly experience what sets IHH Healthcare Malaysia apart,' said IHH regional chief executive officer Erica Lam. 'From our tertiary hospitals to community-focused ones, we operate as a connected network that enables seamless, end-to-end care across our facilities. 'Through our structured internal-referral system, patients are guided to the right specialist, ensuring timely, effective and coordinated treatment,' Lam added. The Health Hunt was designed as an engaging, hands-on experience. Participants solved location-based clues, explored core specialities and services at each hospital, and interacted with clinical teams – thus gaining a closer look at the distinctive capabilities that define each facility. At each stop, participants had the opportunity to explore a selection of services offered by the respective hospitals. The flag-off took place at Prince Court Medical Centre, which showcased advanced medical services, including the Accident & Emergency department featuring Malaysia's first electric motorcycle ambulance. Participants explored services at the new Orthopaedic Clinic and experienced the state-of-the-art hydrotherapy pool for enhanced rehabilitation. They also visited the brand-new Smart Paediatrics Ward, powered by voice-command technology and designed for optimal comfort for young patients and their families. Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur highlighted its strength in specialised care, including oncology and cardiology services. Participants also experienced the hospital's advanced robotic-assisted technologies, such as Mako SmartRobotics for precision joint surgery and the EksoNR robotic exoskeleton – a state-of-the-art wearable device that supports stroke survivors and individuals with neurological conditions on their recovery journey. Pantai Hospital Klang shared insights into its Cardiac Catheterisation Lab and interventional cardiology services, where time-sensitive procedures play a crucial role in managing cardiac emergencies. Pantai Hospital Cheras showcased its Accident & Emergency services, highlighting processes in place to swiftly assess, prioritise and manage patients of all ages during emergencies. Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur featured its Cancer Centre housing the Gamma Knife radiosurgery – a non-invasive treatment for brain conditions, as well as the Hand and Upper Limb Centre which is home to six specialists. The media tour concluded with a stop at the Breast Care Centre, renowned for its comprehensive one-stop services.

Personalised treatment plans: Tailored care leveraging cath lab innovations Precision is prioritised at Pantai Hospitals, where treatment is tailored to each patient's specific condition and risk factors. Their state-of-the-art catheterisation labs (cath labs) serve as the hub for minimally invasive procedures that offer faster recovery time and reduced risks. Some of the key interventions include the insertion of temporary or permanent pacemakers for patients with irregular heart rhythms, as well as angioplasty and stent placement to treat coronary artery disease. Angiograms, a key diagnostic tool, are also performed in the cath lab to assess blood flow in the coronary arteries, helping cardiologists determine the extent of blockages and guide treatment decisions. For patients requiring aortic valve replacements but who are deemed high risk for traditional surgery, the cath lab offers transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). This procedure utilises advanced imaging and technology to ensure precision and safety, significantly improving patient outcomes with minimal recovery time. For more advanced cases, robotic-assisted surgeries provide unparalleled precision, allowing for greater success in even the most complex procedures. The focus is on delivering high-quality care that supports patient well-being, ensuring effective care with shorter recovery time and fewer complications. Comprehensive rehabilitation: Supporting long-term recovery Recovery extends beyond treatment and at Pantai Hospitals, patients receive customised rehabilitation programmes designed to help them regain strength, improve heart function and reduce the risk of future complications through a multidisciplinary approach. Personalised exercise routines, nutritional guidance and continuous monitoring ensure that each patient receives the support they need for a sustainable recovery and improved overall well-being. 24-hour emergency cardiac services Cardiac emergencies such as heart attacks, cardiac arrests and arrhythmias require immediate medical intervention. Pantai Hospitals' Accident and Emergency team is prepared around the clock to manage acute cardiac events.
