Himesh Reshammiya Hails 'Fantastic' Paresh Rawal For Hera Pheri Films Mid-Concert
Last Updated: Himesh Reshammiya praised Paresh Rawal during his Mumbai concert amid the Hera Pheri 3 controversy. Rawal exited the project, leading to a legal conflict. Himesh Reshammiya enjoyed a packed audience at his Mumbai concert on Saturday, May 31. After taking a dig at trolls about his nasal tune, the singer paused his concert midway to praise Paresh Rawal for his performance in both Hera Pheri films. This comes amid erupting controversy over Rawal's exit from the film. During his concert, Himesh Reshammiya lauded Paresh Rawal. He said, 'Hera Pheri 1, he was fantastic, Hera Pheri 2, he was fantastic, he was also great in…" and started singing the popular O Meri Zohrajabeen track from Phir Hera Pheri, which featured Paresh Rawal as the iconic Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, alongside Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty. Though Himesh didn't directly address the ongoing controversy surrounding Paresh Rawal and Hera Pheri 3, his mention of it during the concert can be seen as a silent response to the matter. What Is The Hera Pheri 3 Controversy? Paresh Rawal decided to leave the project, which resulted in a legal conflict with Akshay Kumar's Cape of Good Films. The production company reportedly filed a Rs 25 crore lawsuit against him. According to Bollywood Hungama, Rawal returned Rs 11 lakh, the amount he received as a signing fee, along with 15 percent annual interest and a little extra compensation for his exit. A source informed the portal, 'Paresh Rawal has returned the signing amount of Rs 11 lakhs with 15% p.a. interest and also a little more money for stepping away from the series." Soon after, Rawal took to X and stated that his lawyer has addressed the controversy surrounding his exit from Hera Pheri. He wrote, 'My lawyer, Ameet Naik, has sent an appropriate response regarding my rightful termination and exit. Once they read my response all issues will be laid to rest." During the trailer launch event of Housefull 5, the issue resurfaced when Akshay Kumar was questioned about his fallout with Paresh. In a viral video, Akshay responded, 'I've been working with him for the past 30 years. 32 saal se unke saath kaam karte aya hoon. We are very good friends. He is a great actor whom I really admire. I don't think this is the right place to discuss it. Since it's a very serious matter, it will be handled by the court. I'm not going to speak about it here." Meanwhile, rumours are rife that the makers are now eyeing Pankaj Tripathi to take on the role of Baburao in Hera Pheri 3. An official confirmation regarding this is awaited. In an earlier interview with The Lallantop, Rawal had confessed that while people still adore Baburao, the role now feels like a trap to him. Rawal didn't hold back while explaining his feelings about being typecast. He shared how he once went to filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj in 2007, just a year after 'Hera Pheri 2' was released, asking for a different kind of role. He said, "I went to Vishal Bhardwaj [director] in 2007. In 2006, Hera Pheri 2 was released. I told him that I have a film. I want to get rid of this image. You are the person who can offer me a completely different role in the same getup." Bhardwaj was curious why Rawal wanted to move on from such a popular role. To this, Rawal responded, "Whoever comes to me, he has an image of Hera Pheri in mind. I am an actor. I don't want to get stuck at one place." This shows how deeply Rawal felt about his artistic journey. As he explained further, "I asked him to offer me a new character in the same getup. I felt happy but dum ghutta hai (I felt choked). Earlier, Pinkvilla exclusively reported that the producers of Hera Pheri 3, Cape of Good Films, have sent a legal notice to Paresh Rawal for damages of Rs 25 crore. A source shared, 'Cape of Good Films had procured the rights of Hera Pheri 3 from multiple stakeholders and even repaid all the debts existing on the film. The amount splurged was in crores, as the intent was to get back Hera Pheri on the big screen after 20 years for the audience. Paresh's unprofessional behaviour has cost a bomb to the film.' Fans reject Pankaj Tripathi's viral AI avatar as Baburao amid Paresh Rawal's Hera Pheri 3 exit: ‘Like Robert Pattinson in Batman'
The future of Hera Pheri 3 hangs in uncertainty following Paresh Rawal 's sudden departure from the project, which reportedly led Akshay Kumar to issue a legal notice to the veteran star. While fans anxiously await news about the next installment of the iconic comedy series, many have turned to imagining Pankaj Tripathi in the legendary role of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte. An AI-generated image depicting Tripathi as Baburao has gone viral online, sparking largely negative reactions from the audience, calling it "like Robert Pattinson in Batman." In the viral AI-generated image, Pankaj Tripathi is styled with Baburao's iconic thick-rimmed glasses and trademark hairstyle. He's dressed in the character's familiar white dhoti and vest, complete with a gold chain and bracelet, finishing touches that evoke the classic look. The image was shared with the caption, 'Can Pankaj Tripathi play Baburao Ganpatrao Apte in Hera Pheri?' However, the post has received largely critical feedback on Reddit. Take a look at the image below: One user commented, 'Pankaj Tripathi could bring something valuable to the role, but he wouldn't be a replacement, he'd be a reinvention. He'd probably make a good 'Babu Bhaiya' type character in a spin-off or reboot, but stepping into Paresh Rawal's shoes directly would feel off. Audiences would constantly compare them, and the charm of the original might get lost. So respectfully, no.' Another added, 'It's gonna be how it was for Robert Pattinson in Batman.' One comment read, "Both are good actors. But this role can be done by on and only Paresh Rawal." Suniel Shetty had earlier shared his surprise over Paresh Rawal's departure from Hera Pheri 3, emphasizing that the film simply couldn't move forward without the veteran actor. In a conversation with ANI, Shetty reportedly stated that while the project might still have a slim chance of continuing without him or Akshay Kumar, it was impossible to imagine it without Paresh Rawal. He noted that the dynamic between Raju and Shyam would fall flat without Baburao's iconic presence. In a separate interview with Zoom, Shetty further highlighted that the film's lasting impact came from its beloved characters, Raju, Shyam, and Baburao, rather than the actors themselves, stressing that no one could replace the original trio. With this in mind, fans continue to hope that Rawal might reconsider and return to the franchise.
