Lamine Yamal takes over Messi's iconic Barcelona No. 10 jersey
Lamine Yamal will wear the iconic jersey No. 10 for Barcelona, the La Liga champion announced on Wednesday.
The number was worn by Lionel Messi from 2008 until 2021 when he left the club on a free transfer to Paris Saint Grmain. Before Messi, the jersey has gone to greats Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Maradona.
Ansu Fati took over the number after Messi's exit. However, with Fati completing a move to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, Yamal was handed over the shirt.
The 18-year-old signed a new contract with Blaugrana last month, which will keep him at the club till 2031. Yamal has shown promise as the next face of the Catalan club. In his short career, Yamal already has 104 appearance and 25 goals.
He has won two La Liga titles, and one Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup each.
