Music legend Ozzy Osbourne dies 'surrounded by love' aged 76
Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76 (Picture: Getty Images) Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76. The music legend's family confirmed the news in a statement earlier today, sharing that he died this morning. The message, from his wife Sharon Osbourne and their three children – Kelly, Jack and Aimee, read: 'It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. 'He was with his family and surrounded by love. 'We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.' Ozzy's cause of death has yet to be confirmed, but he had open about his devastating battle with Parkinson's over the last few years. At the beginning of the month, he took to the stage at Villa Park in Birmingham for the Back to the Beginning show, and delighted the crowd with a short solo. During the all-day event, he was also joined on stage by bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. 'It's so good to be on this stage. You have no idea,' he said, thanking those who had gathered at the stadium 'from the bottom of [his] heart. 'You have no idea how I feel.' Ozzy recently performed on stage at Black Sabbath's farewell gig In January 2020, he revealed in an emotional interview that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's after suffering health complications due to a fall in 2019, which meant he had to have surgery on his neck. Sharon explained: 'It's Parkin's II, which a form of Parkinson's. There's so many different types of Parkinson's. It's not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination, but it does effect certain nerves in your body. 'It's like you have a good day, a good day, and then a really bad day.' The star had been battling a string of health issues (Picture: Getty) Speaking to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, she continued: 'I'm on a host of medications, mainly for this surgery. I've got numbness down this arm from the surgery, my legs [keep] going cold. 'I don't know if that's Parkinson's or what. That's the problem, because they cut nerves when they did the surgery. It's a weird feeling.' The Black Sabbath legend added that he was taking medication for his Parkin's. The couple were seeking treatment in Switzerland for his illness. The couple share children Jack, Kelly and Aimee (Picture: Getty) In 2019, Ozzy suffered a string of illnesses and accidents, which began with hospitalisation for pneumonia. Then, the reality star suffered a horror fall in his LA home, which dislodged the metal rods in his spine that had been put in after a quad-bike accident in 2003. Speaking to the Daily Mail's Weekend magazine, he recalled: 'I went to the bathroom in the night, lost my balance and landed flat on my face. I saw this big white flash when I hit the floor and I thought, 'You've finally done it now'. 'I knew it was bad, I thought I was paralysed, so very calmly I said, 'Sharon, I can't move. I think I've done my neck. Phone an ambulance'.' The musician had to undergo three operations following the fall, and had to spend Christmas away from Sharon and daughter Kelly as doctors advised he was not well enough to fly back to the UK. Osbourne, real name John Michael Osbourne, rose to fame in the 1970s as the frontman of metal band Black Sabbath, during which time he was nicknamed The Prince Of Darkness. They went on to release tracks such as Paranoid, Iron Man and Changes. His most infamous moment was in 1982 when he bit the head off a bat – believed to be dead at the time – while on stage at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa, on January 20. The creature was launched at him from the audience by a fan and it was only after he had bitten into it that he realised it was a real animal. He was later rushed to hospital for a rabies injection. Major Dubai parking changes in 2025 that you need to know
Parking in Dubai can be challenging with so many other drivers to compete with for a space. You may have a specific spot in mind, but it's often the case that someone else has got there first, and that means you'll need to find a new place to park. Parking has already changed a lot in 2025, with new rates, systems and zones introduced all across the city throughout the year. To allow you to keep on top of things and not get caught out when you're driving around, we've rounded up the big parking changes you need to know about this year in Dubai. New public parking zones introduced in 2025 Credit: Parkin Several new parking zones have been launched throughout 2025 so be wary next time you're driving around. Public parking operator Parkin has launched new zones in major Dubai neighbourhoods. In July, a new 24/7 zone was launched at Al Khail Gate which introduced a flat Dhs30 for daily parking and an hourly tarrif of Dhs4 during both off-peak and peak hours. In May, two new zones were introduced in Mirdif which covers on-street and off-street parking. Off-peak parking was priced at Dhs2 per hour and during peak hours it was Dhs4 per hour. You may like: How mall parking *actually* works in Dubai Salik launched ticketless parking in 18 locations Salik (Credit: CanvaPro) Tollgate operator Salik recently teamed up with Parkonic, the UAE's largest private parking operator, to bring parking solutions to numerous parking sites across Dubai. The initiative was first rolled out to 107 core locations across the UAE and now residents and visitors will soon be able to use its eWallet system across 18 new locations in Dubai. The new ticket-free and automatic parking payments using your Salik account will be available at these new locations. Locations include the Union Coops in Al Twar, Silicon Oasis, Al Quoz, Al Barsha, Mankhool and Nad Al Hamar. The Beach JBR, Park Islands, Heera Beach, Park Islands, Marina Walk, West Palm Beach, Opus Tower, Lulu Al Qusais and Azure Residence are also included in the new Salik/Parkonic locations. Barrierless parking introduced at major Dubai malls Mall of the Emirates (Credit: Mall of the Emirates) In recent times, some of the city's biggest malls have removed parking barriers to make it quicker to get in and out of car parks. As long as your timing is right, you can make some major savings on parking at some of the city's biggest malls and focus, instead, on grabbing bargains. BurJuman has introduced Automatic Number Plate Recognition to calculate fees. It means that there's no longer a need for a ticket but you'll still need to pay at a machine and rates have not changed. City Centre Deira, Mall of the Emirates and City Centre Mirdif all removed barriers in their respective parking zones. Rates have not changed as a result of the changes. Parking to change at Dubai public parks (Credit: Supplied) The city's official parking operator, Parkin, is set to take over public parking facilities at some of the emirate's biggest and most popular public parks. An agreement between Parkin and Dubai Municipality means that the parking operator will now manage several select free public parking facilities that are owned by Dubai Municipality. The two parties will develop planning and regulatory standards, streamline permit procedures and enable data exchange to support services. It has not yet been revealed which sites Parkin will begin operating the parking facilities at. But Dubai Municipality do operate the likes of Al Safa Park, Dubai Frame and Quranic Park. New parking rates across Dubai In 2025, new parking tariffs have been introduced across the city at Parkin-controlled on-street and off-street zones. Premium spaces across the city have been hiked up to Dhs6 per hour at several zones across the city. It also clarified the peak and off-peak parking hours in Dubai. The increase in tariffs was announced alongside a change to dynamic Salik toll gate pricing in November 2024, but came into effect on Friday April 5 in 2025. Peak pricing will apply to six out of the 14 chargeable hours per day – 8am to 10am plus 4pm to 8pm – but these prices will not be in place on Sundays or on public holidays. Tariffs during off-peak hours will be unchanged. This means that what you pay will not change between 10am and 4pm as well as between 8pm and 10pm. The updated tariffs applied to zones A, B, C and D and can be seen in full here. Parking fee increases in Dubai (Credit: Canva) Since the introduction of new Parkin rates in Zones A, B, C and D, price hikes have been introduced in specific neighbourhoods. Parking during major events at Dubai World Trade Centre has seen a significant spike to Dhs25 per hour. The area surrounding DWTC is now known as a Grand Event Zone, with parking now priced at Dhs25 per hour during big conferences. In April, Parkin doubled fees in four of the emirate's biggest neighbourhoods. Rates increased in Al Karama, Al Qusais, Madinat Dubai Al Melaheyah and Al Kiraf. Previously, Zone W parking spots cost Dhs2, but this latest announcement means that the price is now double. In February, fees increased in the Al Sufouh 2 area, which meant a hike in hourly prices in Barsha Heights, Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City. In a post on X, Parkin stated: 'Parkin introduces new subscriptions designed for students, educators, and multi-storey parking access, with flexible options to suit your daily needs.' Public parking in Dubai is organised and managed by Parkin, which took over responsibility from the RTA in 2024. Looking after public and private spaces around the city, Parkin has since implemented a new tariff system for parking, which divides into four zones named A, B, C and (you guessed it), D. Coming into practice in April 2025, there is also a new peak time hours fee for specific spaces that are located near transport hubs, business districts and shopping areas. With the new tariffs, these premium parking spaces have risen to Dhs6 per hour. In contrast, regular parking spaces across the city have remained priced at Dhs4 per hour. Dubai's Parkin announces monthly parking subscription for students, teachers
Here's good news for students and school staff to save on their parking expenses: Parkin Company PJSC announced on Wednesday new parking subscriptions designed for students, educators, and users of multi-storey parking. Students with cars can now subscribe to a seasonal parking permit starting at Dh100 per month. Parkin, Dubai's largest provider of paid public parking facilities, said students can 'maximise savings with the student parking subscription, granting (them) access to both roadside and plots parking with zone codes A, B, C, and D, within a 500-metre radius of their campus. Staff of private educational establishments can also subscribe to a seasonal parking card from Dh100 monthly to enjoy 'convenient and budget-friendly parking near their campus.' Subscription to multi-storey parking is also now offered starting at Dh735 monthly. This will give motorists 'convenient multi-storey parking near (their) home, workplace, or favourite destinations in Dubai,' Parkin posted on social media platform X. Peak hours tariffs The implementation of variable parking fees has translated to higher parking fees during peak hours in locations designated as premium areas. For example, parking at a residential area in Al Barsha that carries code 373CP (designated as a premium area) is now Dh6 for one hour during peak hours (8am to 10am; and from 4pm to 8pm), from the previous rate of Dh2. Parking charge goes up to Dh12 for 2 hours (from Dh 5); Dh18 for 3 hours (previously Dh 8 for 3 hours); Dh24 for 4 hours (Dh 11 for 4 hours before April 4) Peak pricing applies for 6 out of the 14 chargeable hours per day — from 8am to 10am (2 hours) and 4pm to 8pm (4 hours), excluding Sundays and public holidays. Premium parking is categorised as parking facilities in high-demand, densely populated areas, including adjacent to or near public transport infrastructure. The zones are marked with dedicated signage and tariff details on display. Dh273.3 million revenues Parkin posted a record Dh273.3 million total revenue in the first quarter this year, marking a 27 per cent increase compared to the first three months of 2024. The income was posted before the implementation of variable parking tariff. Parkin has yet to release its second quarter revenues but earlier expected a 'growth in revenues driven by the implementation of the variable pricing tariff policy and expansion of (our) public parking portfolio." Early this month, Parkin announced signing an agreement with Dubai Municipality giving them the opportunity to operate parking facilities at some public parks in Dubai.
