Umno-PKR ties in unity govt intact despite Tengku Zafrul's exit, says Johari Ghani
BATU PAHAT: Umno's cooperation with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) within the unity government remains intact despite Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz's resignation from the party, says Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. Johari, who is Umno vice-president, said both parties must remain united in their efforts to ensure the country's political stability. "For example, in government, I play a role in national development as a minister. Political developments are normal, but they should not affect the strength of our coalition within the Unity Government and the country," he said. He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Madani Adopted Village (KAM) programme handover ceremony for the Plantation and Commodities Ministry at Kampung Parit Bilal here on Saturday (May 31). On May 30, Tengku Zafrul, who is the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, announced his resignation as a Umno Supreme Council member, Kota Raja division chief and party member. On Saturday's programme, Johari, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, said RM2.5mil has been allocated to Kampung Parit Bilal and Kampung Parit Ahmad under the ministry's Madani Adopted Village initiative. The funds would go toward implementing various development projects, including upgrading educational facilities, houses of worship and basic infrastructure, he said. He said the initiative also involves strategic cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, the Batu Pahat district office, Johor state development office, village development and security committees and local community leaders. "Among the activities planned are entrepreneurship training, such as chocolate-making courses and outreach programmes under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) MyCommodity initiative," Johari added. – Bernama

Umno respects Tengku Zafrul's decision to leave party, says Tok Mat
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan respects the decision of Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz to leave the party and pursue a political direction more aligned with his personal views. Mohamad said the move was neither surprising nor unusual, given the increasingly dynamic and diverse political landscape in the country. He said every individual has the right to choose their political path, adding that Umno will continue to move forward, focusing on rebuilding the party's strength and championing the people's interests. The Foreign Minister said Umno has never relied on any single individual, as the party was built on grassroots strength, a spirit of struggle and the trust of the people. 'People come and go, and that's the nature of politics. What matters is that the struggle must go on,' said in a Facebook post today. Mohamad also expressed appreciation for Tengku Zafrul's contributions during his tenure in the government under Umno's banner. He said Tengku Zafrul, who is Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, had played a significant role as a technocrat contributing to the country's economic and financial sectors. Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul announced in a Facebook post that he had resigned from Umno and expressed his intention to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

Tengku Zafrul could strengthen PKR, especially in Selangor
KUALA LUMPUR: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz's intention to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), if accepted, could further strengthen the party, especially in Selangor, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. He expressed confidence that he and the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry could forge even stronger cooperation if they were in the same party. 'I believe we can work closely together. In fact, we already have a good working relationship, even during his time as Finance Minister. 'Now, in his current role, we continue to collaborate, particularly in key sectors such as aerospace and semiconductors. If we are in the same party, I believe this cooperation can be further enhanced,' he told reporters after officiating the MyLesen B2 Driving Licence Programme at Dewan Seri Siantan in Selayang today. Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul announced on Facebook that he had resigned from UMNO and expressed his intention to join PKR. PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh confirmed today that the party has yet to receive a formal membership application from Tengku Zafrul. Amirudin, who is also a PKR vice president, said he was confident that the party's ties with UMNO would remain intact, as both sides have built a foundation of mutual understanding. Responding to speculation that Tengku Zafrul's move could be linked to efforts to replace him as Selangor Menteri Besar, Amirudin dismissed the suggestion. 'To me, that's far-fetched. I don't see it happening, especially since it would require a by-election. 'We have only two and a half years left in this term, so there isn't much room for such changes. We'll wait and see how things unfold,' said the Sungai Tua state assemblyman and Gombak MP. On a lighter note, Amirudin jokingly asked Tengku Zafrul, who will soon be performing the Haj pilgrimage, to pray for him to remain as Selangor Menteri Besar.
