PFF is at it again, this time disrespecting Pat Surtain
PFF is at it again, this time disrespecting Pat Surtain Does Pro Football Focus have something against the Denver Broncos? Nik Bonitto is coming off a second-team All-Pro nod in 2024. PFF has him ranked as the 23rd-best pass rusher in the NFL (below Bradley Chubb). Zach Allen also received second-team All-Pro recognition last fall. PFF has him ranked as the league's 20th-best interior defensive lineman (below John Franklin-Myers). Meanwhile, Pat Surtain just won Defensive Player of the Year in 2024. He was recognized as the best overall defender -- regardless of position -- last season. Yet PFF's cornerback rankings have PS2 ranked No. 2 behind Sauce Gardner. "The reigning Defensive Player of the Year has recorded an 89.5 PFF coverage grade over the past three seasons, ranking second among cornerbacks, and his PFF advanced coverage grade places third," John Kosko wrote of Surtain on PFF's website. Allen has received little national recognition, while Bonitto became more of a household name last season. Surtain is an established star, widely considered the best cornerback in the NFL. PFF disrespecting all three is strange, but it has to be a coincidence. The site gave the Broncos an "A" grade for their offseason, so the rankings don't feel like a conscious decision to disrespect the club, but a reflection of a flawed grading system. Broncos roster: Pat Surtain (No. 2) enters Year 5 as NFL's best cornerback
Broncos roster: Pat Surtain (No. 2) enters Year 5 as NFL's best cornerback Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fifth-year cornerback Pat Surtain, No. 2. Before the Broncos: The son of former NFL cornerback Patrick Surtain Sr., PS2 played high school football in Florida before going on to star at Alabama. He was named a Unanimous All-American and the SEC Defensive Player of the Year after helping the Crimson Tide win a national championship in 2020. Surtain (6-2, 202) left college as one of the top cornerbacks in the nation. Broncos tenure: Denver used its first pick (ninth overall) to select Surtain in the 2021 NFL draft. He has been a star since Day 1, making PFWA's All-Rookie Team in 2021 before going on to earn Pro Bowl selections each year from 2022-2024. Surtain was named a first-team All-Pro in 2022 and 2024, winning Defensive Player of the Year last fall. The 25-year-old cornerback has totaled 232 tackles, 47 pass breakups, 11 interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns), two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery through four years (66 games) with the Broncos. Chances to make the 53-man roster: Lock. Surtain is the team's best player, and he will enter the 2025 season ready to defend his DPOY title. Already considered the best cornerback in the NFL, PS2 is entering his prime. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

NFL owners make ruling on players competing in Olympics
NFL owners have voted in favor of allowing players to compete in the 2028 L.A. Olympics, with flag football being the main draw for players. There is a caveat that no more than one player per NFL team can be picked for an Olympic squad, with the exception that international players with roster exemptions are also allowed to represent their respective countries. So, if the Denver Broncos have an international player on their roster in 2028, they could have up to two players participate in the 2028 Olympics that summer. Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain could be a potential coverage candidate for Team USA's defense, and a pass rusher like Nik Bonitto and a speedy wide receiver like Marvin Mims could also draw interest from the Olympic squad. Advertisement The 2028 Olympics are scheduled to be held from July 14-30, so there should be minimal overlap for NFL offseason programs. Most clubs begin training camp in late July, and no team would be missing more than two players if camp starts before the Olympics wrap up. Flag football is coming to the Olympics, and at least one Broncos player could be involved. Just three more years to go. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans. Building Team USA's 2028 flag football team with Broncos players
Flag football is coming to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, and NFL players will be allowed to participate. No more than two players per NFL team can be picked for Team USA, and designated international players will also be eligible to represent their respective countries. So the Denver Broncos will be missing a maximum of two players during the Olympics in 2028 (July 14-30). Advertisement Team USA will have a 10-player roster for a 5-on-5 flag football format. The Broncos can't send more than two players, but we've been thinking about what a full 10-player squad could look like for Denver. The team's first and most obvious candidate is star cornerback Pat Surtain. He'll be 28 years old in 2028 -- still in the prime of his career -- and he has expressed interest in playing both ways, a skill that could be crucial for the flag team. The Broncos would need at least two more cover players -- Riley Moss (28 in '28) and Jahdae Barron (26 in '28) would be strong candidates. Denver does not have an elite coverage linebacker, so we'll add a fourth defensive back with Ja'Quan McMillian (27 in '28). The team's pass rusher is an easy choice: Nik Bonitto (27 in '28). On offense, Bo Nix (28 in '28) is the team's obvious choice at quarterback. The team's top wide receiver option by 2028 (for a flag football format) will likely be Marvin Mims (26 in '28). Speed is crucial in flag, so Mims is joined by Troy Franklin (25 in '28) at receiver. The third receiver spot goes to Pat Bryant (24 in '28) to give the team some height at the position. The fifth and final spot is a tight end/center hybrid role. How about a 6-7 Caleb Lohner (28 in '28)? Advertisement Mims and Surtain would presumably be the stars of this team. PS2 could play CB and WR, and Mims could make a big impact at WR, RB and pass rusher. The average age of this squad would be just under 27.
