Karnataka on its way to emerge as leading MRO hub in Asia: M.B. Patil
With IndiGo's announcement of setting up a ₹1,100-crore maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport, following similar commitments from Air India, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd., and HAL, the State will emerge as a preferred destination for aviation innovation, manufacturing, and maintenance in Asia, M.B. Patil, Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, has said. This milestone initiative highlighted Karnataka's emergence as a regional leader in aviation infrastructure in Asia and reaffirmed the State's commitment to enabling industrial growth and high-skilled job creation across various functions of MRO, said the Minister. The MRO facility that is coming up on a patch of 31 acres of land would feature four hangars capable of servicing four wide-body or eight narrow-body aircraft; one paint hangar accommodating one wide-body or two narrow-body aircraft, support for IndiGo's expanding fleet, including A320/A321XLR aircraft and incoming wide-body models such as the A350 series, and capability to service codeshare partners' aircraft. This project is expected to generate over 750 direct high-skill jobs across engineering, logistics, warehousing, and support services. It will also enhance KIA's capacity to handle an estimated 1,300 aircraft by FY31, scaling to approximately 2,100 aircraft by FY37/38. The MRO facility would attract leading global OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, creating a multiplier effect that boosts ancillary industries, vendor ecosystems, and skill development across the region, Mr. Patil anticipated.

Govt tribal park project for Banjaras in limbo for a decade
Bidar: A flagship initiative of the Congress government aimed at preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Banjara (Lambani) community — the Tribal Park in Borampalli, Humnabad taluk of Bidar district lies in a state of neglect, even a decade after it was first sanctioned. Locals and community leaders have now accused the government of failing to deliver on its commitment, despite allocating Rs 200 crore for the ambitious project. Launched with the intent to showcase Banjara attire, crafts, folk dances, music, and lifestyle, the park was expected to become a hub for cultural preservation and economic empowerment. However, delays bureaucratic apathy, and lack of political will have rendered the project a non-starter, triggering widespread anger among the Lambani community. The project was first sanctioned during the **Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in 2015-16, with a vision to complete construction within a year. A 34.06-acre plot was earmarked in Borampalli village, and initial infrastructure like compound walls and internal roads were constructed by the Karnataka Tanda Development Corporation. The government even approved Rs 200 crore in the Cabinet and released the first tranche of Rs 50 crore. Yet, ten years later, critical components like the hostel, training centers, and cultural exhibition halls remain incomplete. Contracts handed over to various departments, including land development arms, have failed to expedite the work, leaving behind only skeletal structures and broken promises. The proposed Tribal Park was intended to include a Banjara costume production unit with modern technology for cultural preservation and job creation, a Kasuti embroidery training centre for artisans to learn, produce, and sell traditional work. A folk arts school to teach traditional music and dance ,Semi-residential schools for children of migrant workers ,a rehabilitation centre for alcohol addiction and a cement and brick manufacturing unit for local employment generation The park was also envisioned as a space to promote Banjara handicrafts, generate tourism, and build a self-sustaining economic model for the community. However, none of these objectives have been achieved, as work remains stalled at the foundation level in most places. Former Minister Rajashekhar Patil has now urged local MLAs and Congress leadership to intervene, alleging that the lack of interest from officers and elected representatives** is turning the government's own pet project into a symbol of failure. 'Despite Rs 50 crore being released, the departments have not shown the will to complete this work. The government's apathy is killing its own ambitious project meant for a vulnerable and culturally rich community,' Patil said. Local citizens and activists have echoed the demand, asking the state to wake up and finish what it started. They warned that the Lambani community's cultural legacy is at risk of disappearing**, especially in the face of increasing modernization. The Tribal Park was conceived not just as a tourist attraction but as a living museum of the Banjara way of life — an effort to revive vanishing traditions, offer employment to tribal artisans, and introduce their craft to a global audience. But with a decade lost to red tape and inaction, what remains is a stark reminder of how grand ideas can rot without political will. Community leaders say the Banjara identity, already marginalized, is being pushed further into oblivion. Citizens have now demanded that the Congress government re-evaluate its priorities, hold officials accountable, and immediately resume construction to restore faith and dignity to the community that once celebrated the announcement of this dream project. If the government truly believes in inclusion and cultural preservation, let it prove it — not in words, but in action,' said a local activist from Humnabad. The Tribal Park lies unfinished — not because of lack of funds, but because of a lack of intent. For a government that promised empowerment and equity, the silence on this issue speaks louder than any speech.

Pune college makes special exam arrangements for student after bail over post on Indo-Pak conflict
'As per the honourable High Court's order, her exam has been arranged in a separate classroom,' said Principal Kishor Patil in response to a text message from PTI. She was granted bail by the Bombay High Court, which made scathing remarks against the Maharashtra government for 'being bent upon ruining her life' and turning her into a 'hardcore criminal'. The HC also pulled the college, Sinhgad Academy of Engineering, for 'hurriedly' rusticating the student without allowing her to explain herself. Pune, May 28 (PTI) The Pune-based college of a 19-year-old student, who spent over a fortnight behind bars for a social media post about the Indo-Pak conflict, said on Wednesday they have made separate arrangements for her semester exam. Earlier, Patil had said the college issued her admit card on Wednesday, and she would be appearing for the exam on Thursday. Sources in the college administration said a separate supervisor will be assigned for her exam, and two security guards, one male and one female, will accompany her on the campus for her safety. The young woman's uncle also told PTI that she would be writing her paper on Thursday. 'As per the court's order, the college has made adequate arrangements for her. We will accompany her to the college and back home,' he said. About the two papers that the student missed due to her arrest, sources from the college said the decision lies with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), to which the institute is affiliated. When contacted, Prabhakar Desai, Controller of Examinations at SPPU, said the varsity has not yet received the court order. 'We will go through the order once we receive it and take a decision in the interest of the student, as per the instructions of the honourable high court,' he said. The student from Jammu and Kashmir was arrested by Pune police on May 9 over a social media post allegedly criticising the Indian government amid the Indo-Pak conflict. She was released from Yerwada jail on Tuesday after the HC granted her bail. Following the registration of a case against her, the college had rusticated her. However, the HC suspended the rustication order and came down heavily on the Maharashtra government for 'being bent upon ruining her life' and turning her into a 'hardcore criminal.' Her lawyer, Farhana Shah, said the student was released from Yerwada jail around 9.30 pm on Tuesday after completion of formalities. Her family members were present outside the jail for the emotional reunion. PTI SPK NR This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.

India bloc demands immediate aid for farmers
Kolhapur: Office-bearers of the India Bloc Alliance parties on Wednesday demanded immediate financial assistance of Rs50,000 per hectare for farmers severely affected by the heavy rainfall experienced in the last week. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now A delegation, led by MP Shahu Chhatrapati and Congress group leader in the Legislative Council MLC Satej Patil, submitted a written statement outlining their demands to district collector Amol Yedage on Wednesday evening. They emphasized the significant losses incurred by farmers due to the recent rainfall and called for an immediate assessment of the damages across Kolhapur district. Patil highlighted the extensive damage caused by the rainfall in Kolhapur district, affecting not only agricultural products but also houses, livestock, roads and other essential infrastructure. "These rains caused major damage to agricultural products, houses, animals, as well as roads and infrastructure. The standing crops of several farmers got damaged," Patil said. He urged govt to provide immediate financial assistance of Rs50,000 per hectare. Patil also pointed out that state govt has declared the recent bouts of rainfall as "state special natural disaster". This classification, he noted, allows for the utilization of up to 10% of the State Disaster Response Fund's annual grant to address the current crisis. "It is possible to provide immediate assistance to the affected citizens in such a disaster. Accordingly, a demand was also made to conduct immediate panchanama of all the affected areas and other components of the district and provide financial assistance to the affected citizens," he said. "Despite the farmers suffering huge losses, the CM is not seen interacting with them. Only politics is being discussed," Patil added.
