CM to dedicate city's first elevated double-decker tomorrow

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar will dedicate the city's first elevated corridor (double-decker) to the public on Wednesday, said road construction department minister Nitin Nabin on Monday. This will be the second double-decker flyover in the state after the one at Chhapra being constructed with the latest technology. The minister, who along with department secretary Sandeep Kumar R Pudakalkatti inspected on Monday the construction work of the double-decker built between Science College and Kargil Chowk near Gandhi Maidan via PMCH, said vehicles will run in three layers on this stretch on Ashok Rajpath for the first time. He said the double-decker flyover built by Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited at a cost of Rs 422 crore is in its final stages. Nabin said once the double-decker flyover opens to the public, traffic on Ashok Rajpath will become very smooth. Also, the connectivity of this double-decker flyover with the fast-moving Patna Metro project will further strengthen the traffic management of the city. He also said the work on 1.45-km-long lower deck (Tier-1) from Patna College main gate to BN College main gate and 2.2-km-long upper deck (Tier-2) from Kargil Chowk to Patna University gate (Shatabdi Dwar) and Patna Science College has been completed. "Along with this, 90% construction work of service road has also been completed," the minister said and added, "The flyover will be connected to JP Ganga Path (Patna river front road) via Krishna Ghat as an alternative route to the vehicles coming from Gandhi Setu and other routes. " The total length of the Ashok Rajpath double-decker flyover is 2.2km. Its first level will be 1.5-km-long, which will extend from Patna College to BN College. The second level will be 2.2-km-long, which extends from Kargil Chowk to Science College. Both levels will have 8.5-metre-wide carriageways designed for one-way traffic. The upper deck (Tier-II) is for traffic going from Gandhi Maidan to Science College and the lower deck (Tier-l) for going from Patna College to Gandhi Maidan. This project will be coordinated with Patna Metro Rail, road on Bakarganj nullah and the proposed multi-level car parking at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH).
