Patrick and Brittany Mahomes get huge reality check after Mexico family vacation with new NFL season looming

Patrick and Brittany Mahomes received a huge reality check Tuesday as they were spotted juggling their brood. The Kansas City Chiefs star has enjoyed an offseason of rest and relaxation, including a Fourth of July yacht party, as he attempted to brush of the heartbreak of February's Super Bowl defeat. The couple and their three children - Sterling Skye, three, and son Patrick 'Bronze' Lavon Mahomes III, two, and baby Golden Raye, six months - enjoyed some quality time together as the quarterback savored his final moments of freedom. The family appeared to have jetted off to Mexico to soak up their final rays of summer sun before Mahomes has to get back to business. However, the signal caller came crashing back to reality Tuesday as he and his family headed back to Missouri - and life on the grind. Mahomes, along with his teammates including Travis Kelce, is set to report for the Chiefs' preseason training next week on Tuesday July 22. The family appear set to return to Kansas City ahead of the Chiefs' preseason training And in preparation of his return to the field, the Mahomeses' family vacation came to an end as he and his wife were spotted traipsing their brood across the airport. Mahomes was captured carting multiple bags as he strolled across the tarmac towards what appeared to be a private jet. His eldest daughter, Sterling, trotted behind him with the doting dad turning around to check on her. Bronze was also seen tottering after his father as mom Brittany trailed close behind, keeping tabs on the energetic toddler. There was no sign of the Mahomeses' youngest bundle of joy, Golden, whom they welcomed in January, but Brittany was pictured carrying a bundle of blankets. The mother-of-three dressed for comfort in a white sports dress, sneakers and sunglasses. She simply piled her long blonde tresses up in messy updo, held together by a claw clip. The Mahomes family outing comes after the Chiefs sealed a huge move to boost the quarterback's chances next season. Kansas City reached an agreement with Trey Smith over a new four-year, $94million contract just hours before Tuesday's franchise-tag deadline . According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Smith's new deal, which includes $70m guaranteed, makes him the highest-paid guard in NFL history. The 26-year-old is also set to earn the highest-average annual salary and most guaranteed money ever handed to a guard, Schefter added. With both Smith and Creed Humphrey on the offensive line, Kansas City now has the highest-paid guard and center in the NFL after agreeing a record deal with the former. Humphrey signed a four-year extension of his own worth $72m with $50m guaranteed in August 2024, which remains the record for a center. The Chiefs used their franchise tag on Smith in February in order to maintain control of the coveted lineman for another season, albeit at the hefty salary of $23.4m. Had they failed to come to terms with him before Tuesday's 4pm EST deadline, he would have been able to become a free agent after the 2025 campaign or be tagged again at an even higher price in 2026. Instead, the Chiefs now have Smith locked through the 2028 season at an average annual salary of $23.5m.

Congratulations Pouring In For Patrick Mahomes On Monday

Congratulations Pouring In For Patrick Mahomes On Monday originally appeared on The Spun. Congratulations are pouring in for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Monday. The 2024 NFL season was a tough one for Mahomes. He lost the NFL's MVP award to another quarterback, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. He lost the Super Bowl, 40-22, to Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles. And heading into the 2025 season, some believe that he's no longer the best quarterback in the league. Advertisement But on Monday, ESPN released its list of the 10 best quarterbacks in the league, heading into the 2025 regular season. Where does Patrick Mahomes come in? (Photo by)Mahomes has been ranked the No. 1 quarterback in the league, once again, by ESPN heading into the 2025 season. "Mahomes' grip on the top spot is loosening slightly. After dominating the voting with back-to-back No. 1 rankings in convincing fashion, Mahomes garnered around 60% of the first-place votes this year, which is still impressive but well short of last year, when he received all but one first-place vote," ESPN wrote. "He has finished eighth in QBR the past two years; from 2018 through 2022, he finished first or second four times. Rarely does Mahomes look as frazzled as he did vs. Philadelphia in Super Bowl LIV." Advertisement It's another major honor for Mahomes. "The national narrative about Mahomes has really shifted to where they are pretending the other top QBs are in his stratosphere 🤦🏽‍♂️. Whatever drives clicks and views, I guess," one fan wrote. "Mahomes gets the most calls, which is an advantage, still the gold standard for throwing off-platform," one fan added. "There's a clear and obvious Big Four in the NFL right now and I think you can defend putting the three outside of Mahomes (Allen, Jackson, Burrow) in any order. Dropping any of them outside 4—someone had Lamar at 6!—is silly, though," ESPN's Mina Kimes added. Where would you rank Mahomes heading into the 2025 NFL regular season? Ex NFL QB Reveals What Sets Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Apart

Ex NFL QB Reveals What Sets Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Apart originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs are still one of the top teams in the AFC and NFL. Even after a disappointing loss in February that prevented the NFL's first "three-peat," Patrick Mahomes and Co. could come back stronger next year after offseason moves. Advertisement Former NFL quarterback and current analyst Dan Orlovsky recently offered his take on what makes Mahomes so different from the other top QBs in the league. "The gap has never been this ridiculously big gap when it comes to Patrick, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow," Orlovsky said. "All three of those guys had better seasons last year than Patrick did, yes. But there is the reality that Patrick, not once, not twice, but three or four times, has played his absolute best when it's been needed the most. Those other three guys haven't necessarily done that. And so, is Patrick the best at the position? "He's still the top dog when it comes to you got to go be your very best when it's needed the most. When it comes to the ability to play, those guys have always been kind of nipping at his heels." Mahomes was recently tabbed as the league's top quarterback by ESPN's Field Yates in his annual rankings, although he did note that the former Texas Tech Red Raiders' signal caller's "grip is loosening slightly." Advertisement "Mahomes' grip on the top spot is loosening slightly. After dominating the voting with back-to-back No. 1 rankings in convincing fashion, Mahomes garnered around 60% of the first-place votes this year, which is still impressive but well short of last year, when he received all but one first-place vote," Yates wrote. Patrick Mahomes Is A Very Happy Man On Tuesday

Patrick Mahomes Is A Very Happy Man On Tuesday originally appeared on The Spun. Patrick Mahomes seems overjoyed by Tuesday's significant Kansas Chiefs news. The Chiefs officially signed Trey Smith to a long-term extension. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Smith received a four-year, $94 million deal with $70 million guaranteed, making him the NFL's highest-paid guard. Advertisement Mahomes appeared to celebrate the news by posting a smiling emoji on social media. The star quarterback is understandably happier knowing Smith will stay in Kansas City beyond 2025. Smith has started 80 of 81 games (playoffs included) since the Chiefs made him a sixth-round pick in 2021. He allowed zero sacks and five quarterback hits in 1,115 snaps last season, committing just nine penalties. Pro Football Focus graded him 14th among 136 qualified guards last season. Smith followed his first Pro Bowl nod by playing in his third consecutive Super Bowl. Kansas City kept Smith away from free agency by exercising the franchise tag earlier this offseason. The 26-year-old would have played on a one-year, $23.4 million deal had he not reached an extension by Tuesday's deadline. (Photo by Aaron M. Sprecher/Getty Images)Aaron M. Sprecher/Getty Images Mahomes no longer has to worry about losing an offensive mainstay next year. Smith will keep anchoring an offensive line that added left tackle Jaylon Moore and left guard Kingsley Suamataia alongside All-Pro center Creed Humphrey and right tackle Jawaan Taylor. The Chiefs also drafted tackle Josh Simmons with the No. 32 overall pick. Advertisement Despite Smith's strong 2024, the unit will look to improve this season. The ground game averaged just 4.0 yards per carry, and Mahomes got sacked six times in a lopsided Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. A newly paid Smith will lead the Chiefs to Brazil to open their 2025 season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, Sept. 5. NFL Coordinator Offers League Warning About Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes

NFL Coordinator Offers League Warning About Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes hasn't played up to his usual standards over the last couple of seasons, but despite that, he's won a Super Bowl and been to another. Advertisement Some have said that Mahomes, at just 29 years old, has already peaked, while others think the Chiefs' dynasty is going to come to an abrupt end in 2025. Now, we aren't there yet, taking a until we see it approach it will be as you were for the Chiefs, and when it comes to the "down" play of Patrick, which we know is true, an NFL coordinator gave the league a warning when it came to Mahomes in Jeremy Fowler's quarterback rankings piece for ESPN. "OL in decline, particularly at tackle, WR group completely cleaned out by injury, [Travis] Kelce not near the same player," the coordinator said via ESPN. "I thought he had more command of time/score/situation and better fundamentals from within the pocket than ever. He's a one-man army. And no NFL coach wants to deal with him. Complete dawg. No one like him. Maybe [Joe] Burrow, but Burrow isn't as dangerous as a player." Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick MahomesMark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images So despite Patrick's stats not being as eye catching as Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen, the "fear" that Mahomes instils into defenses is alive and well. Advertisement Plus, for all the reasons that the coordinator laid out, could we expect a bounce-back from the Chiefs this season? There's every reason to suggest so, and it seems that Mahomes has gotten better at different parts of his game as he enters Year 9. While some doubt Mahomes and the Chiefs in 2025, the anonymous coordinator still believes that Patrick is the gold standard when it comes to how defenses have to try multiple things to stop him. And now with a fully healthy supporting cast, the 2025 Chiefs might just be ready to make their doubters eat a slice of humble pie.
