Nagaland Cabinet to discuss Centre's directive on creation of frontier territory: Minister
The Nagaland government will hold a cabinet-level meeting on Wednesday (July 30, 2025) to deliberate on the Centre's directive to resolve pending issues related to the demand for creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton said. The development follows the third Tripartite High-Level Committee meeting held on July 23 in New Delhi, attended by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Nagaland government, and representatives of the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO), which has been demanding separate statehood since 2010. 'We have a cabinet meeting tomorrow, and we will discuss the matter there. We shall also discuss with the ENPO leaders tomorrow,' Mr. Patton told reporters here on the sidelines of an official programme. During the New Delhi meeting, several contentious issues were reportedly resolved, barring a few pending ones from the Nagaland government side, ENPO had said in a statement on July 25. The Centre subsequently directed the state government to resolve the pending issues within a fortnight, it said. ENPO, the apex organisation representing eight tribes across six districts – Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Noklak, and Shamator – has been demanding separate statehood since 2010, citing 'decades of neglect in governance and development'. In April, the organisation had announced a temporary suspension of its statehood demand and agreed to the Centre's proposal for a certain degree of autonomy under the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) framework.

Ex-Donegal boss reveals the one player who must be at his best in All-Ireland Final against Kerry
And preventing the ball from entering his net is only one of a list of duties that the modest and unassuming Patton will be expected to fulfil as his team set their sights on the ultimate glory. The introduction of the new playing rules have added to goalkeepers' responsibilities but Patton is certainly not weighed down by the burden with which he is confronted. With the spotlight falling fairly and squarely on goalkeepers' kick-outs now and their brief in taking long-range frees including 'Fifties', the players wearing the No.1 shirt can find themselves immersed in non-stop action in certain games. Patton is aware that Kerry will be on a goal hunt on Sunday just as they were in their Semi-Final against Meath when they totted up 3-26 to their opponents' 0-15 but this time round they might find scoring rather more difficult given Donegal's rigid defensive set-up. Former Donegal manager Declan Bonner is convinced, though, that Patton can flourish on this occasion given his hunger for success. 'There is no doubt that Shaun is a very accomplished goalkeeper. He took time to get adjusted to the position but he is on top of his game right now,' maintains Bonner. 'He will have a big part to play for Donegal against a Kerry side which will be keen to ripple the net.' His view is shared by current boss Jim McGuinness and every member of the Donegal squad. 'We have played 10 Championship matches within a restricted period and this has certainly shown that we can cope with pressure,' he says. 'We are hoping that we can keep things tight at the back and come out on the right side.' Patton's goal-kicks and free kicks will be tested to the full tomorrow but given his ice-cool demeanour and accuracy they are likely to prove Donegal's first line of attack in their bid to unhinge their opponents' defence. If Donegal are taking all possible steps to avert conceding a goal – or goals – Shane Ryan will again be between the posts for the Kingdom charged with keeping a clean sheet. Given that in Jason Foley and Gavin White the Kingdom possess two of the best defenders in the country, Donegal might just have to dig deep into their skills set to put scores on the board.

'Kickout battle is going to be huge' All Star 'keeper on Ryan-Patton match-up
For all the revolution that the new rules have brought to football, the most profound has been around the kickout. And so, in an All-Ireland final that is exceptionally difficult to call, it's reasonable to advance the theory that, for all the brilliance of the likes of David Clifford and Michael Murphy in either attack, the respective goalkeepers will wield the greatest influence on the outcome. Shaun Patton is hailed as one of the leading netminders in the game, arguably the best, and his talents will be exposed to final day for the first time this Sunday. It may be a surprise to many that the Donegal 'keeper has yet to win an All Star, though that's largely down to his county's failure to reach the latter stage of the Championship for most of his inter-county career, which is now in its eighth season. This week, former Kerry star Marc Ó Sé stated that 'if we can stop Patton, we've a great chance – we've one hand on the cup', citing the length and accuracy of his restarts. Ryan, meanwhile, despite winning an All-Ireland and All Star in 2022, doesn't quite command the same profile as other goalkeepers like Patton, Stephen Cluxton, Rory Beggan and Niall Morgan. 'Shane, in my opinion, is totally underrated all round as a goalkeeper,' says Tyrone 'keeper Morgan. 'He's rarely talked about in terms of the top 'keepers in Ireland when he's consistently been there the last three or four years. It's just Kerry always seem to be talked about in their attacking sense.' Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Morgan (Image: Mandatory Credit ©INPHO/James Crombie) Ahead of the final, Ryan pointed out how the new rules have forced goalkeepers to lower their expectations on kickouts, saying that while a 65/70% retention rate would have been just about acceptable last year, 'this year you would bite a fella's hand off for it'. 'It's very difficult to accept that you're not getting anywhere close to 100% anymore,' Morgan admits. 'It used to be that teams would have stood off for a good few of the kickouts, obviously with the old rules that doesn't happen anymore so most of them are a contest. 'I would totally agree that if you're winning 65-70% of your kickouts, you would more than take it but the big thing is what you're doing with the kickouts after you win them and Kerry and Donegal are both exceptionally good at turning those kickout wins into scores.' In their runaway win over Meath, Donegal mined 2-13 from Patton's kickout on his 100th appearance for the county and, while Sunday's game is virtually certain to be much more evenly contested, it's easy to see why Ó Sé places such weight on curbing his influence. Patton had an uncharacteristic meltdown in the first half of Donegal's quarter-final win over Monaghan, but Morgan doesn't believe that Kerry should draw too much encouragement from that given that he wasn't long back from an ankle injury. Donegal's Shaun Patton (Image: ©INPHO/Tommy Dickson) 'I know he had a bit of a knock in the Ulster final and didn't play against us in the group stage either so I think that was a case of getting him recovered and I don't think there's a chink in either of their armours if I'm being honest.' Somewhat reminiscent of David Clarke during Mayo's run to the 2017 final, Ryan has come to Kerry's rescue several times this campaign with that fundamental goalkeeping requirement that has almost become incidental these days - one-on-one saves. But while Morgan says that both are 'absolutely brilliant shot-stoppers', ultimately their influence on Sunday will still be felt most profoundly from what they produce off the tee. 'I think the kickout battle is going to be huge. I sort of look at it, over the whole game, over 50% of the kickouts in terms of both yours and the opposition's is going to set yourself up for a strong foothold in the game, it gives you the opportunity to launch your attacks and it's probably the time of the game when the other team isn't set up defensively, it gives you the opportunity to maybe get a goal or a bigger score. 'I think if you stand off either team on the kickouts, it's really dangerous. Giving them possession of the ball is what both teams want, they want to set things up and launch their attacks from deep. 'We saw it against Kerry, especially in the first half where we obviously put pressure on Seán O'Shea and Paudie Clifford but they were still more than capable of getting the ball up to pitch to David to do the damage and in the second half obviously, whenever David wasn't as much in the game then Joe O'Connor came into it so it'd be dangerous for either team to give up possession like that. 'Both 'keepers are key weapons for their teams and I expect whatever one of them can get on top at the weekend will set up their team really well.'

Nagaland on high alert amid Assams eviction drive against illegal settlers
Agency: PTI Kohima, Jul 24 (PTI) In response to Assam's ongoing eviction drives targeting alleged illegal settlers, the Nagaland government has issued an advisory and placed all districts on high alert to prevent the possible influx of displaced people into the state. A notification issued by the office of the Commissioner of Nagaland instructed all deputy commissioners to maintain heightened vigilance, enforce proactive measures, and closely monitor border areas and transit points to safeguard the state's demographic integrity and ensure law and order. Nagaland shares a long interstate boundary of around 512 km with Assam. This border runs through multiple districts on both sides. On Wednesday, authorities in Niuland district reported turning back over 200 vehicles suspected of transporting individuals evicted from Assam. These trucks, carrying household belongings, were stopped at multiple check posts, and the occupants were questioned by local authorities, security personnel, and volunteer groups. Following these developments, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton held a coordination meeting on Thursday in Niuland district. The meeting, attended by MLA Achumbemo Kikon, included stakeholders such as the deputy commissioner of Niuland, Dimapur's commissioner of police, heads of departments, councillors of Niuland Town Council, members of Niuland Town Students' Union, gaon burahs (village headmen), and other leaders. The focus was on preparedness in view of the ongoing eviction drive across the Assam border. 'With concerns mounting over a possible influx of illegal immigrants into Nagaland, it is heartening to see how united and vigilant the people have been. I deeply appreciate the efforts of the district administration, gaon burahs, students, youth bodies, and volunteers who are maintaining round-the-clock vigilance," Patton stated on X. Highlighting Niuland's vulnerability as a porous border area, the deputy CM urged NGOs and local leaders to remain alert and proactive, and report any unfamiliar settlement activity within their jurisdictions. Patton also ordered the immediate deployment of additional security forces not only in Niuland but across all border areas of Nagaland that adjoin Assam. Dimapur Commissioner of Police Kevithuto Sophie told PTI that a high-level team led by Deputy CM Patton, accompanied by MLA Kikon, Wokha SP, Wokha DC, Dimapur CP, and Niuland DC, visited the Assam-Nagaland border areas under Wokha and Niuland districts during the day. He said that additional Indian Reserve Battalion forces have been deployed along the Ralan sector, and if needed, more will be sent to other border areas including Niuland. He added that key locations such as bus and train stations will also be placed under strict surveillance. Meanwhile, various local organisations have voiced concerns over the possible influx. The Western Sümi Students' Union (WSSU) warned that evicted settlers may attempt to encroach upon Naga-inhabited border areas and called for enhanced security and community vigilance. Additionally, the Konyak Students' Union has mobilised volunteers in Mon district to verify documents such as Inner Line Permit (ILP) and has recommended a temporary suspension of ILP issuance to ensure stricter scrutiny.
