Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Public resistance to Time of Day (ToD) or smart meters is mounting with many complaining of technical glitches. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The MSEDCL in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar zone, decided to involve school students to encourage consumers to join its 'Go-Green' scheme, which offers discounts to residents opting for paperless bills. As part of the scheme, consumers who choose to receive bills through email are given a discount of Rs120. "Students registering at least 50 consumers for the 'Go-Green' scheme will be awarded special certificates. Schools that register the greatest number of consumers will also receive a special honour," said Pawankumar Kachhot, MSEDCL chief engineer, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar zone. Kachhot said the scheme aims at conserving the environment and saving money for both consumers and the state power utility. "Interested students from classes VII to IX from all schools in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna districts will be roped in as ambassadors of the 'Go-Green' scheme. We are in touch with local education department authorities to reach out to school principals to ensure maximum participation," Kachhot said. The deadline for student registration is June 30. "Our initiative will also make students realise that reducing the use of paper and switching to effective alternatives can help save trees and the environment as a whole," Kachhot said. Meanwhile, power utility officials said the payment and billing history can be accessed using the website or mobile application. "Immediately after the electricity bill is generated, the soft copy of it is sent to the consumers participating in the Go-Green scheme via email through a computerized system. Along with this, information about the electricity bill is also provided through SMS. Therefore, it has become even easier to pay the bill immediately online with a prompt payment discount," authorities said.
