It was all about being confident,' Pawar said. 'With my sets and their swings, we were cautious … I was setting a bit off the net. Second set and on, we played with much more confidence. I was setting tighter which my hitters liked, more in tempo. My hitters took more aggressive swings, which helped.' 'We can be a really great team, and it came down to, no matter what happens, we need to smile, high-five, look at each other, and say we have each other's backs. Jeweller accuses staff of 5cr gold theft

Pune: A prominent city jeweller from Sadashiv Peth lodged a complaint with the Vishrambaug police on Sunday, accusing one of his employees of stealing gold ornaments worth Rs4.89 crore in phases between April 1 and May 26. The manager of the shop, aged 37 and a resident of Sangvi, lodged a complaint with the police against the employee on Sunday. Senior inspector Vijaymala Pawar of Vishrambaug police told TOI, "We detained the employee of the store, who is a resident of Kothrud, on Monday evening for questioning. We are yet to make any recovery in the case." Pawar said, "The jewellery store manager told us in his complaint that the employee was given the task to man the counters and to show ornaments to customers. Also, he was given the task to shift the jewellery to the storeroom within the shop." "The employee stole a piece of jewellery every time he showed it to the customers," the complaint stated. "He also picked up the jewellery while shifting them from the shop to the storeroom," Pawar said. "The store conducted an audit of the jewellery earlier this month, and the theft came to light. All the jewellery handled by the employee was missing. Following this, the jeweller studied the CCTV footage of the shop and decided to lodge a complaint with the police," Pawar said.

‘Made a mistake of giving financial benefit to all women': Ajit Pawar on Ladki Bahin scheme; Uddhav Sena cries voter bribe

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Monday admitted that the state government made a "mistake" in extending financial benefits to all applicants of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana without sufficient scrutiny, attributing the lapse to time constraints ahead of last year's assembly elections. 'We made a mistake of giving the financial benefit to all women (applicants). We had little time to scrutinise the applications and identify the ineligible ones. At that time, elections were supposed to be announced in two to three months,' news agency PTI reported Pawar as saying. The Ladki Bahin scheme, launched in August 2024, offers Rs 1,500 per month to eligible women aged 21 to 65 years with an annual income below Rs 2.5 lakh. Though it was designed to empower poor women, scrutiny revealed thousands of ineligible recipients, including over 2,200 government employees. Pawar, who also heads the state's finance department, clarified that the aid already deposited will not be withdrawn. 'When the scheme was unveiled, the government had appealed that only eligible women apply but that didn't happen. A scrutiny is being conducted. Only the needy women will get the monthly payout,' he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Truque caseiro noturno eficaz contra a papada (faça hoje mesmo) Revista & Saúde Saiba Mais Undo His admission drew strong reactions from the opposition. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut demanded Pawar's resignation, accusing him of enabling a misuse of public funds to gain electoral advantage. Raut said the finance department had presided over a 'loot of government money for the sake of votes'. Earlier, Maharashtra minister Aditi Tatkare confirmed the government had disqualified 2,289 ineligible government employees after examining nearly two lakh applications. In a recent post on X, she assured the public that such scrutiny would continue regularly. 'After realising this, such beneficiaries are not being given the benefit of the scheme,' she wrote. The Ladki Bahin scheme was credited with boosting the Mahayuti alliance's performance in the November 2024 assembly elections. However, it has also led to budgetary strain. Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat conceded that the government was under pressure, saying, 'It is a reality that the monthly amount of Rs 1,500 cannot be raised to Rs 2,100.' He added that the scheme would continue even if it required the state to borrow funds. Shirsat also criticised the finance department for diverting funds from his ministry without notice. In March, he alleged that Rs 7,000 crore had been slashed from the Social Justice Department's budget, and on Monday, he called for a law to protect such departments from arbitrary cuts. According to official guidelines, beneficiaries must meet income and residency criteria and provide Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Newly married women can present a marriage certificate if their name does not appear on a ration card. While the scheme aims to support women's economic independence, the government now faces growing scrutiny over its execution.

Police install 125 Internet Protocol speakers in Pune city to make announcements, regulate traffic

1 2 3 Pune: The city police have installed 125 Internet Protocol (IP) speakers on roads and at junctions to make announcements related to regulating vehicular movement and emergencies. A central control room would monitor this system through CCTV cameras. The system will help police alert citizens about traffic situations on roads and inform them about inundated roads or any other emergencies, such as accidents, tree-falling incidents, or issues like processions or festivals. The police can also use the speakers to divert traffic in case of these emergencies. "The plan is to gradually increase the number of IP speakers to 500 in the next few years," said assistant commissioner of police Vivek Pawar. "This is a handy system. So far, we have covered all major roads and junctions in the city. Gradually, we will introduce these speakers in other parts of the city," he said. All the speakers are designed to address police personnel on the roads as well as the public. "We can monitor the actions of the police personnel on the ground and issue them orders. It will help handle the law and order situation," Pawar said. The IP speaker system will prove useful during festivals such as Ashadhi wari, Ganeshotsav, and New Year celebrations, among others. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like CFD: Invertir $100 con IA podría devolverte un segundo salario Digital Group Prueba ahora Undo It will also help police personnel facilitate the movement of emergency as well as VIP vehicles. Seven NCP MLAs join NDPP in Nagaland: Ajit Pawar cites ‘discontent', rules out Anti-Defection Law

In a major political setback for Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), all the seven NCP MLAs in Nagaland have defected to the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) of Nagaland. Joining of the NCP MLAs have increased the strength of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio's party in the state assembly, giving the NDPP a clear majority on its own. Speaking to the media on Sunday, Ajit Pawar confirmed the development and acknowledged that the seven MLAs had been expressing discontent over the lack of development work and political traction in the state. 'About two to three months ago, the seven MLAs from our Nagaland unit had come to meet me. They told me that they are facing issues there. no work was being done for them on the ground,' Pawar said. 'I even spoke to the Chief Minister there regarding their concerns. Yes, there was discontent among them, that much is true,' he said further adding that he will take more information on it. 'Over the past two days, I was unwell, so don't have much information about it. but now I have begun gathering more detailed information about the developments in Nagaland,' he said. Pawar also clarified that the anti-defection law would not apply in this case, as all seven legislators have defected collectively, thus fulfilling the legal condition for exemption under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution. 'Since all seven MLAs have joined the ruling party together, the anti-defection law does not come into effect,' he noted. With the defection of all the seven MLAs Ajit Pawar-led NCP will have no representation in the Nagaland Assembly.
