Pedersen: Arab and Foreign Investments on the Way to Syria - Jordan News

UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, confirmed the existence of an international consensus on the need to support Syria and ensure the success of the new government in achieving stability and economic development. اضافة اعلان In an interview with Syrian Al-Ikhbariya TV on Friday, Pedersen praised the decisions by the United States and the European Union to lift sanctions imposed on Syria, noting that such steps provide a real opportunity for economic progress, although they require time and further developments to take full effect. The UN envoy explained that following the easing of sanctions, many investors from Arab countries, as well as from Turkey, Europe, and the United States, have expressed interest in investing in Syria. He emphasized that progress in the security file is essential for advancing economic development. Pedersen noted that more than 17 million Syrians are still in need of humanitarian assistance. He also stated that the United Nations is closely monitoring the details surrounding the lifting of sanctions, especially those related to the humanitarian provisions of the Caesar Act. He called for the development of a clear regulatory framework to encourage investment and establish a secure economic environment. He stressed that 'stability is a fundamental condition for any economic or political transformation,' adding that while some aspects of security have been stabilized, the UN will continue to support the political process. Pedersen affirmed that cooperation between the United Nations and the Syrian government is very good, with the government fulfilling its duties to enhance security and stability across the country. Pedersen also pointed out that Israel continues to violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and carries out repeated attacks on Syrian territory, saying that there is no justification for these assaults, which must stop immediately. Pedersen wins Giro stage 13 as Del Toro extends lead

Mads Pedersen won the 13th stage of the Giro d'Italia yesterday as Isaac Del Toro maintained his lead in the battle for the overall title. Lidl-Trek rider Pedersen burst to victory in the final few hundred metres, holding off Wout van Aert in a thrilling end to a punchy 180 kilometres of riding from Rovigo to Vicenza. 'I went a bit earlier than I really wanted to but on such a hard uphill final like this sometimes it's okay to go early because everyone has burning legs the last 100 meters,' said Pedersen. Pedersen claimed his fourth stage of this year's Giro while wearing the sprint jersey, closing in on the six wins Tadej Pogacar racked up on his way to triumph at last year's edition of the Italian Grand Tour. 'I'm just happy with this one and adding another 50 points to the 'ciclomino' (sprint) jersey so let's see how it goes,' added Pedersen.

'I'm just happy with this one and adding another 50 points to the 'ciclomino' (sprint) jersey, so let's see how it goes," added Pederson. 'It's still far to Rome, but now I'm just overwhelmed about winning again." Del Toro came in third and leads his UAE teammate Juan Ayuso by 38 seconds in the general classification, extending the gap over his title rivals. Christian Scaroni was the last of the breakaway riders to be eventually caught with 10km left, on the second of two laps to Vicenza, setting up an engaging finale with a tough climb at the finish. Romain Bardet made a bold attack with 9km to go, pulling fifteen seconds away alongside Pedersen's teammate Mathias Vacek. Both were caught in the final kilometre by the peloton, and Pedersen rocketed away from the pack on a tough final climb to the line. Saturday's 14th stage is another largely flat run from nearby Treviso, 195km to Nova Gorica across Italy's border with Slovenia. A 16km climb awaits the overall pretenders on Sunday, albeit 20km from the finish line, but it will provide a hint of what is to come in the final week. The time gaps across the top 10 riders should be shaken up from stage 16 with five monster climbs and a summit finish as the 21-day marathon enters the Alps. This is followed by another mountain run that is an invitation to the downhill daredevils with two huge descents on stage 17. The decider might be stage 19 with another five-mountain slog, while day 20 has a giant 18.5km climb at a 9.5 per cent gradient to over 2000m altitude. Team UAE's Ayuso and Del Toro have time, youth and a strong posse in hand, but four former winners are lurking with intent. Pure climber Simon Yates of Visma is only 42 seconds behind Ayuso, but Richard Carapaz of EF, Primoz Roglic of Red Bull and Egan Bernal of Ineos all have impressive records on their side too in a wide-open final week. Del Toro adds 5 seconds to his Giro lead and Pedersen wins his fourth stage

VICENZA, Italy — Mexican rider Isaac Del Toro keeps on adding to his Giro d'Italia lead — even if it's just a few seconds per day. Del Toro's third-place finish in the 13th stage on Friday, which had a short but steep uphill finale, extended his lead over UAE Team Emirates teammate Juan Ayuso by five seconds. Danish rider Mads Pedersen claimed his fourth stage win of the race with a burst of acceleration up to the Monte Berico sanctuary. Wout van Aert crossed second with the same time as Pedersen, and Del Toro finished third, two seconds behind but three seconds ahead of all the other overall contenders. For the second straight day, Del Toro also picked up a two-second bonus during an intermediate sprint with 10 kilometers to go, while Ayuso picked up four seconds. In the overall standings, Del Toro leads Ayuso by 38 seconds, with Antonio Tiberi 1:18 back in third. Simon Yates was fourth, 1:20 behind, and Primoz Roglic fifth, 1:35 behind. Del Toro became the first Mexican to lead the Giro on Sunday when he finished second. 'All the riders from the top 20 are crazily strong. They are Grand Tours winners, podium finishers, etc. and I'm the new guy here,' Del Toro said. 'Maybe on paper I'm not the favorite but I have to be strong and listen to the guys in the team.' He's riding his second Grand Tour after placing 36th in the Spanish Vuelta last year. The 180-kilometer (112-mile) route from Rovigo to Vicenza was mostly flat — until the finale, which featured two ascents to Monte Berico, with an average gradient of 7.1% with the finishing meters at 12%. Pedersen also won Stages 1, 3 and 5. The mostly flat 14th stage on Saturday follows a 195-kilometer (121-mile) route from Treviso over the border into Slovenia with a finish in Nova Gorica. Then on Sunday, there's a big climb up Monte Grappa at the stage's midpoint. The Giro ends in Rome on June 1.
