New group home to provide support for youth in Prince Albert

Prince Albert Outreach will now be operating a group home named in her honour. 'It's such an honour,' said Rubin. 'I've been gone for almost ten years, and you kind of think you're forgotten. No one remembers who you are, so it's a real honour to do this. It's exciting to see more happening for the youth in Prince Albert; this continues to be more and more for the kids.' Peggy's Compass Home will provide short-term residential care and mental health and addictions supports for five youth ages 12-18. The home will take a youth-centered approach where youth will work with staff on their goals and case plans. 'Maybe we can start with a small house for five kids,' said Rubin about her hopes for the project. (Jasmine Pelletier/CTV News) 'Well, maybe we can open another one, and I think that's what you really need. This community gets bigger, and Saskatchewan gets bigger, that you really need more and more services for kids because they are our future.' Prince Albert Outreach executive director Bill Chow says the next step will be getting youth and staff into the home so they can build a routine. 'It's very exciting,' said Chow. 'It's been exciting this whole time. The staff are really excited about being able to host some youth and help them on their positive path to hopefully becoming better.' The province says it will provide $800,000 in annual operating funding for Peggy's Compass. The province funded the development of two other homes for youth in need of additional supports, one in Regina and one in Saskatoon to a total $2.4 million.
