Amazing Milky Way images captured over Cornwall
Stunning images of the Milky Way have been captured over the Cornish coast by an amateur Nuttall, 52, was on holiday in West Cornwall from his home in the Midlands, when he managed to take the pictures at Porthgwarra beach near said he spent time researching the location before waiting for a clear night and a new of all, he said, he was helped by the light pollution-free skies over west Cornwall. "And yeah, the Milky Way looks fantastic."A lot of people say that you have quite a lot of cloudy skies and a bit of rain in Cornwall, so it's quite a rarity to get clear skies especially."I had three nights in a row while I was down there, so it was a bit of a bonus really." Mr Nuttall posted the images onto social media and said he was surprised how popular they have said: "I put them on a local Facebook page. "Obviously it went viral on there, and a lot of people, you know obviously liked it, and commenting on it and all that, saying how fantastic they were."

Britain's largest seawater lido marks 90 years
Swimmers have dived in to mark the 90th anniversary of a "special" Cornish seaside lido. A celebration event was held on Saturday at Penzance's Jubilee Pool, which first opened its gates in May 1935 as part of King George V's Silver Jubilee. During the event, people were encouraged to wear vintage swimwear at the pool - which is Britain's largest seawater lido - and a group of 90 partygoers jumped into the water all at once to mark the occasion. Nicola Murdoch, the pool's chief executive, said it was an honour to be able to celebrate the milestone at the site on Battery Road. Ms Murdoch said it was a special day at the pool, with other activities at the party including surfing and water polo demonstrations and live music. She added she was glad the early morning rain had disappeared in time for the main event, but felt even a bit of wet weather would not have dampened the atmosphere. "It's just an honour to be here on a big day in the pool's history," Ms Murdoch said. Ms Murdoch said the pool had had to evolve throughout its existence in order to stay open and had been "extremely hard hit" by the weather and elements at various points. "It's got so much history and so many stories woven into here," Ms Murdoch said. "It's beautiful and stunning." Two of the swimmers who took part in the festivities were mother and daughter duo Lesley and Tamsyn Nowman, who regularly use the lido. They said the pool was a significant place for their family as Lesley's mother had visited the site the day after it opened in 1935. Tamsyn added: "It's such a lovely event to bring all the community together and to celebrate such a special place that we're really lucky to have on our doorstep." Cornwall's Jubilee Pool marks 90th anniversary
Penzance's Jubilee Pool is celebrating its 90th Art Deco lido, which opened its gates in May 1935 as part of King George V's Silver Jubilee, said celebrations would include a historical exhibition, live music, meet the mermaids and a birthday Susan Stuart said the pool, which is Britain's largest seawater lido, had been at the "heart of Penzance's identity" for nine decades."The pool has weathered storms both literal and figurative – from wartime challenges to devastating winter damage – yet thanks to the community's unwavering support, it continues to thrive as a beloved swimming destination and architectural treasure," she said. Nicola Murdoch, CEO, said the celebration honoured the lido's "rich heritage"."As we look toward our centenary, we remain committed to ensuring this extraordinary facility continues to serve generations to come," she to the event have been encouraged to wear 1930's inspired Murdoch said: "Dust off those vintage costumes, striped bathing suits, and glamorous poolside fashion – or come decked in your most colourful festival gear. "Let's make this a visual celebration as stunning as our Art Deco gem."Organisers said celebrations would take place between 11:00 and 21:30 BST.

Power cuts plunge parts of Penzance into darkness
Hundreds of buildings have lost power in a Cornish seaside town following two separate Grid said a power outage was reported just before 19:55 BST in several areas of Penzance town centre including Market Jew Street and New Street which left 712 properties without company added a second outage had been reported just after 20:00 which affected 175 properties on streets including Adelaide Street, Leskinnick Terrace and Penare said engineers were working to restore power supplies and apologised for any inconvenience caused. Long-serving winger Wedlake to leave Cornish Pirates
Cornish Pirates winger Robin Wedlake is to leave the club at the end of the 30-year-old has scored 46 tries in 120 appearances during two spells at the Mennaye. The former Plymouth Albion player left the club in the summer of 2023 to join then-Championship champions Jersey Reds, but re-joined Pirates later that year after the island side folded "After seven incredible seasons with the Cornish Pirates, I've made the difficult decision to move on and embrace a new chapter in my life and career," Wedlake told the club website. "Representing this club has been a great privilege – both on and off the field."I'm immensely proud of what we've achieved over the years and deeply grateful to both Gavin (Cattle) and Alan (Paver), staff, team-mates, and most of all, the supporters, who have made my time in Penzance so special. "The passion and unwavering support of the Pirates family will always stay with me."Joint head coach Gavin Cattle said: "Robin has been a very good servant to the club who, as a big and athletic physical specimen, has scored some outstanding tries in a Pirates shirt."Also, a good man off the field, we sincerely thank him for his contributions." The news comes as young Cornish forwards Milo Hallam and Barnaby Elderkin have both agreed deals to stay at the club next has played twice this season while Elderkin made his debut in the Premiership Rugby Cup.
