Hugh Jackman's Wife Deborra-Lee Furness Files for Divorce Amid ‘Betrayal'—How Will They Split Their Enormous Property Portfolio?
Hollywood heavyweight Hugh Jackman's estranged wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, has officially filed for divorce, while speaking out about the 'traumatic journey of betrayal' she has faced—as news emerged that the actor is preparing to move in with his new partner, Sutton Foster. Furness, 69, filed paperwork in a New York City court through her lawyer, Elena Karabatos, according to People. It comes nearly two years after she and Jackman, 56, announced that their 27-year marriage had come to an end. The outlet reports that Karabatos submitted details of a settlement that Jackman and her client have already reached, as well as information regarding their health care and child support. Jackman and Furness—who tied the knot in 1996 after one year of dating—have two children: son Oscar and daughter Ava. According to the documents, the divorce is uncontested and will require only a sign-off from a judge. 'There was some back and forth regarding this financial agreement, but in the end, [Deborra] got what she believed she deserved. Both are coming out of this financially secure,' an unnamed insider told the Daily Mail. 'They have worked out the details in advance, and everything is ironed out in terms of a settlement, alimony, and the expenses for the future of their children.' In a statement issued to the publication, Furness made a thinly veiled dig at Jackman, voicing her sympathy for anyone who has suffered a similarly 'traumatic' wound. 'My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal. It's a profound wound that cuts deep, however I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us,' she said. 'This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage. I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose. 'It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.' The news comes after Australian media outlet New Idea reported that Foster and Jackman had moved into his New York City penthouse together, with an anonymous insider claiming to the publication that Furness was upset that another woman was making herself at home in the dwelling that she had 'poured her soul into.' 'They're inseparable. [Foster is] slowly migrating her things over to Hugh's place,' the insider revealed. The insider further claimed that Furness is worried Jackman is moving too quickly in his new romance. 'She wants him to be happy—he deserves it and so do the kids—but Hugh's completely green when it comes to dating. She's concerned he's leaping into living with someone else way too soon,' the source went on. 'It's almost unreal [for Furness] seeing Sutton reap the rewards of all those years of her supporting Hugh,' another insider said. Although details of Furness and Jackman's divorce agreement have not yet been made public, they have several pricey shared assets—including several homes that were purchased during their marriage. In 2008, the couple snapped up a stunning condo in New York City's West Village neighborhood for $21 million. The three-floor property offers 11,000 square feet of living space. It comes with five bedrooms, a spiral staircase, an exercise room, and more. The couple listed the home in 2022 for $38.9 million after picking up a penthouse in Chelsea. According to Architectural Digest, it's unclear whether the property was ever sold. In 2015, Jackman and Furness purchased a 2.5-acre property in East Hampton, NY, for $3.5 million and spent six years transforming it into an opulent abode. Situated by the water, the property boasts three bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a guesthouse with a bedroom and two bathrooms. It measures 7,300 square feet and features floor-to-ceiling glass doors and a stunning swimming pool. It is unclear who will gain ownership of this dwelling after the divorce. A year after purchasing their East Hampton home, the couple splashed out $5.9 million on a property in Australia. It is believed that Jackman will take over the three-bed, two-bath, six-balcony home following their divorce. One year before they ended their marriage, the couple snapped up a Chelsea penthouse for $21.25 million. It sprawls over two floors and measures 4,700 square feet. It comes with 3,700 square feet of outdoor space. Jackman took sole ownership of this home, which is the property that he and Foster are reportedly residing in together. Meanwhile, Foster filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years in 2024—sending the rumor mill into overdrive with rampant speculation that she was embroiled in a romance with Jackman. Foster filed for an uncontested divorce from screenwriter Ted Griffin on Oct. 22, according to the New York Post, just months after she sold her historic Gilded Age estate in New York for $2 million. The 'Younger' actress, who appeared alongside Jackman in the smash-hit Broadway show 'The Music Man,' had purchased the stunning home in Tuxedo Park in 2021 for $1.6 million. She listed the seven-bedroom, five-bathroom property for $2.2 million in December 2023. The decision to sell the home—which Foster once described as 'magical'—cannot have been an easy one, particularly as she once told Architectural Digest that the house 'felt like that home you want your kid to grow up in,' adding that she could see herself, Griffin, and their daughter, Emily, spending many a Christmas and holiday there. Foster listed the home the same month that rumors about her romance with Jackman began to swirl. Multiple reports claimed that the pair's on-stage chemistry turned into a real-life relationship while they were starring in the wildly successful Broadway show 'The Music Man,' which ran from December 2021 until January 2023. Interestingly, a few months before she took on her role in the show, Foster unloaded a charming Los Angeles A-frame for $1.5 million in October 2021. According to People, Furness officially filed for divorce earlier this week nearly two years after their split. In a statement shared with the outlet on Wednesday, Furness reflected on the emotional toll of the breakup and her journey through betrayal and healing. Furness shared that this belief helped her navigate the end of a nearly three-decade-long marriage. "I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose," she continued. "It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom." She went on to say that she remains "grateful" for the relationship and stressed that the end of it was not personal. Hoda Kotb is the new Kelly Clarkson? Nope, but she spills other secrets in ‘Today' return
Will Hoda Kotb replace Kelly Clarkson as a talk-show host, giving rise to 'Hoda in the Afternoon'? The retired morning-show anchor quickly shut down that rumor Wednesday when she popped back up on 'Today' for the first time since her January departure from the show. 'Do y'all think — I want to ask y'all a real question — do you think, if I ever came back to TV, do you know where the only place I would ever come back to is?' Kotb asked her former colleagues after replacement co-host Craig Melvin inquired about that rumor. 'Right here. This is the spot.' 'Delete, not true,' she said of the Clarkson rumor. Something that is true? Kotb revealed that she left 'Today' in part to take care of 6-year-old daughter Hope, who was diagnosed about two years ago with Type 1 diabetes. Previously known as juvenile diabetes because it's most often diagnosed in childhood, the autoimmune disorder can occur in adults as well. Hope's health issues arose more than two years ago, she said. Now the child has to use synthetic insulin regularly to stay well, since her condition prevents insulin production by her pancreas. 'As anyone with a child who has Type 1 [knows], especially a little kid, you're constantly watching, you're constantly monitoring, you're constantly checking, which is what I did all the time when I was [at 'Today'],' she told Melvin and Savannah Guthrie. 'You're distracted.' Hope, however, is just like 'every other kid' except for about five minute at breakfast, lunch, dinner and sometimes overnight, Kotb said. But being there for her daughter had become nonnegotiable, she told People in a story published Wednesday, so 'Today' had to become part of yesterday. No more alarms going off at 3:15 a.m. every morning. Now she sleeps in until 4:30 a.m. She also just launched a new wellness venture, Joy 101. But her children remain her focus. 'I really wanted to and needed to be here to watch over [Hope]. So, whenever she needs anything, and it can happen at night, multiple times, I'm up — I'm up up up,' she said. 'But I would never, ever want Hope to one day grow up and say, 'Oh, my mom left her job because [of me].' It wasn't that alone. But if you look at it cumulatively, it was a part of that decision.' Kotb, 60, and ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman adopted Hope in 2019 and sister Haley in 2017. The couple split up in 2022 but remain friends and co-parents. Hope, Kotb told People, 'is a happy, healthy, rambunctious, amazing kid, and we have to watch her. Diabetes is a part of her, but not all of her. I hope it shapes her but never defines her.'
