UFC 320 Fight Card revealed! Alex Pereira seeks revenge against Magomed Ankalaev in title rematch

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will seek redemption in a highly anticipated rematch against reigning titleholder Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320 on October 4 in Las Vegas. UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the headlining bout, which will be held at T-Mobile Arena, via social media. Pereira (12-3), a former UFC middleweight and multiweight kickboxing champion, emerged as one of MMA's top stars in 2024, thanks to spectacular knockouts of Jamahal Hill, Jirí Procházka , and Khalil Rountree Jr. However, his momentum was halted in March when Ankalaev defeated him by decision at UFC 313, ending his brief title reign at 205 pounds. Yet, Ankalaev (21-1-1), who hails from Dagestan, is expected to enter the rematch as the favorite. The 33-year-old is currently riding a 13-fight unbeaten streak and has firmly established himself as the division's most consistent force. UFC 320's co-main event will feature a bantamweight title clash between champion Merab Dvalishvili (20-4) and top contender Cory Sandhagen (18-5). Dvalishvili is aiming for his third title defense in 2024, having already beaten Umar Nurmagomedov and Sean O'Malley. Live Events Sandhagen, meanwhile, is chasing his first undisputed title after falling short against Petr Yan in a 2021 interim bout. Adding further intrigue, light heavyweight contenders Jirí Procházka and Khalil Rountree Jr. will also square off on the main card, making UFC 320 a can't-miss event for fans.

Magomed Ankalaev, Alex Pereira to rematch in UFC 320 headliner

As expected, Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira will run it back. UFC CEO Dana White on Tuesday announced the rematch for the light heavyweight championship has been officially booked to headline UFC 320 on Oct. 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. White shared the news, along with other big matchups, on Instagram Live. The rematch between Ankalaev (21-1-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC) and Pereira (12-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) has been talked about ever since Ankalaev dethroned Pereira with a close unanimous decision victory to claim the 205-pound title on March 8. In the ensuing months, the two men have feuded on social media, with Ankalaev growing impatient while he waited for Pereira to agree to the rematch. At one point, there appeared to be a rift between Pereira and the UFC brass following a cryptic tweet from Pereira indicating he was considering retirement because the UFC wasn't meeting his requests. Pereira went on to blame the post on his X account being hacked. Prior to losing the title, Pereira, 38, a former middleweight champion, was on a five-fight winning streak that included four consecutive championship bouts. Ankalaev, 33, hasn't tasted defeat since being submitted by Paul Craig in 2018, a stretch that includes 14 UFC appearances.

UFC 320 adds Jiri Prochazka vs. Khalil Rountree

A key light heavyweight matchup has been booked for UFC 320. Former champion Jiri Prochazaka and former title challenger Khalil Rountree will collide in a three-round bout Oct. 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the promotion announced Tuesday. Prochazka (31-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) has lost only to Alex Pereira so far in the UFC. He's 2-1 in his most recent three with a Pereira loss bookended by TKO victories over Aleksandar Rakic and Jamahal Hill. Rountree (14-6 MMA, 10-6 UFC) returned in June to defeat Hill by unanimous decision. The bout was his first following a spirited title bid vs. Pereira. Though Rountree was finished with strikes in Round 4, his success, toughness, and heart was praised around the combat sports world. With the addition, the UFC 320 lineup includes:

Man bought fake no claims bonus for car insurance on Facebook, Cork court told

A Brazilian man who was trying to secure car insurance in Ireland purchased a fake no claims bonus from a Facebook page which he submitted to the insurance company, a district court in Cork has heard. Court presenter Sergeant Eimear O'Connell told Bandon District Court that Claudio Rodrigues Pereira, aged 47 of Emmet Row, Bandon, Co Cork, submitted the false document to Axa Insurance as part of an application for motor insurance in April 2023. Axa made a complaint to gardaí about the application and Pereira was arrested and charged with using a false instrument under the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001. The court was told that Pereira had three previous convictions, two of which were for using a false instrument arising from a similar incident where he had applied to Liberty Insurance also in 2023. On that occasion he had bought a false Portuguese driving licence from a Facebook page. Defence solicitor Plunkett Taaffe said that Pereira had been living in Ireland for four years and had a full Brazilian licence when he arrived. He said that his client had been 'duped' by the Facebook page offering licenses and no claims bonuses and was 'very contrite.' Mr Taaffe said that the offending occurred over a short period of time and that his client was now taking lessons with a view to obtaining an Irish driving licence. Judge Joanne Carroll said that the offence was 'a terrible deception' that was clearly premeditated and that Pereira was 'trying to bypass Irish law while a visitor to this country.' She added: 'If you go on to a Facebook page to buy a licence or other documents you are setting out to deceive, the question is can this man stay out of prison?' Claudio Rodrigues Pereira was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for 18 months. This article is funded by the Courts Reporting Scheme

Magomed Ankalaev's manager: Alex Pereira 'engineered' by UFC, never should've been champ

Ali Abdelaziz thinks the UFC intentionally tried to keep Magomed Ankalaev away from Alex Pereira. Pereira (12-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) defended his light heavyweight title three times until he ran into Ankalaev (21-1-1 MMA, 12-1-1 UFC), who dethroned him at UFC 313 in March. Abdelaziz thinks opponents Jamahal Hill, Jiri Prochazka, and Khalil Rountree were tailor-made for Pereira. "Alex Pereira was engineered," Abdelaziz said on the "Pound 4 Pound" podcast with ex-UFC champs Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo. "UFC has some of the best matchmakers in the world. They have the best minds. Like you, (Usman): You should have been a champion three fights before you fought for the title. It was engineered not to get you there because of your style of fighting. ... But when I got (Usman) and Dana (White) to sit in one room, everything changed. I think Alex is a good fighter. I think he's a real fighter. He's a lion. But in a way, Ankalaev should have been champion two, three years ago. "Alex would have never been a champion, and I'll tell you something again: If they fight again – and they will fight again probably in October – it's going to be worse for Alex. Now Ankalaev has the confidence. He understands. (Pereira) was a scary guy touching people and knocking them out, but he fought a whole bunch of mediocre strikers. None of these guys was a high-level striker. Ankalaev, he can wrestle, he can grapple, and he can strike. Ankalaev is more of a striker than a grappler, and we've seen, he hurt him in the fight. Alex didn't hurt him." Abdelaziz used another client of his as an example, undefeated Movsar Evloev, to point out Ankalaev's prolonged route to the title. Ankalaev is expected to have an immediate rematch against Pereira for his first title defense. "It's Ankalaev's time," Abdelaziz said. "It should have been Ankalaev's time. Hunter Campbell, Mick Maynard, all of the UFC, they was all sandbagging him. They knew he was coming, and they was praying he'd lose."
