KUALA LUMPUR – The Proton Saga, Malaysia's first national car, celebrates its 40th anniversary today, marking four decades since its official launch on July 9, 1985.
Introduced by then-Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the Proton Saga symbolised Malaysia's ambition to develop a domestic automotive industry, spearheaded by the establishment of Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (Proton). Dr Mahathir inspected the final stage of Proton Saga production along the factory assembly line.
