Man found dead in Petaluma; investigation underway
The Brief The man was found unresponsive beside a parked car near Grouse Lane and Quail Drive. The manner of his death was not known, though Petaluma police said there were no signs of foul play. PETALUMA, Calif. - A man was found dead in Petaluma on Saturday, and police are investigating the circumstances of his death. Petaluma Police Department officers were called just before 6:35 a.m. to the area of Grouse Lane and Quail Drive, near La Tercera Park, on reports of an unresponsive person down next to a parked car and found the man lying in the street, according to a department statement. Petaluma Fire Department units pronounced the man dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin. PPD detectives were called to the scene to investigate the man's death, during which Grouse Lane between Quail Drive and Ivy Lane was temporarily blocked to traffic. Investigators have yet to determine a cause of the man's death, though the police department noted his death "was not suspicious" and "there were no obvious signs of foul play." Petaluma police seek witness info in fatal crash with bicyclist, car
(KRON) — The Petaluma Police Department is investigating a fatal car collision involving a bicyclist on Wednesday afternoon. PPD said they do not think alcohol played a role in the crash. Fatal Fairfield home stabbing stemmed from argument: police PPD said its officers and Petaluma Fire Department personnel responded just after 3 p.m. to the area of Ely Boulevard South at Capistrano Drive. Several neighborhood residents called to report a 'serious collision' with an Acura Sedan and the bicyclist, said PPD. The bicyclist died from their injuries at the scene, and their identity is being withheld until their next of kin has been notified. It is not yet known what caused the crash. Bicyclist killed in Petaluma after collision with vehicle
PETALUMA, Calif. - Officials with the Petaluma Police Department say a bicyclist was killed on Wednesday in a crash with a vehicle. What we know Police say they started receiving calls about the crash at S. Ely Boulevard and Capistrano Drive at around 3 p.m. Officers who arrived at the scene a short time later said the bicyclist succumbed to their injuries. The bicyclist and the driver were both traveling northbound on S. Ely Blvd. at the time of the crash, a police lieutenant said. Police said both the bicyclist and the driver of the vehicle are males, but did not disclose either of their ages. The identity of the bicyclist is being withheld pending notification of the victim's family by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office. Police said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor at this time. Police said the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating with their investigation. An Acura SUV with a shattered windshield on the passenger side and a shoe on the roof of the vehicle was at the scene of the crash, along with what appeared to be a body covered in a tarp near the toppled bicycle. The crash remains under investigation. This is a developing news story.

Parolee tased, arrested in Petaluma
(KRON) — Police chased down and tased a man suspected of attacking someone near a pedestrian overcrossing in Petaluma at 7:24 p.m. Friday. Petaluma Police Department officers responded to the scene after receiving a call about a man carrying a knife and a handgun, who was allegedly responsible for the attack. Officers arrived at the scene and allegedly saw the suspect, Jimmy Soriano-Vazquez, flee into a nearby Target, and then into the Sonoma-Marin Airporter parking lot. Pedestrian hit, killed by car in San Jose Officers ultimately found Soriano-Vazquez near the Petaluma Library and attempted to make an arrest. Soriano-Vazquez allegedly tried to flee from officers, and a Taser was used to bring him into custody. 'Due to reports he was armed, had committed a violent act, was fleeing from officers, and other factors, officers deployed a Taser, successfully detaining him without further incident,' the Petaluma Police Department said. No gun was found in Soriano-Vazquez's possession. Officers called in police K9s in an attempt to find any weapons that the suspect may have tossed during the chase. However, no guns were found at the scene. Court ruled Sonoma State can axe athletics program Several witnesses met with officers and identified Soriano-Vazquez as the suspect in the attack. Soriano is on parole for assault with a deadly weapon other than a gun, and is a known gang member, Petaluma police said. Soriano was taken to the hospital for his injuries and was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for parole violation and resisting arrest. Police are looking for the victim of the alleged attack.
