Pregnant Liz McClarnon, 44, reveals how she and her doctor husband went through miscarriages and multiple IVF rounds after trying to conceive months into their whirlwind relationship
Liz McClarnon has revealed how she and her doctor husband went through two miscarriages and multiple rounds of IVF before conceiving their child. The Atomic Kitten star, 44, shared the happy news earlier this month that she is expecting her first child with her husband Peter Cho, telling her followers in the Instagram announcement that she has finally become pregnant after years of 'painful' IVF. Now, the singer has spoken out on her difficult journey to conceive, as well as her whirlwind relationship with her doctor husband Peter. Liz married Peter in June 2023, but didn't reveal his identity to her followers until they celebrated their first wedding anniversary last year. She has now revealed how the couple first connected on Hinge, mid-2021 lockdown and after communicating with messages for a month they finally met in person in July 2021. Within four months Liz moved from Liverpool to London to live with her doctor beau, and after another four months he proposed in Bath. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The couple started their IVF journey early on in their relationship, as Liz explained that they were both conscious of her age - 40 at the time they met. In 2022, the couple had three failed embryo transfers, which took a mental and physical toll on Liz. 'The first time we did it, I thought, "This will be it,"' she recalled to The Mirror. 'But by my third cycle, it was obviously very different. When that one didn't work, I was really quite sick and I was in a dark hole.' 'I'd put on so much weight but I didn't want to tell anyone why, because I didn't want the IVF to become my identity, my whole personality.' The couple decided to take a break before their 2023 wedding before trying again, but toward the end of 2024 they suffered two heartbreaking miscarriages following their first successful cycles. Liz explained how she felt she was 'done' after the last loss and Peter supported her decision. 'Peter was absolutely on board with that, he didn't say anything other than, "This is your body and I'll support whatever you decide you want," which was a huge thing for me. I felt so bad emotionally, it was really tough' After a Christmas spent with her family back home in Liverpool though, they decided to try again and happily found out she was pregnant in the New Year. Now in her second trimester, Liz is now looking forward to everything that is to come but admits she is nervous. 'Don't get me wrong, I'm so grateful, but I'm also petrified. But you know what? It's happened to women older than me before, and it'll happen again – so we'll just get on with it!' she told the magazine. In June 2024, Liz revealed the identity of her husband Peter as they celebrated their first wedding anniversary. The fiercely private singer took to her Stories with two snaps of her handsome spouse, after his face was previously masked by confetti i n the photo from their big day. Alongside a snap of Peter in the sunshine, Liz wrote: 'Guess what?! I've been married to my perfect match for a whole year, I love you Peter Cho!' She then shared a throwback from their wedding day as they posed together, with the bride looking stunning in a Bardot neckline gown with full skirt. The pair cuddled up, Peter looking dapper in a three-piece black suit, with Liz adding: 'Thank you for your lovely well wishes.' They tied the knot in the Lake District, with the guests including Liz's former bandmate Natasha Hamilton.

Liz McClarnon shares baby joy at 44 after 'dark times' on IVF journey
Liz McClarnon-Cho couldn't be more grateful to be expecting her first baby at 44 – but she's also the first to admit she's somewhat 'petrified' of what's to come. The Liverpool-born singer, who lives in London, tells OK! how she's 'loving life' as a mum-to-be, but also explains why her IVF journey pushed her to her limits. The Atomic Kitten star announced the happy news on her social media earlier this month, and as she opens up about her fertility treatment, miscarriages, and her 'rock' of a husband, she reveals she's been stunned at the reaction to her news. 'I really didn't expect people to be interested,' she laughs. 'I just thought I should probably put it out there before someone else mentioned it. I'm still at that 'is it a baby bump or is it just a big tummy?' stage I think, but it was only a matter of time." 'I wore a Baby On Board badge on the Tube the other day because I didn't want to be knocked, and I noticed someone really look at me... So I decided to just let people know what was happening, then I think it'd been seen by half a million people within a few hours. I'm just here living my fabulous little life, I didn't think people would care. But I think IVF is something that a lot of people can relate to – maybe more than we realise.' Meanwhile, Liz and her doctor husband, Peter Cho, are well into the second trimester and now that the pregnancy sickness has worn off, she's determined to not dwell on the past. That said, she's decided to share her own experiences, the good and bad, in the hope it adds something to the IVF conversation in general. It's also a rare opportunity for Liz, with some gentle cajoling, to tell the world a little more about Peter, who she says has been nothing short of 'brilliant' since they first met online during the Covid pandemic. The couple first connected on dating app Hinge, mid-2021 lockdown – shortly after she was 'kicked off Bumble for impersonating a famous person'. 'Me!' she giggles. After a month of messages and FaceTimes they were finally allowed to meet in person in July 2021, and within another four months, Liz had moved down to London from Liverpool to move in with Peter. Fast forward another four months, and Peter surprised Liz with a shock proposal by the Pulteney Bridge in Bath, complete with fairy lights and gorgeously sparkling ring. 'I'd actually taken him away for his birthday, then he started leading me down some steps... it was really dark so I had no clue what was going on. Then I saw all the fairy lights and he asked me to marry him!' While she's had a number of high-profile relationships, Liz doesn't actually adopt a 'thank God I didn't settle before' attitude because, she says, that feels like 'peeing on someone else's chips, and I wouldn't do that'. She adds, 'I'm just really grateful for what we found, and I genuinely hate the cheesiness of it, but I just knew it was right. On the outside we seem so different, but we're actually the same.' Their IVF journey started quite early in their relationship because, Liz explains, they both knew they wanted children and were aware that her being 40 could delay the natural process. In 2022, the couple had three failed embryo transfers, which hit Liz hard. 'The first time we did it, I thought, 'This will be it,'' she recalls. 'But by my third cycle, it was obviously very different. When that one didn't work, I was really quite sick and I was in a dark hole. 'I'd put on so much weight but I didn't want to tell anyone why, because I didn't want the IVF to become my identity, my whole personality. I was still doing shows and I'd see the comments online talking about me. "I remember one said, 'She's getting really thick,' and others were like, 'She's unrecognisable.' I tried to remember that those people didn't know what was happening, but it was hard. I just felt broken after the third time, so we took a break before the wedding.' Liz explains that it was a conscious decision to be honest in her pregnancy announcement on Instagram about her 'dark times' and 'loss after so much hope'. 'The whole process made me truly appreciate that having a baby is a miracle,' she says. 'There are so, so many things that need to happen correctly for someone to get pregnant, and for that to result in a healthy baby. 'If you fall pregnant naturally maybe you're not as aware, but at times we would be waiting every single day for the phone call to say how many eggs had been retrieved, or how many embryos they had, or if the embryos were healthy, or growing, or to tell us if I was pregnant. Then when it doesn't work, you're just in shock.' Towards the end of last year, the couple suffered two heartbreaking miscarriages following their first successful cycles. 'I said I was 'done' after the last one, and Peter was absolutely on board with that, he didn't say anything other than, 'This is your body and I'll support whatever you decide you want,' which was a huge thing for me. I felt so bad emotionally, it was really tough. But then we spent Christmas at home in my tiny two-bedroom flat, and my mum and dad came down from Liverpool and we all squeezed in. That time actually helped me heal.' It's definitely the start of a new chapter for Liz, who still performs Kitten songs today, more than 20 years after shooting to fame alongside Kerry Katona, Natasha Hamilton and later, Jenny Frost. Liz is 'loving life' now that the anxiety that lingered because of her earlier pregnancies has dissipated. The next milestone, she says excitedly, is finding out if it's a boy or a girl. She has no preference, but wants to remove any uncertainty where she can. She's also aware of the potential impact of her age on her pregnancy and labour, and is already taking aspirin as she falls into the 'high risk' category. She is being monitored for pre-eclampsia, and will soon start taking regular blood-thinning injections. We suggest that once the baby is here, she'll be full of energy. 'Oh God no, my knees already hurt,' she laughs. 'Don't get me wrong, I'm so grateful, but I'm also petrified. But you know what? It's happened to women older than me before, and it'll happen again – so we'll just get on with it!' READ MORE: Jimmy Choo's popular fragrance that 'gets so many compliments' is now less than £25

Atomic Kitten star Liz McClarnon's heartbreaking health scare that left her worried she would never have kids as she reveals she's pregnant with her first child
Liz McClarnon has shared the happy news she is expecting her first child with her husband Peter Cho after a two-decade struggle to conceive. The Atomic Kitten singer, 44, shared the happy news in an Instagram post on Tuesday, telling her followers she has finally become pregnant after years of 'painful' IVF. Liz married her husband Peter in June 2023, but didn't reveal his identity to her followers until they celebrated their first wedding anniversary last year. The performer's happy news comes after years of trying to conceive, and 16 years after she suffered a devastating health scare which left her worried she would never have children. In 2009, Liz was rushed to hospital with a suspected ectopic pregnancy - which can be life threatening - but it turned out that some of her Fallopian tubes had glued themselves together. She was in the middle of an interview that year when suddenly she felt extremely light-headed and unwell. 'I often feel faint because I forget to eat and survive on loads of cups of tea with two sugars, so I thought nothing of it,' she said at the time. 'I carried on with the interview, but afterwards I started to feel worse. I had cramping pains quite low down in my abdomen. I suffer from bad period pains, but this was even worse than that can be. It was really painful.' Liz rang her GP, who told her to come straight into the surgery. 'By then I had a temperature, and when she touched my tummy it really hurt and felt hard. 'When I told her I had also had some irregular bleeding for the previous few days - something I'd never had before - she started to look quite concerned.' Her GP then arranged for Liz to go to a private London hospital straight away for tests. 'I spent a lot of time in hospitals a few years ago when several of my family members died, all quite soon after one another, so I was frightened at the idea of going in,' she said. Her then-boyfriend Rob Gros accompanied Liz to hospital, where she underwent a series of blood tests and scans. The results suggested she had suffered an ectopic pregnancy. This is when a fertilised egg becomes implanted outside the womb, most often in the Fallopian tubes. It often causes abdominal pain and irregular bleeding. If the pregnancy is not caught in time, the tube can burst, causing a huge loss of blood which can prove fatal. Around five women in the UK die each year as a result of this. The embryo has to be removed surgically or dislodged with the Fallopian tube will be removed, too, if it has beendamaged. Only 50 per cent of women who have an ectopic pregnancy go on to have a successful pregnancy in the womb - either because they suffer scarring or lose a Fallopian tube. 'When the doctor said ectopic pregnancy, Rob shot me a really sad look. But at that time I didn't know much about it,' said Liz. 'I thought maybe you could still have the baby. 'Then a few minutes later a nurse came in to take yet another blood test and I asked her: "Do you always lose the baby in an ectopic pregnancy?" When she said "yes", all I wanted was to be able to have that child. 'Even though I had always been careful not to get pregnant, and we had never even discussed having a family, I suddenly really wanted to become a mother.' Liz was told she would need surgery and was warned she might lose a Fallopian tube. 'The hospital was really busy that night, so they had to put me on a post-natal ward,' recalled Liz. 'There were babies everywhere and all I could think was: "Oh my God, I might not be able to have kids." It was really upsetting.' When it was time to have her operation the next morning, Liz was terrified. 'I'd never had surgery before and I was scared of even having the anaesthetic. At one point, I got off the bed and refused to continue with it. 'Rob had to repeatedly calm me down. The surgeon kept coming in, saying: "Are we on or not?" I knew I had to have the operation - I was just nervous about it.' During the operation, it emerged that Liz was not pregnant - instead, her symptoms were the result of her Fallopian tubes being stuck together. If the tubes develop a kink or become blocked because of adhesions, it affects a woman's fertility and increases the risk of an ectopic pregnancy later. Liz came round from the operation to find out she had not been pregnant after all. 'I felt disappointed that I had not been pregnant, but relieved that I still had the chance to start a family when I wanted to. 'The surgeon told me he had separated my fallopian tubes and said I was "good to go".'

Pregnant Liz McClarnon's rocky road to happiness: Atomic Kitten singer searched for love with a slew of pop stars, a demanding millionaire and even on Celebrity Love Island - before finding her eternal flame
Liz McClarnon revealed this week that she is expecting her first child after a journey of 'painful IVF and dark times' in a two-decade struggle to conceive. The singer, 44, is expecting with her husband Peter Cho, whose identity she kept secret until they quietly tied the knot in June 2023. Yet despite finding her happy ending with Peter, Liz has chosen to keep their relationship out of the spotlight - not revealing any other details than his name and rarely posting about him on social media. Her fiercely private romance follows on from a string of high profile flings, which included dalliances with a millionaire businessman and several household names. As a result, the public watched on as she was drawn into slanging matches with boyband members and nursed a broken heart after a relationship with a footballer. It was hardly surprising that as a member of Atomic Kitten - of one of Britain's biggest girlbands in the Nineties - interest in Liz's love life was at an all time high. Yet it was her intense work commitments that brought an end to her first serious romance, and in 2001 she split from her childhood sweetheart, Tommy Hibbs. Having met aged 14, Liz thought she had found her eternal flame with warehouse manager Tommy, with the couple planning to tie the knot in 2021. Yet she called off her wedding just months before it was due to take place, admitting: 'We'd been together for a long time but being in the band has taken its toll. 'Our schedule over the past few months has been unbelievable and it got to a point where I hardly saw Tommy at all, but we are still the best of friends.' Still holding on hope that they could patch things up in the future, she continued: 'Who knows, one day we'll [maybe] be able to sort this out. For now, I'm sad to say that we're no longer together.' Yet work showed no sign of slowing down, with the band securing their second no 1 hit with Eternal Flame, and Liz on the promo trail just days after calling off her engagement. It put the final nail in the coffin for Liz and her childhood love, who she had previously credited with keeping her grounded. Yet the writing may have already been on the wall for the pair when they announced with their engagement, with Liz saying at the time: 'People in the music business are always trying to split us up. 'They said I would forget him when the band took off - he's even been described as my toy boy - but the truth is I love him more than anything in the world.' She added that she had said yes to his proposal because he brought her a much needed sense of 'comfort and security'. Following their split, Liz was briefly linked to England football legend Frank Lampard, but the pair did not speak out on the romance rumours. Up next was Lee Ryan - who as a member of Blue - knew all about life in the music industry and the public eye. The couple dated on and off for two years and were even briefly engaged before they split for good in 2003 amid allegations that Lee had slept with a lap dancer. Yet Lee insisted he was the one to call things off, saying later: 'It just wasn't right any more.' Opening up about their split, Liz told Closer: 'I'd never date another celebrity again. I was engaged to Lee and I didn't like having our relationship in the spotlight. 'For me, it leads to paranoia. You read things about each other and wonder who said what.' Yet this mentality didn't last long and she soon began dating Kian Egan - who she had met when Atomic Kitten and Westlife were on the Smash Hits Tour. Speaking about their budding romance, Liz said in 2003: 'Kian is really lovely. It's early days and we are both really happy. Let's just wait and see what happens.' Meanwhile, a friend of Kian's said that the star was impressed by Liz's high IQ, noting: 'He keeps telling everyone how intelligent she is. It's sweet. 'He really missed her when she was away with the rest of the band.' They added: 'Liz isn't some star-struck groupie. She is a successful and ambitious woman who knows what the industry is like.' But within two months, the relationship had soured, and Kian went on to insist the short-lived fling was a mistake. Speaking to Now magazine, he said: 'It was so bizarre and I'll never go back there. Liz is one strange cookie.' Hitting back at the reports he had been trying to win Liz back, he claimed: 'From the day we broke up I've never called her number in my life and believe me, she's called mine. 'It was splashed over the papers that I'd been pestering her and calling her when I was drunk, begging her to take me back. But it was quite the opposite. I was certainly not obsessed with her.' With another failed romance, Liz thought she'd try her luck on Celebrity Love Island in 2005, where she was was coupled up with Lee Sharpe - but the pair's relationship remained platonic. She still found a man, however, enjoying a brief dalliance with a member of the crew, who she did not name. Reflecting on their romance, she said: 'He walked up to me at the wrap party and was really sweet, very attractive and very nice. We hit it off that night. 'We did talk on the phone and stuff, it's cool. He's a nice guy and it wasn't that I don't like him or anything like that, but he's in Australia. 'We are just good friends now and that's honestly it. Nothing's going to happen there at all.' It was then that Liz vowed to stay away from men for a period, saying: I can't be bothered with dating or huge egos any more. 'Huge egos scare me because it's very delusional to believe everyone loves you. Whatever man I end up with, I doubt he will be a celebrity.' Yet while Liz's next romance saw her move away from the music industry's dating pool, she still dated a big name, footballer Lee Trundle. While he too was in the public eye, Liz admitted she didn't know who the Bristol City striker was when he approached her in a Liverpool nightclub but he won her over by making her laugh. The pair moved in together briefly but their romance came to an end by November 2007, with Liz later saying it was 'very lonely' having a relationship with the footballer. She told The Sun: 'There are a lot of fixtures to play and a fair bit of travelling, so sometimes it was hard to see each other. 'My relationship with Lee sort of came to an end. We didn't love each other anymore and the split was amicable.' Despite struggling to make it work with a footballer, her next boyfriend was also a sporting icon - Harlequins rugby star Ryan O'Neill. The pair had known each other for 12 years - even enjoying a brief fling when Liz was in her 20s - before they decided to make a proper go of it. They moved in together and got engaged but Liz insisted she was in no rush to tie the knot, saying: 'I've no need for marriage, apart from the fact that I'd like to be married before I have children. But that won't happen tomorrow. 'And you can plan a wedding very quickly, so you never know! I'm very interested in sparkly things, though - I could be engaged forever.' Unfortunately, the romance fizzled out and they split in 2014 after two years together. She met her next partner, millionaire businessman Andy Scott in 2016, but their relationship faltered after two years because Liz didn't like flying. He told Femail: 'We're still good friends and she's a lovely girl, but I'm a risk-taker and an adventurer.' The businessman - founder, owner and chairman of London-based investment company REL Capital - went on to make a public plea for a new partner, saying he wanted to find a 'special person' who was free to spend her summers sailing around the Mediterranean and winters skiing in the Alps. With a string of very public romances under her belt, it made sense that Liz wants to keep details of her current partner to a minimum. In 2022, Liz shocked fans and friends alike when she announced she was engaged while wishing her husband-to-be a happy birthday. She took to Instagram to share a snap of her embracing her mysterious fiancé, surprising many of her friends who took to the comments. Her large diamond engagement ring was visible on her ring finger, while she kept the identity of the man a secret. Captioning the black-and-white photo she wrote: 'Happy birthday to my husband-to-be. 'YEP! I'm going to marry the most beautiful human I've ever known and it's his birthday today. Double yay!' In June last year, Liz revealed the identity of her husband as they celebrated their first wedding anniversary. The singer took to her Stories with two snaps of her handsome spouse, after his face was previously masked by confetti i n the photo from their big day. Alongside a snap of Peter in the sunshine, Liz wrote: 'Guess what?! I've been married to my perfect match for a whole year, I love you Peter Cho!' On Tuesday, Liz revealed the couple were expecting their first child together, sharing a video in which she showed off her baby bump. During the video, she said: 'I've been keeping a secret from you, and I've mostly kept myself off social media because sometimes it was hard to smile. 'But after years of sometimes quite painful IVF and dark times, I'm pregnant! We feel like we've been given the world.' Liz captioned the post: 'I started to record a video of me just telling you but I got too emotional so I thought I'd just hide behind this little announcement instead. 'I just can't believe we're here. So many have been through exactly what I went through and worse. ❤️ 'I want to share what I can and add my voice and ears to those who already help others understand or deal with all that comes with IVF and loss after so much hope. 'I've been a part of some beautifully supportive communities. I'm so grateful.'
