Meta Bright's nine-month revenue leaps 222% year-on-year, propelled by building materials segment

PETALING JAYA: Meta Bright Group Bhd, a Main Market-listed diversified conglomerate, reported a strong financial performance for the nine months ended March 31, 2025 (9M25), driven by significant contributions from its building materials, leasing, hospitality and energy-related segments. Revenue leaped 222% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM175 million from RM54.36 million in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. The remarkable growth was largely driven by the building materials segment, which recorded revenue of RM141.62 million, supported by the continued strong performance of Expogaya Sdn Bhd, which Metra Bright acquired in January 2024. Profit attributable to owners of the company (Patami) surged 145% to RM6.95 million from RM2.83 million a year earlier, demonstrating the group's effective diversification strategy and operational efficiencies. The group achieved a 57% increase in revenue to RM53.42 million in Q3'25 compared to RM33.95 million in Q3'24. Meta Bright's robust financial performance was complemented by strong operational cash flows, generating RM14.47 million from operating activities for the nine-month period, compared to a net operating cash flow of RM10.66 million during the same period last year. This positive cash flow demonstrates the group's enhanced cash-generating capabilities and operational strength. Corporate and strategic planning executive director Derek Phang Kiew Lim said, 'Our solid performance in the first nine months reflects the effectiveness of our diversification and growth strategies implemented over the past year. Continued contributions from the existing business segments, combined with disciplined financial management and operational efficiencies, position us well to achieve sustained growth and deliver long-term value to our shareholders.' He added they are particularly encouraged by the sustained improvement in their operating cash flows, which provides them with greater flexibility to pursue strategic opportunities and investments. Despite the challenging market environment, Phang said, their diversified business model continues to deliver stable growth and enhance shareholder value. Looking ahead, Meta Bright remains committed to its growth trajectory by actively identifying new opportunities in property development, energy-related businesses, and infrastructure projects, particularly leveraging the continued infrastructure boom in Sabah. The group intends to enhance its hospitality segment through ongoing improvements at Renai Hotel and other facilities. However, Phang said they will be cautious in light of the cross-border risks and uncertainties surrounding geopolitical factors, ensuring that they maintain a robust risk management approach and strategic flexibility to navigate any potential headwinds effectively. 'We remain optimistic about our business prospects for the remainder of FY2025. With a healthy order book, solid financial fundamentals, and strategic initiatives in place, we believe Meta Bright is well-positioned to sustain its growth momentum,' he added.

Canceled MSNBC Host Katie Phang Reveals Her Next Move

Katie Phang has officially announced her next venture after her eponymous MSNBC show was canned earlier this year. The journalist has launched a YouTube channel in partnership with MeidasTouch, the left-leaning media network said in a press release Wednesday. 'YouTube is the perfect place for Katie Unleashed,' Phang, an attorney and legal analyst, posted on X. 'We'll talk about the law, politics, and culture. You'll hear from trusted, familiar voices. And you'll hear from new voices with fresh takes.' 'It's time we realize WE are the cavalry we've been waiting for,' she added." MeidasTouch, which bills itself as 'the nation's top independent pro-democracy media network,' called Phang a 'respected voice in both law and media' and celebrated their new collaboration. 'This partnership marks an exciting new chapter for both Phang and MeidasTouch as they expand their efforts to build a powerhouse platform for independent, hard-hitting journalism and analysis—at a time when it is needed more than ever," it said in its news release. The group's YouTube channel has 4.84 million subscribers. Phang's new channel, which made its first post on Tuesday, has nearly 90,000. In her first video, Phang was joined by MediasTouch co-founder Ben Meiselas. 'When it came time for me to get out of mainstream media and find my way into the holy land of independent journalism, I could not think of a better place to be than [with] the guys at MeidasTouch,' she said before kicking off her analysis. Phang has also launched a Substack account, and shares commentary and interviews on the subscription-based newsletter platform. She's also continuing on as a legal commentator at MSNBC. The commentator teased her next move on the final episode of MSNBC's The Katie Phang Show late last month, telling viewers she intended to 'meet you where you are at places like Substack and YouTube with fellow truth tellers like MeidasTouch.' In February, she revealed she had been 'stunned' to learn her show was being canceled as part of MSNBC's major shake-up of its lineup. 'I was proud to platform more AAPI voices than any other cable show ever,' she said at the time. 'And I was, and remain, proud to have been one of the only AAPI hosts with her name on a show. Representation matters.' The network axed an array of shows, including those hosted by Joy Reid and Alex Wagner, in February, giving more airtime to figures like former White House press secretary Jen Psaki and Democratic strategist Symone Sanders-Townsend. MSNBC's ratings nosedived after the presidential election, but saw a significant rebound in the new year. Following a November announcement, the network is in the process of being spun off from NBCUniversal and Comcast into a new entity called Versant Media.

MSNBC star bursts into tears after being forced to say goodbye live on air after network axing

MSNBC revamp victim Katie Phang cried on the air Saturday - during her show's second-to-last episode. The Katie Phang Show was one of several casualties brought on by a lineup shift implemented by new network boss Rebecca Kutler a couple months ago - with Joy Reid being another. During a conversation with Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett on one of her final broadcasts before her show is cancelled, Phang, 49, couldn't help but bring this reality up. 'This is the second to last episode of the show. Congresswoman, I wanted to thank you for always getting up early and delivering it,' Phang began, after evoking her race following her show's cancellation in February. 'But I also want to say thank you for your continuing support for democracy,' 'It's definitely something that you have made your brand, and it's integrity that you're bringing,' she continued. 'I'm grateful for you, always,' she finished. The sentiment saw the Texas rep start to cry herself, after which she managed to muster, 'We'll miss you.' At this point, Phang began to cry herself, as she and others like Jonathan Capehart and Ayman Mohyeldin say goodbye to their programs as part of a strategic overhaul from higher-ups. 'Oh! You're gonna have me crying at the beginning of a show! Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, you haven't seen the last of me,' Phang finished, visibly choked up. 'Thank you for being here and getting us started today. I always appreciate you.' The Asian American host's weekly show had filmed in Miami - a base now being abandoned as the network's corporate owner Comcast prepares to spin off most of its cable networks into a separate publicly traded company by November. Amid the change, MSNBC will consolidate production operations to New York and Washington, DC, and Phang will stay on at MSNBC as a legal correspondent. Capehart and Mohyeldin will also fill different roles on the network as well, with news shows being built around them. The same could not be said for Phang, who, like Reid, twisted the identity-politics knife while lamenting her situation after seeing her show pulled by her bosses. 'I was proud to platform more AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) voices than any other cable show ever,' Phang wrote in a pointed post to Instagram in February. 'Representation matters,' she concluded. 'I went hard on so many issues,' Reid complained separately, while weeping through her remarks on a Zoom call to supporters. 'Whether it was the Black Lives Matter, issues of a young baby or a mom or dad that was killed or when we opened up people's eyes to the fact that Asian Americans were being targeted, and not just Black folks. 'My show had value,' she insisted. Phang, meanwhile, is still the network's legal correspondent, after serving as its legal analyst for NBCUniversal since 2017. Her show's final episode airs Saturday. As for MSNBC, the picture has gone from bad to worse. In February 2021, MSNBC averaged a total of 1.4 million total viewers every hour throughout the entire day and an average of 2.9 million total viewers during only primetime hours. Today, those numbers have dwindled down to just roughly 600,000 and 1 million total viewers, respectively - a more than 50 percent decline on both ends.

TV host bursts into tears and says heartbreaking goodbye to guest in shock announcement

US news anchor Katie Phang couldn't hold back her tears live on-air as she bid an emotional farewell to one of her guests . While wrapping up the penultimate episode of her MSNBC show, Phang engaged in a political chat with Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, the Democratic US representative for Texas 's 30th congressional district. As the interview neared its end, Phang was overcome with emotion on-air . "This is the second-to-last episode of the show. Congresswoman , I wanted to thank you for always getting up early and delivering it, but I also want to say thank you for your continuing support for democracy. It's definitely something that you have made your brand, and it's integrity that you're bringing and I'm grateful for you, always," she said. Crockett was the first to shed tears, barely whispering: "We'll miss you." I always appreciate you." Katie and Jasmine both broke down in recent MSNBC airing (Image: (Image: MSNBC)) Phang's departure comes as part of a network overhaul by President Rebecca Kutler, leading to the cancellation of The Katie Phang Show. Reflecting on the unexpected decision, Katie remarked, "I was proud to platform more AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) voices than any other cable show ever. And I was, and remain, proud to have been one of the only AAPI hosts with her name on a show. Representation matters." Despite facing the end of her show, she's set to stay within the network family. However, the axe didn't stop there, as Joy Reid and Jonathan Capehart also faced the music – Reid got the boot altogether, whereas Capehart will be sticking around without his show. Ayman Mohyeldin and Alex Wagner said goodbye to their shows, too. Katie's heartfelt goodbye on-air moved the audience deeply, prompting one viewer to write, "Love this so much. Jasmine waves goodbye because she's crying too much!" Another voiced support: "No idea what the hell is going on at @MSNBC. Katie Phang is a great show host. A great legal mind who is able to distill complicated subjects. And she has a heart." For the latest local news and features on Irish America, visit our homepage here .

Jasmine Crockett slammed for comparing Trump to MS-13 member: 'Complete lunatic'

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, took social media heat after arguing that President Donald Trump is worse than an alleged member of the notorious MS-13 gang. "She got a bad case of [Trump Derangement Syndrome]," one social media user said of Crockett Saturday, adding that the lawmaker "knows we Texans are coming for her seat in Congress in 2026." The comment comes after Crockett's interview with MSNBC host Katie Phang on Saturday, where the Democratic lawmaker said Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal immigrant who was recently deported, was "a lot less criminal" than Trump. "I mean, we know that they admitted that they were wrong. Now they're trying to double back and say, 'Well, he's this terrible person and all this kind of stuff.' But here's the reality. As far as I'm concerned, he's a lot less criminal than the person that's sitting in the White House, because last time I checked, he doesn't have any criminal convictions," Crockett said of the deported Garcia. The interview also featured Crockett tearing up after Phang offered her praise for her "continuing support for democracy" on what was likely Crockett's last appearance on the recently canceled show. But the interview wasn't well-received by many users on X, with one user calling the whole segment a "clown show." "She is a complete lunatic," another user said. "What clowns," added another. "This is so cringe." For her part, Phang also appeared to get choked up during the interview while promising Crockett that she hasn't "seen the last of me." "You can't have me crying at the beginning of a show. Jasmine. Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, you're not... You haven't seen the last of me. Thank you for being here and getting us started today. I always appreciate you," Phang said. Crockett's office did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment.
