Texas Attracting Relatives of NFL and NBA Stars is Raising Eyebrows Across College Football

Texas Attracting Relatives of NFL and NBA Stars is Raising Eyebrows Across College Football originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Whether fans are ready or not, the next wave of athletes has a high chance of making one feel old. Advertisement The athletes that many of us grew up watching now have children set to hit the college or professional ranks. While these players are scattered throughout the country, there seems to be a hotbed forming in Austin, Texas, at the most important position in football. Following the departure of Quinn Ewers, who was drafted in the seventh round with the 231st overall pick by the Miami Dolphins, the Longhorns will turn to former five-star and No. 1 recruit in the 2023 class, Arch Manning. Although he has two starts under his belt, fans have long been clamoring for the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning to take over. While the Manning name has plenty of notoriety, the Texas quarterback room has a chance to be headlined by the son of a former pro athlete for years to come. The Longhorns hold a commitment from 2026 five-star Dia Bell, the son of former Phoenix Suns star and two-time All-NBA Defensive Team selection, Raja Bell. They are also in the mix for a 2027 four-star Gunner Rivers, who is the son of eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback, Philip Rivers. Advertisement With Steve Sarkisian and Texas having a chance to obtain so much potential star power with famous relatives, fans online are taking notice. "Which would be indicative of NFL QBs believing in Sark's QB development," pointed out one fan. "That'd be insane," said another. "I sense a pattern there 🤔," suspected a third. Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning takes the field before his team's College Football Playoff game against the Clemson Tigers at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Dec. 21, Miron-Imagn Images As it stands, Rivers doesn't hold an offer from the Longhorns, but the No. 1 player in Alabama did recently attend a camp. "My first time here, it went well, enjoyed, and good talking to all the coaches," Gunner Rivers told On3 about his Longhorns visit. "I had a great time." This past season for St. Michael Catholic, he threw for 3,927 yards and 36 touchdowns, leading his team to the semifinals of Alabama's 4A playoffs. As for Bell, he threw for 2,597 yards with 29 touchdowns while leading American Heritage to a 9-2 record before he suffered a season-ending injury in the playoffs. What we know about the Chargers 2025 NFL schedule ahead of the reveal

What we know about the Chargers 2025 NFL schedule ahead of the reveal The NFL poorly announced that the 2025 football schedule would be revealed on May 14. Roughly two weeks away from the reveal has us wondering just what this schedule could look like. We know the opponents, so that won't be a shock, but what will the order look like for Jim Harbaugh and company in year two? The 2025 schedule includes nine home games and eight road games. Outside of the AFC West, that breaks down to six games against non-divisional foes at SoFi Stadium and five away from the friendly confines of sunny Los Angeles. This is the season that LA will play the AFC South and NFC East. The remaining three games on the schedule include second-place teams from last season, the Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Minnesota Vikings. The 2025 NFL schedule will be released on Wednesday, May 14, at 5 p.m. PT. Chargers 2025 Opponents Broncos (Home, Away) Chiefs (Home, Away) Raiders (Home, Away) Colts (Home) Commanders (Home) Cowboys (Away) Dolphins (Away) Eagles (Home) Giants (Away) Jaguars (Away) Steelers (Home) Texans (Home) Titans (Away) Vikings (Home) Chargers' last 10 season openers 2015: Home vs Lions 2016: Away vs Chiefs 2017: Away vs Broncos 2018: Home vs Chiefs 2019: Home vs Colts 2020: Away vs Bengals 2021: Away vs Commanders 2022: Home vs Raiders 2023: Home vs Dolphins 2024: Home vs Raiders Over the last 10 seasons, LA has opened the season at home six times versus four times on the road. Half of those instances came against AFC West competition. The Bolts haven't opened back-to-back seasons against a divisional foe since they did it three straight years from 2016 to 2018. Could the Chargers play on Thanksgiving this year? The last time they did came on Nov. 23, 2017, against the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are on the schedule as an away game this season, so it could happen. LA has only played on Thanksgiving five times in franchise history, four coming before the NFL merger. The Chargers are 3-1-1 in those games, including the 28-6 win over Dallas in 2017. In that game, Philip Rivers carved up the defense to the tune of 434 passing yards and three touchdowns. Wherever the Vikings game lands on the schedule, it will mark the first time that Harbaugh will face his former quarterback, whom he coached to a CFP national championship when at Michigan.
