WA deputies arrest teens for pistol-whipping boy, armed robberies

The Brief Two teenagers were arrested for a violent crime spree in Pierce County, involving three armed robberies and assaulting a child on a bicycle. The suspects, aged 18 and 17, committed the crimes within an hour, including pistol whipping a 15-year-old and robbing a woman at gunpoint. Deputies quickly apprehended the teens, highlighting concerns over rising juvenile involvement in violent crime and challenges in holding them accountable. TACOMA, Wash. - Deputies arrested two teenagers for a violent crime spree throughout Pierce County, including pistol whipping a child riding a bicycle. According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the suspects — an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old — are accused of committing three separate armed robberies in about an hour on Monday night. The first incident happened at Paradise Lanes Entertainment on the 12500 block of Pacific Avenue South. The backstory Deputies told FOX 13 Seattle the teens robbed a customer of his backpack and fired a gun. From that point, deputies report the teenage suspects then jumped two 15-year-olds riding their bikes about a mile from the sight of the first robbery. This incident happened near the Highway 512 entrance off Pacific Avenue and 112th Street. Investigators said one of the suspects pistol whipped one of the boys in the mouth and stole both of their cell phones. Finally, deputies report the teenage gunmen went about a mile and a half to the Arco Gas Station near 112th Street and Steel Street South and robbed a woman. Investigators told FOX 13 Seattle the suspects got in the back of the victim's car and pointed a gun at her head and stole $50. However, investigators were able to track down the suspects before they could leave the scene. What they're saying "We're lucky our officers were able to put a stop to it, and stop other people from being victimized," Cappetto said. "Who knows if those two had continued on through the night, how many more people would be robbed at gunpoint, how many more stores would have been robbed? And, you know, somebody could have died." Deputies arrived within seconds of the final robbery and took the suspects into custody. Cappetto expressed frustration about the rising number of juveniles involved in violent crime, as well as the challenges law enforcement faces in holding them accountable. "If it's not a felony crime, we have nowhere to book them. They're released back to their parents," she said. "And a lot of times if they are booked on felony crimes, they are released back to community custody care, of the environment they were in — which doesn't help them get better or make better choices." Both teens were booked on three counts of armed robbery and several counts of assault. The Source Information in this story comes from original reporting by FOX 13 Seattle reporter AJ Janavel. USPS worker robbed at gunpoint in Pierce County, WA

The Brief A 33-year-old man was arrested after allegedly robbing a USPS worker of his master keys at gunpoint on Monday. Lakewood police tracked down the suspect shortly after and arrested him, along with three passengers in a stolen Kia. LAKEWOOD, Wash. - A man accused of robbing a United States Postal Service mail carrier at gunpoint is now sitting in Pierce County jail. What we know Deputies responded to a USPS worker reporting he was robbed by a masked man armed with a pistol just after 11:45 a.m. on Monday. The worker said the driver of a maroon Kia pulled up behind him, got out of his car wearing a full ski mask, pointed a pistol at him, and grabbed the master keys that were hanging in the mail boxes, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. The suspect then drove off, and the victim contacted authorities. Deputies interviewed the worker and were able to pull surveillance video from the surrounding neighborhood, tracking the Kia's license plate and direction of travel. The license plate did not come back to a Kia, the sheriff's department said. Lakewood police located the suspect's car a short time later and began a pursuit. Officers conducted a PIT maneuver on the vehicle, and arrested the driver, along with three passengers. According to deputies, the Kia was confirmed to be stolen, and a pistol could be seen in plain view under the driver's seat, along with the ski mask used in the robbery. The suspect, a 33-year-old man, was booked into Pierce County Jail for eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, and a Department of Corrections warrant for second-degree robbery. The sheriff's department plans to forward charges of first-degree robbery after obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle. The three passengers were released at the scene, as deputies say they claimed they were not involved or in the car during the robbery, and did not know the Kia was stolen. Teen accused of Spanaway, WA house party murders held on $2 million bail

The Brief Davion Williams, 17, is being charged as an adult for the murder of two teens at a Spanaway house party over the weekend. Williams already has several violent convictions on his record, and had his bail set at $2 million. Neighbors called 911 an hour and a half before the deadly shooting. SPANAWAY, Wash. - The teenager who investigators say murdered two other teens at a house party in Spanaway faced a Pierce County judge on Monday. Documents FOX 13 Seattle obtained show that the suspect, 17-year-old Isaiah Davion Williams, is no stranger to violence. According to probable cause documents, Williams has convictions from about 13 months ago out of King County. Documents said Williams was convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm and fourth-degree assault on February 7, 2024. He was also convicted of two counts of third-degree assault on Feb. 14, 2024. Williams appeared in juvenile court in Tacoma. However, he is being charged as an adult for the murders. Judge Joseph Evans still ruled that our cameras could not record Williams' face. The backstory Probable cause documents state surveillance cameras captured the entire shooting. Investigators say the footage shows Williams speaking with a group of people, then pulling out a gun and firing at point black range. According to the court documents, Williams shoots one teen then turns the gun on a second person and starts firing. One of the gunshot victims gets away and then starts firing back, the probable cause documents said. According to investigators, the two teens who were killed in the shooting also had guns on them. In total, six people were shot. One of them was the suspect, Williams. Investigators say there were 50 people at this house party. The event was thrown by a 17-year-old girl and chaperoned by the teen's mother. "We're determined to bring charges forward to anybody that needs to be held responsible," said Deputy Carly Cappetto with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. Neighbors called police more than an hour and a half before the deadly shooting to report the rowdy party. Cappetto tells FOX 13 Seattle deputies were spread too thin on Friday night, responding to priority calls throughout the area. "That night we had armed robberies. We had officers conducting traffic stops on reckless vehicles that were calling for priority help, and unfortunately those are going to take priority over a noise complaint," she said. What they're saying In court, Williams' defense attorney said he is worried about his client's ability to get a fair trial. The defense said investigators had already misidentified Williams in probable cause documents. According to the documents, a witness reported to investigators an Instagram account and said that was who started the shooting. Investigators linked the Instagram account to Williams and even reached out to Meta (the parent company of Facebook and Instagram) to preserve the account. However, Williams' defense told the court that the Instagram account does not belong to his client. Williams pleaded not guilty. The judge set bail at $2 million. Signal board crash in Puyallup throws two workers up to 20 feet

Two Pierce County construction workers were hospitalized Friday afternoon after a car crashed into a signal board they were setting up along Canyon Road East, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. The incident happened around 1:46 p.m. near the intersection of 144th Street East and Canyon Road East. A 27-year-old man driving a silver Kia reportedly told investigators that another vehicle swerved into his lane. He said he overcorrected, striking the portable signal board and causing it to hit the workers nearby. The impact threw the workers—identified as a 51-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman—between 10 and 20 feet. Both were taken to a nearby hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, the sheriff's department said. Drivers are asked to avoid the area. The workers are employed by Pierce County and were in the process of setting up traffic equipment at the time of the crash. The 27-year-old was cited for second-degree negligent driving.
