'Pink Slip' From 'Freaky Friday' Just Performed At Disneyland, And I'm A Moody Teen Again
Okay, so you know about the absolute phenomenon that is Freaky Friday. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan play Tess and Anna Coleman, a dysfunctional mother-daughter duo who end up switching bodies in a freak incident, and are forced to live each other's lives. A damn classic. There's so much to love about this 2003 film: the story, the performances, Chad Michael Murray's terrible rendition of Baby One More Time. But another thing that makes this film truly iconic is Anna's garage band, Pink Slip, and this banger: To refresh your memory, the song is Take Me Away. Watching this film at a time when being in a band was considered the epitome of coolness was something else. We all wanted to be a part of Pink Slip, because this song goes HARD. I mean, just look at them! The song, originally by the Australian alternative/punk rock band, Lash, was turned into a cover by Christina Vidal for Freaky Friday. We know and love Christina as Maddie, Anna's BFF. Recently, a sequel to the film was announced. Freakier Friday, with our favorite duo, releases August 8th. You can check out the trailer here. Of course, Christina Vidal and Haley Hudson of Pink Slip are part of the sequel; as is our beloved Chad Michael Murray. But the new cast members— Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, Rosalind Chao, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan—are incredible! On July 17th—Disneyland's 70th birthday—the cast (minus Lindsay Lohan) made an appearance at the Disneyland resort. In a vlog uploaded by YouTube channel Mouse Vibes, we see the new cast come out and greet eager fans. Addressing the crowd, Jamie Lee Curtis says: "But the thing that makes this movie truly rock, is a particular OG band..." "...so without further ado, it is my thrill to be able to introduce to you, Pink Slip!" The band sang Take Me Away as the crowd roared. I too sang along, sitting at my computer and headbanging, lyrics at the tip of my tongue like muscle memory. Disneyland shared a snippet of this event on Instagram, and naturally, our millennial hearts couldn't take it. And of course, Lindsay Lohan was terribly missed. The Disneyland Resort turned into the ultimate throwback concert venue today as Pink Slip, the fictional band from Disney's Freaky Friday , made a surprise appearance at Tomorrowland Terrace in celebration of the upcoming sequel, Freakier Friday . The performance was introduced by members of the star-studded cast, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Chad Michael Murray, setting the stage for the band's iconic return. Fans were treated to a high-energy rendition of 'Take Me Away', the breakout anthem from the original 2003 film, now freshly re-recorded for the new movie's soundtrack. The band—Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Danny Rubin, and Chris Carlberg—reunited live on stage, bringing a wave of early 2000s nostalgia with a modern edge. After the show, the cast posed with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle to commemorate the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration. The Freakier Friday original motion picture soundtrack will be released by Hollywood Records on August 1, and features: A new recording of 'Take Me Away' Original new tracks A fresh score by composer Amie Doherty Directed by Nisha Ganatra, Freakier Friday picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) last swapped lives. It's produced by Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn, with Jamie Lee Curtis also stepping into a producing role, and Lindsay Lohan serving as executive producer. Lindsay Lohan returned to her iconic role as rebellious rock chick Anna Coleman for the upcoming movie 'Freakier Friday.' A sequel to the hit 2003 Disney film 'Freaky Friday,' the soon-to-be-released follow-up reintroduces the Coleman family, once again exploring the love-hate dynamic between Anna and her mother, Tess Coleman, played by award-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Ahead of the long-awaited release, the singer-actress offered a glimpse of what fans could expect from the sequel. After more than two decades, the singer-actress promised to bring a new perspective to her character as she entered a bold new chapter of her life. 'The whole world looks different,' she told Empire. From being a 15-year-old rebellious high school student, she had evolved into a doting mother to her daughter, played by 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' actress Julia Butters. 'Everything is about your child,' she said, hinting more about Anna Coleman's transformation, adding, 'But we have to remember to make time for ourselves too, live our lives, fulfill our dreams. Ava Max Rings In July 4th Early With New Single ‘Wet, Hot American Dream'
Ava Max Summer is officially in full swing, and pop singer Ava Max is wasting no time in celebrating the weather warming up as the release of her third studio album Don't Click Play looms. With the 4th of July being right around the corner, it's fitting for her latest single to be titled 'Wet, Hot American Dream.' 'Wet, Hot American Dream," like previous Don't Click Play singles 'Lost Your Faith' and 'Lovin' Myself,' was produced by PinkSlip, who was behind Katseye's recent smash hit 'Gnarly.' 'Wet, Hot American Dream," similar to much of Max's catalog, is an upbeat pop track that would fit in as well at the pool as it does at the club. 'Feels like the summer, hundred degrees / I need a drink, someone pour me up a sex on the beach / You're on vacation from out of town / I wanna put you in my pocket, let me show you around," she sings on the track. "Tell me all your dirty secrets, all your fantasies / I wanna be your blue jean, white tee, wet, hot American dream / I'm not like other cowgirls / Unless you want me to be / I wanna be your blue jean, white tee, wеt, hot American dream.' When reflecting on the creative process behind her new album, Max admitted that she took some time to consider what she wanted it to sound like, ultimately deciding that simply opting for a cohesive pop project wasn't enough. '[I] had time to reset and figure out what I really wanted for this next album. I didn't want to just put an album together and put it out," she told Audacy in December. "[It] has slower songs, some pop, rock, [and] country records that the fans have never heard from me. And a couple of records that I think are the best records I've ever made in my entire life, which I'm very excited about that for people to hear.' Don't Click Play is out Aug. 22. The Don't Click Play Tour kicks off Sept. 3 in Los Angeles and wraps up Nov. 20 in Lisbon.
