Adam Scott squashes 'Boy Meets World' feud with Rider Strong once and for all

Adam Scott is burying the hatchet (again), decades after an awkward encounter on the set of "Boy Meets World." The "Parks and Rec" actor, 52, guest-starred on the teen drama in 1995, playing bully Griff Hawkins. Years later, he revealed on the rewatch podcast "Pod Meets World," that an awkward encounter with series star Rider Strong had haunted him for years. When the Season 2 finale wrapped, and everyone began cheering, Scott had gone in for a hug only to be given the cold shoulder by Strong, the actor revealed in a 2023 podcast episode. Strong, one of the hosts of the podcast, reacted in shock, saying he didn't even remember the moment. Adam Scott says incident with 'Boy Meets World' co-star Rider Strong 'has been tugging at me for 29 years' "Are you serious?" he asked. "Why would I do that?!" The two eventually smoothed things over, with Scott expressing relief that it wasn't a grudge his former costar was holding, and Strong apologizing for the confusion. Now, the "Severance" star is confirming once again that the one-sided feud is "squashed." "Rider Strong, who the awkward interaction was with, didn't even remember it. And I really, truly had been carrying it around for, it was like 30 years, because it was like 1994, '95. It's crazy," he said during a recent appearance on Entertainment Weekly's 'Awardist' Podcast. "I feel like we addressed it," he added. "I think it's been squashed." Now a full-grown, Emmy-nominated star, Scott also revealed that it's taken decades in the industry to shake off the same nervousness around interactions on set. "That's really what I had to overcome," he said during the July 24 podcast. "It took me 20 years to overcome. It's just being so freaked out being on a movie set or a TV set, because I was so excited about it, that I couldn't kind of calm down and just relax and not worry about all that other, all the accoutrements around you."

Adam Scott Shares Update on His Feud With Rider Strong After 30-Year-Old Boy Meets World Uncomfortable Set Incident

Adam Scott has confirmed that there's no bad blood between him and Boy Meets World star Rider Strong after addressing a long-standing awkward moment from the '90s sitcom. Speaking on the July 24 episode of Entertainment Weekly's The Awardist podcast, Scott said he has found closure over a 30-year-old memory from the set of the Boy Meets World Season 2 finale. Scott, known for roles in Parks and Recreation and Severance, played bully Griff Hawkins in a few episodes of the hit show. During his 2023 appearance on Strong's Pod Meets World podcast, he brought up the memory that had stuck with him for nearly three decades. Adam Scott clears the air with Rider Strong Adam Scott shared how he had carried this one moment around since the mid-'90s. 'Literally, this has been tugging at me for 29 years,' he told Strong on the podcast. 'The scene ends. Everyone just erupts and starts cheering.' 'I go in to hug you, and as I do that, you push me off and you give me this look like, 'Wait a second. Who the f— are you?' And then, you run away,' Scott recalled. Rider Strong was surprised and said he didn't remember the incident at all. 'Are you serious? Why would I do that?' he asked. His reaction came as a relief to Scott. 'I'm so glad you don't remember that because, to some extent, that means it wasn't a traumatic experience.' Here's what Scott says about finding closure On The Awardist, Scott confirmed that the issue has been resolved. 'I feel like we addressed it,' he said. 'I think it's been squashed.' When asked if revisiting the incident helped him find closure, Scott joked, 'No, we need to work it out.' But he quickly clarified, 'Yeah, absolutely.' He added, 'Rider Strong…didn't even remember it. And I really, truly had been carrying it around for…it was like 30 years, because it was like 1994, '95.' Scott also spoke about how difficult it was for him to feel comfortable in Hollywood during the early years of his career. He said that people who grow up around show business, often referred to as "nepo babies", have the advantage of being used to the environment, so it doesn't feel particularly special or nerve-racking to them. He shared that overcoming those nerves took him about 20 years. Scott admitted he would often feel overwhelmed on movie and TV sets because he was so excited to be there. It was hard for him to calm down, relax, and not get distracted by everything happening around him.

Danielle Fishel reveals she still has some of the hair she chopped off nearly 30 years ago on 'Boy Meets World': 'I have the biggest chunk!'

Topanga's big chop was an iconic moment in the Boy Meets World universe — and Danielle Fishel said her mom kept a memento of it after all these years. Fishel, who played Topanga, previously discussed sharing her locks with in-studio audience members after she snipped her hair during the season 4 episode "Hair Today, Goon Tomorrow." But to her surprise, Fishel discovered that she hadn't gotten rid of all the strands. On the most recent episode of Pod Meets World, the actress said her mother, who kept all of her Boy Meets World memorabilia, recently gave her a chunk from that nearly 30-year-old episode. "I have the biggest chunk," she said. On the show, Topanga tries to make a statement about vanity by chopping off her beautiful, long hair, but it backfires as the teen spirals out of insecurity. In real life, Fishel had wanted to get her "first adult haircut" for months before the episode, but the producers wouldn't let her touch her head until they could write it into the show. Even after the producers agreed to let her cut her hair, Fishel said they argued over the length. "It was an actual negotiation," she said in a previous episode of the podcast. "And there was a lot of stress about whether or not I was gonna listen because [they] knew I had all the power with the scissors in my hands." The audience gasped when she snipped her real hair, but they were eager to get a piece after the taping ended. Now, Fishel is uninterested in sharing the rest of the loot with others. After costar Will Friedle suggested auctioning off the hair for charity, Fishel shut down the idea. "Whoever buys that, what do they do with it?" she asked. Instead, Topanga's iconic chopped hair will remain in her garage for the rest of her life — or until Fishel's kids clean it out of the house. Listen to the entire episode of Pod Meets World below.
