Patna Police arrest three for raping minor girl in Danapur

Patna: Patna Police have arrested three persons for allegedly raping a minor girl and blackmailing her with a video clip, an official said on Thursday. City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh said that the police came to know about the incident on July 22 after the victim's parents lodged a complaint at the Danapur police station. 'The investigation revealed that four youths allegedly gang raped the victim, recorded a video of the incident, and used it to blackmail her. They extorted jewellery kept in the house,' Singh said, adding that the case was solved within 24 hours of the complaint. Danapur Police registered FIR number 767/25 on July 22, 2025, under Sections 70(2), 308(2), 351(2) of the BNS, along with relevant sections of the POCSO Act (4/6/12). Following directions from the Senior Superintendent of Police, an SIT was formed under the leadership of City SP (West) to investigate the case. According to Singh, the accused befriended the victim on Instagram, took her to a hotel, gang raped her, recorded the act, and later used the obscene video to extort gold jewellery, which they sold at a shop. Based on the statements of the three arrested youths, the police also arrested goldsmith Arvind Kumar for allegedly purchasing the stolen jewellery. During questioning, Kumar admitted that he had bought the jewellery from the accused. 'We have seized five mobile phones during the operation, and raids are underway to apprehend another individual involved in the incident,' Singh said. The investigation team included Sub-Inspector Ashish Kumar Chaudhary, Sub-Inspector Bittu Kumar Sharma, Sub-Inspector Preeti Kumari, Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandan Pratap Karna, and members of the Police Station armed force. The incident once again exposes the sad and grim reality of the society pertaining to safety and security of women. Crimes against women have been one of the most glaring challenges across the nation and the entire country has been struggling to deal effectively with it.

All three are in their twenties. Police said two mobile phones, 14 debit cards, and seven cheque books were recovered from their possession. According to Brijesh Yadav, in-charge of Cyber Police Station, Lucknow, the incident occurred on July 18, when the victim, Rita Bhasin, received a phone call from a person claiming to be a CBI officer. She was informed that her Aadhaar and mobile number were linked to illegal activities and that a case had been registered against her in Andheri East, Mumbai. The call was then transferred to a person pretending to be a Mumbai Police officer through a WhatsApp video call. The impersonator, wearing a police uniform, allegedly intimidated her with threats of arrest and legal consequences. To avoid detention, the woman was instructed to isolate herself in a room and remain visible on video calls at all times. She was also warned not to contact anyone and was shown a fabricated arrest warrant and seizure order. Under the pretext of making a court-mandated payment, she was initially forced to transfer ₹47 lakh, followed by further transactions amounting to a total of ₹56 lakh. Additional DCP (Crime/Cyber) Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar said the accused impersonated officials from agencies such as the police, RBI, and CBI. Using fake documents and staged video calls, they allegedly convinced victims they were under 'critical arrest' and that compliance through money transfers was necessary to avoid jail. Investigations revealed that the money was routed through multiple bank accounts, converted into cryptocurrency (USDT), and dispersed among the members of the gang. 'An FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act has been registered,' the SHO added.

Wife 'decapitated by husband who then carried her head to police station'

A horrific incident has occurred in India where a man allegedly decapitated his wife and then presented her severed head to the police. Shankar, 28, from Hennagara near Bengaluru, is accused of committing the gruesome act after he reportedly found his wife in a compromising position with another man at their rented home. Local police sources have described the couple as having a "loving marriage" before they moved to the area recently. On June 3, Shankar is said to have gone to work and returned late to find his spouse allegedly with another man. Following an alleged attack on both parties, he is claimed to have beheaded his wife and then turned himself in at the Suryanagar Police Station. There are reports suggesting the couple was experiencing marital problems. The wife had reportedly expressed a wish to separate but still visited the house frequently, leading to ongoing disputes, neighbours say. The final argument on Thursday is reported to have escalated, culminating in the tragic killing, reports the Mirror. After the deed, Shankar is said to have ridden his motorcycle to the local police station with his wife's severed head and gave himself up to the authorities. Suryanagar police are conducting an inquiry into the matter, with more information to be released in time. Following a gruesome event in South Dakota, US, 34-year-old Bowen Fladland is accused of decapitating his 70-year-old mother, Marlene Fladland, and burying her remains in the front garden of his residence. He faces charges of first-degree and second-degree murder earlier this month. Police discovered the victim's body on July 8, although investigators suspect she met her untimely death at least three days prior. In another shocking case, it has come to light that a cocaine-addled Scottish postman beheaded his girlfriend after lamenting that her waitress shifts left him feeling "lonely." Ewan Methven brutally murdered 21-year-old Phoenix Spencer-Horn in her East Kilbride home, using three knives to stab her 20 times. The High Court in Glasgow was informed that Methven viciously attacked his partner, severing her head and attempting to dismember her limbs and torso. During a call to emergency services, he confessed to the operator that he had been "trying to muster up the courage to phone" following the incident, claiming he "totally blacked out through the thing." The 27 year old awaits sentencing this month.

Police said as per Andhare, the accused had initially booked the hall for two parties. At around 10:30pm they booked it for a third party, which was joined by five women. Since Tuesday , reports about the firing incident were circulating, prompting police to visit two art centres in the area and question the staff. However, no leads emerged initially. Police also cross-checked medico-legal cases (MLCs) in nearby hospitals but found no evidence of injuries. Meanwhile, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader and MLA Rohit Pawar on Wednesday criticised the police through a post on X , alleging that the main accused is the brother of a ruling party MLA and that a young woman was injured in the firing. 'Instead of finding out who fired the gun, it is being said that the police - under pressure from those in power - are trying to cover up the case,' Pawar wrote in his post. He further questioned whether the accused would face action or escape due to political connections. 'Is this how power is being misused?' he asked. However, the police have said that they have not established any political links at this stage or confirmed whether the weapon used was a licensed firearm or a country-made pistol. They have also reiterated that no injuries were reported in the incident and that a thorough investigation is underway.
