Four arrested on charges of Arecanut theft
Representative Image UDUPI: Four persons were arrested in connection with Arecanut theft reported in the region, police said on Monday. The accused are Santosh, 35, from Nooji Baltila village, Kadaba taluk; Shanoor Babulal Nawaz alias Nawaz alias Ghajni, 31, from Kalghatgi taluk, Dharwad district, and currently residing in Bhatkal taluk, Uttara Kannada district; Khwaja alias Mohammad Khwaja, 26, and Mohammad Sadiq alias Sadiq, 27, from Bhatkal taluk, Uttara Kannada district. SP Hariram Shankar said on Monday that all the accused were arrested and produced before a court. In connection with this case, 455 kg of stolen arecanut and a car used for its transport were recovered, he said. It may be recalled that complainant Masood Patel from Hadinagadde in Yadtare village, Byndoor taluk, and owner of about 60 acres of land where he cultivates arecanut, coconut, jackfruit, mango, rubber and other crops, alleged that he stored approximately 200 bags of sun-dried arecanut in plastic sacks, stacked and covered with black plastic inside a godown located in his Hadinagadde plantation. On May 22, around 10.00 am, when he visited the godown, he found that the lock of the iron grill gate at the entrance was broken open. It was later discovered that between May 15 and May 22, unknown miscreants broke the lock of the godown and stole all 200 bags of arecanut. The estimated value of the stolen arecanut is around Rs 5.6 lakh. In this connection, a case was registered at the Byndoor Police Station under Sections 331(3), 331(4), and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). 20-year-old arrested after driving car marked with Chinese police badge
A 20-year-old man will face court after allegedly impersonating a foreign police officer and possessing multiple firearms and fraudulent documents during a vehicle stop in Sydney's Inner West. Traffic and Highway Patrol officers on Everton Road, Strathfield spotted a black sedan bearing markings resembling Chinese police insignia just before 3pm on Friday, 18 July. Police stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who presented ID documents and a disability pass. Officers soon discovered the documents were allegedly fraudulent. A search of the car uncovered ammunition. Subsequent inquiries led officers to a home in Baulkham Hills, where they seized two firearms. The man was taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with a string of offences, including impersonating emergency services through unauthorised insignia, using false documents, possessing prohibited firearms, and storing firearms without approved conditions. He also faced charges for misleading police, failing to comply with licence conditions, and displaying police insignia on a civilian vehicle. He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday, 22 July 2025. His firearms licence has been suspended. Police have not ruled out further charges as investigations continue.

Teacher engaged in obscene acts with students in chittorgarh school arrested
Bhilwara: In a school referred to as a temple of education, an incident involving a teacher engaging in obscene acts with students emerged in Chittorgarh. Anil Porwal, the CBE Officer from Dugla Block, who was sent as an investigating officer by the education department, stated that the accused teacher, Shambhulal Dhakad, was suspended. Considering the seriousness of the matter, higher authorities were informed about the incident. Chittorgarh SP Sudhir Joshi stated that in the case of teacher Shambhulal Dhakad from Anwalkheda School engaging in inappropriate behavior with children, the victim's family submitted a written report on the spot. Consequently, Begu police station registered a case under various sections of the IPC, IT Act, POCSO Act, and SC/ST Act, leading to the arrest of the accused, Shambhulal, son of Gheesalal Dhakad, a resident of Turkadi, Begu police station.

Youth arrested for extortion
Nagpur: In a swift crackdown on extortion, Jaripatka police arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly threatening and demanding protection money from a street food vendor operating a Chinese food stall in Misal Layout. The accused, identified as Punesh Gulabsingh Thackeray, a resident of Misal Layout, had reportedly been harassing the complainant for the past three months. The victim, Saurabh Surendra Ilamkar, 23, a resident of Indora Nagar, runs a roadside Chinese food stall under the name 'Saurabh Chinese'. According to the police, Thackeray first approached Ilamkar three months ago and made threats to stop the latter from running his stall unless he paid Rs 500 every week. "Whom did you ask before starting this stall? Don't you know who I am? I am feared in Jaripatka," Thackeray allegedly warned the vendor. Fearing for his safety and livelihood, the vendor quietly complied for weeks. However, matters escalated on the morning of July 18, when Thackeray arrived at the stall around 10am, while Ilamkar was attending to customers. The accused demanded an increased sum of Rs 2,000 per week. When the vendor refused, citing lack of money, Thackeray reportedly pulled out a knife and began vandalising the stall's equipment. He allegedly issued further threats before fleeing the spot. Following the incident, Ilamkar approached Jaripatka Police Station and lodged a complaint. Acting swiftly, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Police Act. The accused was booked under the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act for possession and use of a dangerous weapon. Jaripatka police launched an immediate manhunt. Within hours, Thackeray was tracked down and placed under arrest. The weapon used in the incident was also seized. Police said Thackeray has a history of criminal activities in Jaripatka and is known to frequently extort money from small business operators and hawkers in the locality.
