Calls for tougher laws to stop people riding illegal e-bikes

Reports of illegal e-bikes being used to commit crimes and a sharp rise in seizures by police have prompted calls for tougher from police forces in Dorset, Sussex and Surrey show 66 e-bikes were taken off the streets in 2024, compared to six in Police officers have already seized 33 this year, up from 10 in 2024, and said they have stopped riders as young as 11.A spokesperson for the Department for Transport described existing regulations governing e-bike use as "strict". Currently anyone over the age of 14 can ride a legal e-bike, as long as it has pedals, does not travel faster than 15mph, and has an output of no more than police say a large number are being converted to travel faster than 15mph and do not have pedals or is a growing concern for forces, who are upping patrols and trialling new tactics to identify illegal riders involved in anti-social behaviour.I joined one Dorset Police team on a rainy morning in May, as they patrolled the streets of Poole. I rode in one of four cars, two marked and two unmarked, with a Poole neighbourhood policing team, looking for individuals who may be behaving anti-socially on Ashley Jacobs told me he recently dealt with an 11-year-old who was part of a group riding e-bikes pulled into a very quiet housing estate and the officers detained two young people and seized the e-bike they were Nick Lee said he had seen similar "especially dangerous" models reach speeds of up to 45mph."And what we've also now learned from talking to the young people involved and from looking at the bike, is it's got no brakes," he said. Insp Lee said some of the illegal e-bikes the team were seizing were used to facilitate "acquisitive crime and drug dealing".As a result, the team are trialling a new spray that can help identify e-bikes used in anti-social incidents. The SmartTag spray allows them to mark the bikes and the clothing of the rider, so when they do come across them again, they can link them to previous incidents."Every can is uniquely identifiable," Insp Lee said."We then look to carry out an investigation to identify the individuals responsible for that kind of behaviour." Julie and Lee Whitecross have seen the impact of e-bikes being driven February, Mr Whitecross was taking their Pomeranian Saffi for a walk when an e-bike rider hit and killed her. Mrs Whitecross said her husband heard the electric bike approaching at speed, while their dog was on a nearby grass verge. "The next minute, Saffi screamed," she said."We can only imagine that he's either kicked her as he's gone by or he's turned the bike wheel."She just looked up at him for a few seconds and she just died in his arms."Although the police carried out enquiries after Saffi died, the culprit was never found. Mrs Whitecross said her husband had found the loss "devastating" and hoped for better education for people riding e-bikes. "They go at such speed and it's only a matter of time before it's a mother with a child. It could kill someone." Back in Poole, once the e-bikes are seized they are taken to the station where they are collected to be are brought to Eastleigh in Hampshire, along with seized e-scooters. Insp Lee said: "This is really completing the journey. Our communities don't want these in their community. "They don't want the antisocial behaviour attached to it, and it's really sending out that message that this is something that we're not gonna tolerate."PC Ashley Jacobs said: "The impact is a lot of the time we will post on social media about our seizures. "A lot of the replies will be, you don't do anything about it or you give them back. "This, today, shows that they're not going back to the people who are riding them." What is the law on electric bikes? It is legal to ride an electric bike without a driving licence and they do not need to be registered, taxed or they need to meet certain requirements.E-bikes must have pedals, the motor should not be able to provide power to the wheels when travelling above 15.5mph (25kmph) and it should only be used on cycle paths and bike that travels faster than the limit and has more than a 250-watt output is classed as a motor vehicle and is subject to the Road Traffic Act. Labour MP for Bournemouth East Tom Hayes is calling on the government to introduce mandatory registration and licensing for Hayes said: "When I'm in my surgery appointments or knocking on doors, people feel intimidated. "I've heard stories about an elderly couple walking on Southport High Street, being circled by people wearing balaclavas on their illegal e-bikes."I'm pleased that we've got 40 additional police officers coming to our communities under government investment."I hope that with those police officers on the ground, they're going to be able to catch more of these criminally behaving people."The Department for Transport spokesperson said: "There are already strict regulations for e-bikes, including that their motors mustn't exceed 250 watts and must cut out when the bike reaches 15.5 mph."All e-bikes must meet these regulations, and the police have powers to seize e-bikes that aren't compliant." Archaeologists find a sweet surprise below an ice cream shop: A medieval knight

Image credits: X The coolest treat this summer was received by the archaeologists in Poland, who found a sweet surprise under the site of a former ice cream shop. Researchers with the company ArcheoScan unearthed a skeleton of a medieval knight under a street corner in Gdańsk, Poland, in early July. They were digging at a site which was a former ice cream parlor named Miś, when they discovered a 700-year-old Gotland limestone tombstone engraved with the image of a knight in armor holding a shield. As per a translated news release from Poland's national heritage agency, early estimates dated the stone back to the 13th and 14th centuries. But that wasn't all. Just two days later, the researchers uncovered the knight's entire skeleton about five inches below the tombstone. The knight was about 40 years old at the time of death and measured about 5 feet and 7 inches tall, said anthropologist Aleksandra Pudlo from the Archaeological Museum in a post on the official Gdańsk website. The knight's bones were found in what the researchers believe is a medieval cemetery with nearly 300 other graves. "I can initially say that he was a man of strong build, over 40 years old. His height was approximately 170 centimeters, maybe more. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sulaymaniyah: Unsold Furniture Liquidation 2024 (Prices May Surprise You) Unsold Furniture | Search Ads Learn More Undo In the Middle Ages, this was the average height for men in Gdańsk; women were on average 10 centimeters shorter. We will know more about the skeleton from this grave after conducting a thorough examination," explained Pudlo. According to the evidence, only eight of the 300 graves were covered with tombstones, which means that those were of the individuals who held important roles in the society of that time. Image credits: X The archaeological site was previously an ice cream shop that opened in 1962 and has since moved to another location. Not only a knight's skeleton, but also other discoveries such as remains of small cottages from the 12th and 13th centuries and a wooden church from 1140, believed to be the oldest in Gdańsk, have also been found at the site. According to the evidence, only eight of the 300 graves were covered with tombstones, which means that those were of the individuals who held important roles in the society of that time. Researchers will make use of 3D software to examine the tombstone, and archaeologists may try to reconstruct the object. While further research is required to determine the origins of the knight and the site, Pudlo shared that if all goes well, they could have the information by next year. Gdańsk was captured by the Teutonic Knights in the autumn of 1308, and the origin of the knight will determine if he served the Pomeranian dukes of the Sobieslaw dynasty or the Order of the Hospital of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the German House in Jerusalem.

Bonnie Blue's doomed marriage to childhood boyfriend who started her sex career

Viral adult star Bonnie Blue has opened up about her failed marriage for the first time in a new Channel 4 documentary that delves into her unusual life behind the scenes Away from extreme sex stunts and bragging about sleeping with married men on social media, Tia Billinger, the real woman behind the Bonnie Blue persona, has kept her love life largely under wraps. ‌ But now she has given a first glimpse into what life is really like behind the scenes of her lucrative porn empire - speaking for the first time about her failed marriage. ‌ Bonnie swapped her social media stunts for documentary cameras as she allowed Channel 4 producers complete access to her life for six months. ‌ Dark lonely life of Bonnie Blue from acid attack fears and seclusion to divorce 'I saw real Bonnie Blue behind closed doors - there's one dark truth people don't see' A new show, titled "1,000 Men and Me: The Bonnie Blue Story" sees the star sat at home surrounded by Pepsi Max cans, delivery boxes and her fluffy white Pomeranian as she completes wholesome puzzles and other crafts. ‌ It's world's away from the gritty sex challenges she films at work, including one event that saw her sleep with 1,057 men in just 12 hours. But it's clear that her lifestyle lacks the glitz and glamour you might expect from a 26-year-old millionaire - instead, she seems lonely and isolated and admits she can't leave the house alone and has full time security to protect her. ‌ Bonnie, a former NHS recruitment worker from Derbyshire, split up with her husband and childhood sweetheart Oliver Davidson as her career took off. Her closest friends now seem to be Josh, her live-in videographer, and a stylist named Hermes. She says in the show: "My sort of circles got smaller, but my team are also my best friends." It was actually Oliver, or Ollie as he's known to Tia, who encouraged her to move into sex work. "I met Ollie when I was like 14, 15," she explains in the show. "We got married really young. Pretty, quite intimate wedding, nothing crazy, nothing over the top. Then we relocated to Australia shortly afterwards." ‌ As Bonnie opens up on her relationship, viewers are shown never-before-seen photos of the couple. One shows a young, make-up Tia posing for a selfie with Ollie as she affectionately pulls him close and holds his face. Another pic shows the couple on their weddding day surrounded by family, with Bonnie dressed in a sparkly silver jumpsuit holding a white bouqet of roses and Ollie in a dapper dark suit. ‌ And a third selfie shows the pair smiling on a beach in Australia after the big move, with Bonnie's glitzy wedding and engagement rings on show. "Ollie was beyond supportive, he gave me the confidence to do OnlyFans," the star explains. "And it wasn't because he wanted to pimp me out, he just wanted me to be happy and have control of my life. And obviously the money was good as well." ‌ In the documentary, Ollie attends a porn awards ceremony with Bonnie in Vegas. Breaking his silence, he gushes about Bonnie's sex stunts and says he's proud of her. It's the first time he's spoken out about his ex's career, as he's stayed out of the spotlight until now. "She really connects with the fans. Most people, if they do porn, they seem out of reach. You're never going to meet them. You're never going to be able to film with them," he says. "Whereas Bonnie puts a location online, and then obviously her fans can actually film with her. It's like a defining moment in porn, where she's completely changed the game." ‌ And in a new interview today, Bonnie shared exactly why things didn't work between her and Ollie. She told the Daily Mail that they broke up some time before she moved back to the UK from Australia in 2024, and that Ollie returned before her. "We loved each other, but we weren't in love. So we separated, but we didn't make it official," she said. "Me doing what I've done recently had nothing to do with the relationship breakdown. But, of course, no one will believe me."

On a tight leash

After the charm and quiet of Chandigarh, Mumbai seemed to me sheer madness. Looking out of the 18th floor flat, I made out everything below to be rows of ants crawling out in all directions — why all this rush and bustle so early in the morning? The sight of the majestic Shivaliks in Chandigarh has given way to miniature parks and slides in Mumbai. As I commence my morning walk, with my gentle Pomeranian trotting beside me, I shut my eyes and try to form a mental picture of peace and quiet. I hold Sheru on a leash, but with enough leeway for him to gently roll on, on his own rhythm. Peace and quiet are, however, not much in demand here. The moment I step on to the potholed road, the streetlights fade out (too much of a coincidence). Boldly, we march on, taking the middle of the road where potholes are at least more visible. Many middle-age and elderly persons are up early, shuffling along the road, in what passes for regular morning exercise in Mumbai. Once you reach the Bandstand promenade, a stiff warning greets you, 'Dogs not allowed.' Beside the side entrance, even wiser dictum is made available: 'Dogs and other eatables not allowed!' However, with all these signs around, the first thing that meets you once you enter is a pack of stray dogs. They come in batches, bark, snipe, and leave, just as chaperoned and well-behaved dogs have to make do by trotting outside the periphery. Sheru is such a quiet and well-behaved dog that I sometimes forget that he is tailing me along. Usually, he stops once-in-a-while to sniff at some vegetation; or simply look up, admiring the scenery around. When we conclude the morning walk, normally Sheru is more refreshed than me. Not any more. At the end of two weeks in Mumbai, we encountered aggressive and well-knit groups of strays seemingly waiting at street corners, before dimly lit societies, and suddenly pouncing on passing dogs, with furious barks. The scene is reminiscent of old horror films. I am not aware whether any other city suffers from similar menace. When we are out for our morning walk these days, there is a tight leash separating us, leading passers-by to speculate whether I am leading Sheru, or it is the other way around. muralee6@

Grouchy Pomeranian Pretends to Be Asleep Until Mom Mentions His Favorite Snack

Grouchy Pomeranian Pretends to Be Asleep Until Mom Mentions His Favorite Snack originally appeared on PetHelpful. If you have a pet at home, you know how quickly they learn certain words, as well as how to ignore them, too. Luffy is a Pomeranian puppy who already knows several food-related words, but he's only a fan of one of them as you'll see in this video his mom posted recently. Make sure your sound is on so that you can hear Mom list off several words that Luffy, who is pretending to be napping, doesn't pay any attention to. But when she mentions his favorite snack, the look on his face is priceless! Luffy's mom says in the video's caption, "He hears what he wants to hear." Luffy reminds us a lot of a toddler because they're the exact same way! Viewers of the short and sweet video had a lot to say about it and left nearly 1,000 comments. @milliepommybrown joked, "Did someone sayyy chickennnnn LOL!" @Windy Geiger-Stiener pointed out, "His little eyeball peek as you roll through the options..." @Kele added, "That's the password! Who would have thought?!"Healthy Treats for Your Pup If you have a pooch who is a fan of human foods, there are plenty that you can offer them that are both nutritious and yummy. All of the foods that Luffy's mom listed off are great options for your pup, as well as many other fruits and veggies. With summer heat finally here, there are some great water-dense foods that you can offer to your dog either as-is or frozen for a crunchy treat like cantaloupe, watermelon, mangoes, different berries, and spinach and celery. Top Dog Tips offers this tip about celery, "When feeding your dog celery, make sure to remove leaves and cut celery sticks into smaller pieces to avoid choking hazards. It's also important to note that eating too much celery can have a diuretic effect on the dog." Though all of these treats are healthy, that doesn't mean that you can feed your fur baby as much of them as they'll eat. Opt to serve them in small quantities as an occasional treat instead of offering them all day, every day.
