Mediterrane Film Festival Sets Jury and Special Programming for Third Edition

The 2025 edition of the Mediterrane Film Festival is falling into focus. The third installment of the festival — scheduled to take place in Valletta, Malta from June 21-29 — has reeled in a jury that includes filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), Oscar winning production designer Rick Carter (Avatar), costume designer Charlese Antoinette (Air), set decorator Elli Griff (Napoleon), production designer James Price (Poor Things), Maltese director Mario Philip Azzopardi (ZOS: Zone of Separation). The jury will determine the recipients of the Golden Bee Awards, a list that will be unveiled at a gala, on June 29. The Mediterrane Film Festival, which is under the direction of a new creative team in festival director Ray Calleja and curator Mark Adams, features three pillars of programming: main competition (films from across the Mediterranean), out of competition (global selections) and Mare Nostrum or Our Sea (films dedicated to sustainability and environmental themes). The latter's jury includes Grainne Humphreys, a longtime artistic director of the Dublin Film Festival, and Ania Trzebiatowska, a senior programmer at the Sundance Film Festival. Beyond the fest's public screenings, programming will also include panels, roundtables and masterclasses from notable industry talent. Jury member Hardwicke will be pulling double duty this year as she's already been booked for a filmmaker discussion in support of her film, Lords of Dogtown, which will have a 20th anniversary screening. Past speakers include Mike Leigh, editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis (Poor Things), Oscar-winning production designer Nathan Crowley (Wicked), casting director Margery Simkin (Top Gun) and composer Simon Franglen (Avatar: The Way of Water). This year's festival is being curated with the theme 'We Are Film,' which is meant to be a reflection of the festival's mission to unite creators and audiences in honoring the universal language of film. It also very much aligns with a major Malta milestone: 2025 marks 100 years of filmmaking in the area, dating back to its first feature film, 1925's Sons of the Sea. In the century since, it has become a hot production hub thanks to its architecture, landscapes and water-based facilities at Malta Film Studios. Movies that have shot in the area include Gladiator, Troy, Game of Thrones, Napoleon and many more. 'As we celebrate 100 years of filmmaking in Malta, we're honored to welcome an exceptional panel of judges who reflect the depth, diversity, and global reach of contemporary cinema. Together with our festival curator, Mark Adams, we're committed to shaping a program that not only honors Malta's cinematic past but also champions bold new voices from across the Mediterranean and beyond,' said Calleja in a statement. Added Malta film commissioner Johann Grech: 'The Mediterrane Film Festival was born from a simple yet powerful idea – to connect creative minds from the Mediterranean and across Europe and transform their ideas into reality. We stand for opportunity, collaboration and creativity.' Emma Stone and Husband Dave McCary List USD 26.5 Million Home for Sale; Is Their Busy Life Straining the Marriage?

It seems that actress Emma Stone and her husband, Dave McCary, are looking for buyers for their luxurious house in Texas, according to a report by TMZ. The couple has put their property in Austin on the market. Even though the construction of the house is not completely finished yet, TMZ mentioned that Stone and McCary have listed their house for USD 26.5 million. The actress and her spouse were building the house in Tarrytown, which is one of Austin's nicest areas. Additionally, the said estate is situated just a half mile from a boat ramp in Lake Austin, according to the outlet. With four bedrooms, a garage that consists of a screening room and entertainment area above, along with the two-bedroom guest house, the property sits at 1.24 acres, according to the publication. The place also comes with a pool. As far as the construction goes, it is slated to be finished this summer, per the publication. Based on the pictures, it reportedly appears that the place is almost finished. As of now, it is not clear why the couple is selling this place. This comes amid the speculations that the couple's marriage may be in trouble. Stone and her husband have launched Fruit Tree Productions and reportedly have a deal with Universal Pictures and are producing eight TV shows and films, including A Real Pain. According to Radar outlet, a source previously claimed that the actress has 'wondered, even with their success, if it was a good idea to become business partners with Dave.' They added that these days, the couple's discussions are more 'boardroom than bedroom, and that zaps the spice out of a marriage.' The insider reportedly further said that the Poor Things star 'sees success forming cracks in her marriage,' adding that especially her name is bigger than her husband's and his 'ego gets hurt when power brokers only want to take meetings with her.' The source claimed about Stone fearing that with the success of their business, 'their marriage could become another casualty of Hollywood.'

Pedro Pascal Helps Emma Stone As She Fights a Bee at Cannes 2025

At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, a bee stole the spotlight, and Emma Stone had to take the help of her co-stars, Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler, to save the day. The unexpected red carpet incident happened during the premiere of Eddington, Ari Aster's upcoming film, which brought a star-studded cast to the event. A routine photo op turned into a hilarious showdown at Cannes 2025 when a bee decided to join the Eddington cast on the red carpet. Videos from the event show Pedro Pascal spotting the insect first, blowing air towards it to shoo it away. Emma Stone immediately noticed his reaction and mouthed, 'Is that a bee?' When Pascal confirmed her suspicions, Stone alerted Butler, who tried to help by blowing the bee away, only to accidentally redirect it toward her. The Poor Things actress dramatically ducked as the bee swooped near her face, prompting Pascal to laugh while shielding her. Butler then joined in, waving the insect away until it finally buzzed off. The viral moment led to endless memes and edits online. One user dubbed it ''Emma Stone vs The Bee' a short film.' While another wrote, 'Oh my god i LOVE this picture Emma Stone trying to back off from flying at her bee Pedro Pascal wheezing at the scene and Austin Butler just there serving jawline and side profile.' The incident added a touch of levity to the otherwise intense premiere of Eddington, a Western film set in pandemic-era New Mexico. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as a small-town sheriff and Pascal as a mayor caught in a tense community standoff. Stone and Butler also play key roles in the film, which explores the psychological unraveling of a town during lockdown. Originally reported by Devanshi Basu on ComingSoon.
