Porsche 993 Reimagined: Gunther Werks GWX
California tuning house Gunther Werks has once again reimagine the Porsche 993 with its latest model, the GWX. Not only does it represent the pinnacle of the lineup, thanks to cutting-edge technologies and materials, the GWX is an ultra-exclusive model precious few will fact, Gunther Werks says production is capped to a mere three units. Only those invited by the company have the opportunity to purchase one, adding to its exclusive nature. You might notice the look of the GWX is unique. That's in part thanks to numerous bespoke carbon-fiber body panels found nowhere else. Optimized for aerodynamics and optimal downforce, they're made to function and look good. Those exclusive body panels include the vented front fenders, side skirts, rear quarter panels, hood, front bumper, rear diffuser, rear bumper, and rear wing with decklid ram air scoop. Also setting the GWX apart visually from other Porsche 993s is the bespoke paint developed by Gunther Werks, called Candy Purple. The hue will only be applied to the GWX and no other build. Paired with silver pinstriping and exposed herringbone carbon-fiber weave down the middle of the car from bumper to bumper, it makes a striking statement. Under the skin is a 4.0-liter flat-six with 440-horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque on tap. The engine is based on the one used for the Gunther Werks Coupe, with some of the advanced technologies from the GWR applied. But the engine also contains a new design that's exclusive to the GXR: advanced sliding throttle body plates. Providing ultra-quick throttle response, the feature doesn't block airflow at all at wide-open throttle, improving performance. 'Our new GWX takes all we have learned with remastering the Porsche 911 platform and pushes it even further,' said Peter Nam, CEO and founder of Gunther Werks. 'We are extremely excited to offer this pinnacle of performance to our most loyal customers and continue to showcase our technical prowess with our newest offerings.' Images via Gunther Werks

Will This Flooded Porsche 993 Carrera Ever Be The Same?
Read the full story on Backfire News Most people would give up on this 1995 Porsche 993 Carrera after it sat submerged in a river for over four years. After all, the thing not only suffered extensive water damage and exposure to the minerals in the river silt, there's serious collision damage to the front end, all down the passenger side, and to the driver's side rear other words, this Porsche 911, the last of the air cooled models, is a complete mess. But one man saw potential and took on the formidable project. Instead of just rushing through, he did the whole thing the hard, yet correct, way. That alone is admirable. Just cleaning up the classic Porsche must have been a time-consuming, frustrating task. He had to disassemble what was left of the car, finding mud caked in every nook and cranny. And once that was all cleaned up, he was faced with a trashed powertrain, trashed drivetrain, trashed body, and trashed interior, all disassembled. This is how you repair a car that's been flooded. Some people just get the engine running again, hose it down, and call it good. But mold could be growing in the carpeting or noise insulation, and you wouldn't find out until much further down the road. Doing a complete disassembly is sadly necessary, even though it's time consuming. First, he worked to straighten out the damage to the body panels and chassis, replacing sections that were too damaged. Then it had to be repainted. Next was getting the axles, suspension, etc. back on the car. The guy had to dig all the river crud out of the flat-six and transaxle, plus address corrosion buildup. That, combined with rebuilding the engine and transmission, was a tall task, but the guy navigated it. He took care of all the other systems on the car, including the brakes and all the electrical, installed the interior, added BBS wheels, and created something special. Where most people would've relegated the Porsche 993 to the scrapyard at best, this man made sure to resurrect it from a watery death, giving the classic car new life.
