‘He's an absolute born winner': Liverpool legend backs Ange
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has decreed soccer needs Ange Postecoglou, and he hopes the Australian coach remains in the English Premier League for a long time to come, even if Tottenham Hotspur end his time as manager. The former Reds striker played for North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory and coached Brisbane Roar, before COVID-19 disruptions and issues with club ownership resulted in his departure after 22 games. It was during his Fury season in 2010-2011 that Fowler first encountered Postecoglou, who coached the Roar to both the premiership and championship. Postecoglou has faced mounting calls to be sacked as Spurs plummeted to 17th place in the Premier League this season, but victory in the Europa League final provided a potential lifeline for the under-siege Australian. Fowler believes the Europa League triumph should give Spurs a strong reason to keep Postecoglou but even if they axe him, Fowler remains a huge fan. 'You will get people who write him off because a club that size should be getting better results,' Fowler said. 'But I'm not one of those people. I've followed his career all the way from Brisbane and he's an absolute born winner. 'He's an incredible manager; someone the game needs. You see his expertise in his coaching and in his press conferences. He's someone I've got a lot of time for.

Spurs will only let Son leave for significant fee
PA Media/dpa London Tottenham will only listen to significant offers for captain Son Heung-min this summer amid renewed interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, the PA news agency understands. Son was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia two years ago, but rejected advances to stick around for the start of Ange Postecoglou's tenure. Postecoglou subsequently named Son as Spurs captain and last month the South Korean forward led the team to Europa League success to achieve his goal of winning silverware at the club. Speculation over Son's future has been rife during his 10th season at Tottenham and whilst the club triggered a 12-month option in his deal in January, he is set to enter the final year of his contract in July. Son will also turn 33 next month and was affected by injury problems during the 2024-25 campaign, but the Premier League club will only let their talismanic skipper leave for a significant transfer fee, PA understands. Spurs are set to visit South Korea again later this summer for pre-season - the third time in four years they have travelled to Son's homeland to prepare for a new campaign. Even though Son - who is currently on international duty - only managed 11 goals last term, which is his lowest return since his debut season, his global status offers enormous commercial value to the club. Son is not the only key figure with an uncertain future with no clarity over head coach Postecoglou, who remains in the dark as to whether he will get a third season at Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou speaks out on message to Spurs fans during Europa League parade
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Ange Postecoglou has urged Tottenham to not 'settle' for their Europa League success amid uncertainty over his own future at the club. The 59-year-old guided Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years as his side sealed a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final last month. But Postecoglou's future was in major doubt before the historic victory in Bilbao due to Spurs' abysmal form in the Premier League. A 4-1 loss at home to Brighton on the final day of the season ensured Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League, with only the relegated trio of Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City losing more games. However, during Spurs' Europa League trophy parade in front of thousands of fans, Postecoglou gave the clearest indication yet that he would be staying at the clubfor a third campaign as he declared: 'All the best television series… season three is better than season two.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Despite his message to supporters, it's understood that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is still yet to make a final decision over Postecoglou's future. When asked what he meant by his message during Spurs' trophy parade, Postecoglou said on a documentary for Australia's ABC News: 'I didn't want us to just enjoy the moment, I also wanted us to think about what's next. More Trending 'Don't settle for this. We've got a taste of it now, my players have got a taste for it, the club has got a taste for it, well, well, let's make sure we're back here again.' Postecoglou also revealed that figures inside Spurs were also 'fearing the worst' ahead of the Europa League final. 'We're talking about a club who lost three finals before, in the last 17 years had made eight or nine semi-finals, that's not a great record in big games,' Postecoglou said. 'There were a lot of people around the club, trust me, who were fearing the worst, probably our supporters as well.' For more stories like this, check our sport page.
