SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A family is grieving the loss of their father and brother after a collision took their lives Friday in Poway. Marcial Rivera, 59 and his son, Emmanuel Rivera, 32, were killed in a three-vehicle collision near Iron Mountain Drive that claimed the lives of five people. Their family says the two worked for a local landscaping company and were on their way to a job. The family shared video captured by a passing Tesla that shows a pickup truck hit the other vehicles head-on in the opposite lanes of traffic, which included Rivera's son's pickup truck. The family is hoping to raise awareness about the dangers of Highway 67. Man fatally struck by car on SR-67 in Ramona, CHP says Emmanuel Rivera's girlfriend is five months pregnant and figuring out how to cope with welcoming a newborn baby without him. Marcial Rivera and his wife, Regina, were married 35 years and had five children together. Family members say Rivera was a hard worker and a devoted man of God. A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family pay for funeral expenses and other needs. An all day fundraiser that's open to the public will take place Sunday starting at 7 a.m. at 31440 Valley Center Road in Valley Center. SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities Tuesday evening released more information on a fiery crash in Poway that left five people dead Friday afternoon. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office reports three vehicles were involved in the deadly crash that happened at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, on State Route 67, north of Iron Mountain Drive and east of the city of Poway. Five people die in crash near Poway that sparked a brush fire The sheriff's department reports a Chevy Silverado pickup truck was traveling north when, for reasons still under investigation, the driver crossed into oncoming traffic at a high-rate of speed. The pickup truck collided head-on with a white Honda Civic with one person inside that was heading south on SR-67, while a Toyota Tacoma with three people inside was unable to stop and collided with the Honda Civic, the sheriff's department reports. Family mourns father and son lost in Poway crash that killed 5 The force of the collision sent one vehicle down a ravine and sparked a small brush fire along the highway that was quickly doused by firefighters but heavily damaged the vehicles. The sheriff's department reports all five people in the three vehicles died at the scene. Detectives are investigating what caused the pickup truck to veer into oncoming traffic and are reviewing video they received from a passing Tesla that shows the pickup truck hit the other vehicles head-on in the opposite lanes of traffic. While the family has since identified two of the victims— Marcial Rivera, 59 and his son, Emmanuel Rivera, 32 — and has set up a GoFundMe and is planning a Sunday fundraiser, the names of the other three victims have yet to be released by authorities. POWAY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A motorcyclist is dead after a head-on crash on State Route 67 in Poway Saturday morning. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department reports a 22-year-old man died at State Route 67 and Ellie Lane in the City of Poway after his motorcycle collided head-on with a Ford truck towing a boat around 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Motorcyclist, 20, injured in collision with SUV Poway Fire and paramedics performed life-saving measures, but the motorcyclist died at the scene, according to the sheriff's department. He has not yet been identified pending family notifications. Poway Station traffic investigators are investigating the crash and whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor. POWAY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at a checkpoint in Poway on Friday night, authorities said. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, deputies conducted the roadblock in the 12700 block of Poway Road into the night. A total of 484 vehicles traveled into the checkpoint and authorities said 31 motorists were sent for a secondary evaluation. DUI patrol, seat belt enforcement ramped up ahead of Memorial Day Seven drivers conducted field sobriety tests, though only two were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, the sheriff's office confirmed. Additionally, six drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended license, another seven were cited for not having their driver license in their possession, and one driver was cited for a traffic signal violation. 'DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,' authorities noted in a press release. 'The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.' Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
