TeTTo evolves from a supper club to a fully-fledged dining destination in Abu Dhabi
Located in MiZa, Mina Zayed, it will open in the summer. The UAE is home to spectacular supper clubs. Now, TeTTo is expanding from a supper club to a restaurant. The venture started in an Abu Dhabi home and will now be a fully-fledged restaurant in MiZa, Mina Zayed. Scheduled to open in summer 2025, here's what you need to know. The TeTTo concept was initially dinner between friends, but it grew into a paid supper club experience. The founders explained: 'There was a dinner, then that dinner became two dinners and then three dinners, and then it became a supper club. It was for one night, then it was five and then it was 30'. TeTTo in Abu Dhabi is currently under construction. The venue draws inspiration from the original, imitate supper club experience, and gives diners a chance to see the chefs at work. The tables will be close to the chefs, which provides an Insta-worthy experience. The full menu for TeTTo in Abu Dhabi has not yet been unveiled. So far, we know that it will be inspired by the founders' families, and personal meals. The menu will not be driven by trends, instead food that they themselves love. MiZa — short for Mina Zayed — pays homage to one of Abu Dhabi's most historic neighbourhoods. Located along the waterfront, Mina Zayed has long been a trade hub and a significant part of the capital's maritime heritage. Now, the space has been reimagined as a community space designed for entrepreneurs, creatives and, of course, restaurateurs. It recently played host to the first-ever Prada Mode in the capital. Prada Mode Doubles Down With Two-location Event in Osaka and Inujima Island
MILAN — On the heels of the recently successful event in Abu Dhabi, Prada Mode is already embarking on its next destination: Japan. The 12th iteration of the architectural and cultural activation will take place between June 4 and 15 in Osaka and Inujima, the latter an island located in the Japanese Seto Inland Sea near Naoshima and once an industrial hub converted into a cultural hot spot since 2008. More from WWD Inside Mi Shang, Prada's First Culinary Project in China Prada Expands New York Footprint With Dedicated Men's Store on Fifth Avenue EXCLUSIVE: Prada Frames' 2025 Edition to Discuss Mobility Inside Gio Ponti-designed Train The longer, two-location event is the result of a partnership with Kazuyo Sejima, the cofounder of architecture and design firm SANAA and a frequent Prada collaborator, having tied up with the Italian luxury brand in 2023 for Prada Mode in Tokyo and the 'Paraventi: Folding Screens From the 17th to 21st Centuries' exhibit at Fondazione Prada. Before that, she was among the creatives tasked in 2019 to design a Prada bag as part of the 'Invites' project. Sejima has had a crucial role in spearheading the renaissance of Inujima, tasked by the Fukutake Foundation, which manages the Benesse Art Site in Naoshima to reimagine and reshape the island. Prada Mode will pay homage to her work, mounting a dedicated exhibition filled with scale models, videos and other materials at the SANAA-designed pavilion located in Umekita Park in Osaka to spotlight her transformational projects as part of its Prada Mode's cultural programming. Furthering the event's link with the architect and scholar Sejima, Prada Mode is to be preceded by Inujima Project, a multiday preview tour of the island filled with guided visits, as well as musical and artistic events curated by the designer and taking place at historic buildings and spaces. These include a first look at the permanent pavilion at Inujima Life Garden, designed by Sejima and donated to the island by Prada. 'On Inujima, a tiny island rich in nature, visitors will encounter and experience Symbiosis, a landscape that combines history, architecture, art and daily life. In Osaka, a city with historical ties to Inujima, this experience will be shared and expanded to reach a wider audience,' said Sejima. 'At this edition of Prada Mode, Symbiosis will take shape through conversations and discoveries, creating a new landscape that continues to grow with the participation of all,' she added. After Inujima Project wraps up on June 6, Prada Mode Osaka follows stretching until June 15. Earlier this year, Prada Mode traveled to Abu Dhabi, as reported, taking place on Feb. 11 and 12 at the MiZa district in the United Arab Emirates' city's Mina Zayed neighborhood. It was developed in collaboration with multidisciplinary artist Theaster Gates, with whom the Italian luxury brands had already collaborated twice on earlier versions of the event. Last year, Prada Mode touched down in Los Angeles, presenting the third edition of The Double Club, a project by Carsten Höller, in collaboration with Luna Luna at the Luna Luna Studio. In 2023 Prada Mode took place in association with the Tokyo metropolitan government and the Teien Art Museum, one of Japan's main institutions. It was hosted and curated by Sejima. The inaugural Prada Mode was staged during Art Basel Miami Beach in 2018. The following year the format touched down at Art Basel Hong Kong and Frieze London, while in 2020 Prada brought the members' club to Paris and to Shanghai, where the brand invited producer, director and writer Jia Zhangke to transform the Prada Rong Zhai villa with a site-specific installation called 'Miàn' based on his cinematic work. In 2021, the COVID-19-disrupted edition in Moscow was held in December, while in February 2022 the format touched down in Los Angeles during Frieze featuring a collaboration with artist Martine Syms. In November 2022, Prada Mode headed to Dubai with a reprise of Damien Hirst's 'Pharmacy' installation at the ICD Brookfield Place, a skyscraper designed by Foster + Partners in the heart of the city's International Financial Centre. Past iterations featured works and installations by several artists, directors and photographers, such as Jamie Diamond, Kate Crawford, Trevor Paglen, Lee Sook-Kyung, Kim Jee-Woon, Yeon Sang-ho and Jeong Dahee, in addition to Gates, Zhangke, Hirst and Syms, among others. Prada Mode Abu Dhabi ‘is a place for humanity', says curator Theaster Gates
Prada Mode has taken over a space in Abu Dhabi's MiZa district. The event has been curated by American multidisciplinary artist Theaster Gates. Gates lives and works in Chicago where he is a professor at the University of Chicago in the department of visual arts and the college. But his work has shaped his city in many ways, with a practice focused on space theory, land development, sculpture and performance. Drawing on his interest and experience in urban planning and preservation, Gates 'redeems spaces that have been left behind'. This is particularly apt in MiZa, which, while it has never been left behind is certainly undergoing a regeneration – and finding a new purpose – as a home for the creative industries. This is the third time Gates has worked with Prada Mode on a curatorial mission. 'The first one was a celebration of the black image. The second one was a celebration of black and brown people in London, almost like one of my black artists retreats,' explains Gates. 'And this one is a celebration of the Middle East and the UAE.' 'The company is amazing to work with,' he says of Prada. 'The production team is an amazing production team. If it were just a party, it would probably not be my jam.' Gates certainly has bigger ambitions for the project than a simple space to party. The space he has created offers two tonally and sonically distinct experiences - one encased in a square, the other in a circle. The cylindrical structure is reserved for performances that require quiet and active listening from the audience, while the square operates as a more freeform space, open to conversations and chatter. 'It's a place for humanity, it's a place for all of the diasporic folk of this region to come home and to share their ideas, to share how they are changed, to share how they're even more nuanced than when they left so I'm excited to learn,' says Gates, alluding to many of the guests and performers from the Arab diaspora. Musicians Saint Levant and Bayou were also spotted at the event. 'Folk love Prada,' says Gates. 'We're here because a brand has an amazing connection here. On one level, it's Prada saying 'thank you' to its constituents. And then when given the charge, Prada Mode can be anything the artist wants. If the artist is bombastic, it can be a bombastic situation. But I tried to listen to Abu Dhabi first.' Gates is well-known for his large-scale urban regeneration projects in Chicago, which blur the line between art and property development. One thing his works have in common is their desire to bring people together. "I think in some ways the goal of Prada Mode is to bring these disparate worlds that normally wouldn't come together, together,' he says. Art may not unify "but it can congregate" and bring in people from other places, he adds. Prior to Tuesday's opening of the space – which acts as a travelling members' club – Gates spent time discovering the emirate, in particular, the Mina Zayed area. 'You can feel that there's a real desire to say 'yes' to culture in new ways,' he says. He believes Abu Dhabi is still developing its cultural independence and voice and being involved in the city's efforts to celebrate its local culture is meaningful, as it helps showcase and nurture the creative scene. 'Seeking and searching was part of what made a person's humanity so deep and now we have everything at our fingertips,' he says, while he ponders one of the event's themes focused on interiority in a time of overwhelming technology. He certainly seems to be on a mission of seeking during his sojourn in Abu Dhabi. 'What do I think I could learn from an Islamic country?" he says. "I think I can learn the importance of having a life of ritual that is consistently seeking god all day every day, right?' 'We've already borrowed from India, we've already borrowed yoga as a meditative practice,' he says of this hunger within him, but wider Western societies want something they can't quite put their finger on. 'They're hungry for an interior life and they're hungry to connect their minds and their bodies.' Gates once said that when art is present, things are better. But is this always the case, even when he thinks of the difficult time the region and the world are going through? 'I really believe that there are so many other agencies and entities that could precede the artist in being at a front line of some sort,' he says. 'You know there was a time when I was a bit more outdoorsy than I am now. "When you pitch a tent, you just start with one stake. It's like a point in geometry. You need a point. I think that there are moments when artists can be a necessary first point, a locational point. Somebody has a stake and they put it in the ground.' Prada Mode is open as a member-only club on Tuesday and Wednesday and opens to the public on Thursday and Friday

This will be the third Prada Mode pop-up brought to life through Gates' vision, with the artist also behind Prada Mode's debuts in Miami in 2018 and London in 2019. Visually, the pop-up is set to focus on minimal and analogue, a rebellion against the digitally driven and AI-focused society we currently live in. The space is described as a 'manifestation of duality, rooted in ideas of elegant austerity, historic craft, and sacred immediacy.' On the programming front, music, workshops and talks will focus on both local and regional talent, with conversations and performances designed to highlight the traditions, creativity and successes of Arab women. The culinary also contributes to the local flavour, and renowned female chef Salam Dakkak, the chef and owner behind beloved Bait Maryam and newly opened Sufret Maryam, will create the menu. What to expect at Prada Mode Abu Dhabi: Art, architecture, music, talks and a homage to what makes us human
Prada Mode, the Italian fashion house's travelling social club celebrating contemporary culture, arrives in Abu Dhabi for the first time this week with an event running from Tuesday to Friday. Taking place in the Miza neighbourhood in Mina Zayed, it is the second time the club has made its way to the UAE, following a successful debut in 2022 in Dubai's ICD Brookfield. While a travelling art exhibit from a fashion brand might surprise some, Prada has always been about than just fashion. Its roots extend deep into the art world thanks to the Fondazione Prada, its cultural museum in Milan. For this Prada Mode, the 11th event to take place globally, the brand has enlisted Theaster Gates, an American multidisciplinary artist, to create the space and Myrna Ayad, an art advisor from the UAE, to curate the programming. Examining the role of art and the human experience in a world increasingly dominated by AI and technology, together Prada Mode and Gates have devised a programme that looks to celebrate the many facets of what it is to be a person, from the ability to think and ponder, to the desire for celebration and togetherness. 'As we increasingly exist in a world where computer-generated possibilities govern our reality, my concept for Prada Mode Abu Dhabi is a homage to our interiority, the human hand and our spiritual contributions to the rich cultural histories of this region," says Gates, who is working on his third Prada Mode with the brand. "I'm honoured to host Prada Mode Abu Dhabi, deepening my relationship with Prada as a cultural institution invested in global dialogue and creative excellence, and celebrating the artistic traditions and futures of Abu Dhabi.' Manifesting as a space divided in two by a site-specific installation composed of a cylindrical structure, each area will offer different experiences. The interior of the cylindrical structure is dedicated to fostering conversation and introspection through acoustic music sets, while outside the wall, a more "boisterous atmosphere" is promised with live performances and DJ sets. 'This space is a reflection on the spiritual possibilities of quietude, the power of gathering, the contiguity between the aesthetic of the past and their relevance for the future, and reverence for Arab women,' explains Gates. The music has been co-curated by Gates and NTS Radio, a global online radio platform launched in 2011 in London's Hackney by Femi Adeyemi. In addition, a cultural programme has been curated by Myrna Ayad that will highlight the contributions of Arab women, through local and regional talent. The culinary world has not been overlooked either, with chef Salam Dakkak creating food that highlights the diverse diasporic communities found in Abu Dhabi and across the UAE. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the space will be a private members club and will be open to the public on Thursday and Friday.
