CRPF jawan from Assam, 2 Maoists killed in J'khand gunfight

1 2 3 Bokaro/Guwahati: A CRPF jawan from Assam and two Maoists were killed in a fierce gunfight that took place in Jharkhand's Bokaro district on Wednesday morning. The operation was conducted jointly by the CRPF and police in the Birhordera forest under the jurisdiction of Gomia police station. Praneshwar Koch, a jawan of the CRPF's elite CoBRA 209 battalion, sustained injuries during the operation and was airlifted to a hospital in Ranchi, where the doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. He was a native of Magurmari village in lower Assam's Kokrajhar district. Jharkhand governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and senior bureaucrats and police officers of the state offered their tributes to Koch's mortal remains at the CRPF's 133 battalion in Ranchi in the evening. One of the the deceased Maoist operatives has been identified as Kunwar Manjhi, also known by his aliases Sahdev and Sade. Kunwar, a senior Special Zonal Committee Member (SZCM), was wanted in 28 criminal cases across Bokaro and Hazaribag districts. The identity of the other deceased is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, the news of Praneshwar's untimely death left his parents devastated. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in a post on his X handle stated, "Assam's braveheart and Maa Bharti's son CT/GD Parneswar Koch of Kokrajhar attained martyrdom fighting naxals in Jharkhand, early this morning. The people of Assam salute his sacrifice and offer our thoughts and prayers to his family. We will always be there to support them and this sacrifice will not go in vain as our forces unleash their power to eliminate naxalism from the face of the earth. " Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Pramod Bodo also mentioned about Koch's sacrifice and offered his prayers and condolences to his family. CRPF DG GP Singh, the former DG of Assam Police, wrote on X, "Koch attained martyrdom this morning in an Anti-Naxal Operation where two Naxals were also neutralised. Entire CRPF family would remember his sacrifice and re-dedicate ourselves to eliminate the scourge of Naxalism from our country. Rest in Peace, Brother."
