No secrets from law, Karnataka HC raps PhonePe on lost money
BENGALURU: Noting that privacy should be maintained but cannot be wielded as a shield against lawful investigation, High Court dismissed the petition filed by PhonePe Private Limited, questioning the summons issued by CEN police of Bengaluru Rural District to provide details of transactions of the complainant, who lost money after paying through several payment gateways for cricket betting. 'The submissions of the petitioner's counsel that information that is to be kept confidential need not be divulged, cannot be accepted. The protection of consumer privacy cannot eclipse the lawful imperative of investigating officers to secure evidence and take the investigation to its logical conclusion. Confidentiality must coexist with accountability,' said Justice M Nagaprasanna, rejecting the petition filed by PhonePe Private Limited. It further said that today, conventional crimes have receded and new-age crimes have sprung up in large numbers. New-age crimes are cybercrimes, modern offences which demand a swift, and effective response. The police must be empowered within the limits of law to unearth digital footprints that could otherwise vanish. Therefore, while privacy as contended by the petitioner should be maintained, it cannot be wielded as a shield against lawful investigation, the court said. CEN police issued summons dated December 7, 2022, to PhonePe to provide details after receiving a complaint from Prashanth, a resident of Chikkamagaluru district, that he lost funds while transacting through several payment gateways for cricket betting. However, PhonePe contended that it is protected under the Bankers' Books Evidence Act, 1891, and cannot divulge the information.

Telangana man tries to pull off Dragon movie-like scam to land job at software company; gets caught in 15 days
Anyone who has watched Ashwath Marimuthu's Pradeep Ranganathan-starrer Dragon remembers the scene that exposes innovative ways youngsters cheat during video interviews to land jobs. A TOI report states that a Telangana man tried to pull off a similar scam even before the film was released, only to be caught in 15 days. (Also Read: Simbu plays manmadhan in my film, reveals Dragon director Ashwath Marimuthu) The report states that a software engineer from Telangana, Rapa Sai Prashanth, used an impostor to land a job at Infosys in Bengaluru. However, the man in his 20s was caught in 15 days, and the company terminated his job after they noticed inconsistencies. A complaint was also filed at Adugodi police station for cheating and impersonation under the IT Act and sections 318 and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A senior police officer told the publication, 'Prashanth is from Telangana. After he was sacked from work, he went to Hyderabad. However, he insists that he be paid for his 15 days of work. We're trying to nab him.' Kishore, the accounts manager of Sampradaa Software Technologies, which offers recruitment services to Infosys, filed the complaint. The complaint states that Prashanth got his friend to impersonate him during the virtual interview with the company. He got his offer letter on January 2, but Infosys noticed someone else had appeared for the interview instead of Prashanth after he began working. For the unversed, Pradeep's D Raghavan, aka Dragon, gives big bucks to an agency to help him land a job. After obtaining a fake degree, he cheats during the video interview, which is set up in a fake bedroom at the agency. An imposter speaks for him in fluent English as he pretends to lip-sync during the interview, successfully cheating Gautham Vasudev Menon's Vale Kumar. Eventually, he admits to his mistakes at the film's end when he is overcome by guilt.

Telangana Man Pulls Off Pradeep Ranganathan's Dragon-Inspired Job Scam, Disappears Without A Trace
Life imitates art, they say — but in this case, it's full-on cosplay! Reportedly, a man in Telangana pulled off a scam similar to Pradeep Ranganathan's Dragon. Well, this one's straight out of a movie… quite literally. Remember Dragon, the 2025 Pradeep Ranganathan-starrer that hit theatres on February 21? Turns out, the film's central scam plot wasn't just entertaining but it's also now eerily real. And we mean real real. Reportedly, Rapa Sai Prashanth, a techie from Telangana, allegedly decided to take a page (or the whole chapter) from Dragon. According to a Times of India report, Prashanth landed a job at Infosys by… wait for it… having someone else attend his virtual interview. It was a full-on identity swap, complete with fake credentials. He bagged the offer letter on January 20, 2025, and started working soon after. But here's where it gets interesting. While the 'interview version" of him was smooth and confident, the 'on-the-job" Prashanth apparently struggled with basic communication. The Infosys HR decided to dig a little deeper and did a comparison of interview screenshots and his company ID photo. This is when they realised that it wasn't even the same person! The man reportedly posed as someone else and faked his qualifications to land the job. They allegedly found out that a completely different person had shown up for the virtual interview on Prashanth's behalf. Prashanth's contract was promptly terminated just 15 days after the truth came out. And as for the man himself? He's now absconding! As for Dragon, the Pradeep Ranganathan starrer follows the journey of a struggling young man with no formal education, leaning heavily on his friends and girlfriend to get by until life flips on its head when she walks away. These twists push him toward a risky shortcut as he forges certificates to land a cushy job. For a while, it all seems to work until his past catches up. His old college principal sniffs out the lie and throws him a harsh ultimatum: finish your education or watch it all fall apart. What follows is an emotional rollercoaster as he fights to set things right. With Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead, Dragon also stars Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar in pivotal roles.
