Luke Littler warns rivals he's going nowhere as he tackles retirement chatter head on

The World Champion insists he is not intending to walk away from the sport anytime soon Motivated Luke Littler has warned his rivals he's going nowhere and will be around for a long time. The teenage sensation is gunning for a second-straight BetMGM Premier League crown to add to his World Championship title. ‌ Littler's rise has been meteoric, but rival and pal Nathan Aspinall has claimed the kid is already getting fed up with the schedule. ‌ The Stockport star stated on a radio show that he feels The Nuke might have had enough of it all and five years time and walk away from the sport to pursue other activities. But Littler responded to that notion by saying: 'I've heard that! I'll be here in 10 years. "Obviously, it's crazy to even think about retiring at the minute. Obviously, I think what they're saying is that if we win 16 titles in the next 16 World Championships, then obviously I will retire! ‌ "I don't think of any retirement at the minute. Obviously, the money, it's there to be won, especially the World Championships now. "But not only that, everything has gone up. It's all about what you're feeling and I'm sure I'll be here for a long time.' ‌ Fired-up Littler admits it would 'mean everything' to emulate Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen and win back-to-back Premier Leagues. He added: 'It's obviously my first big TV title defence, but you've just got to look forward to the first semi-final against Gerwyn [Price] and, obviously, see what happens there. There might be nerves, there might not be.' Littler has matured quickly and is now having to cope with some stick having always been the fans' darling when he started out. ‌ He got grief in Germany recently and smiled: 'I wouldn't say it's upset me. "I've done what Gerwyn Price always does, go on Instagram, have a bit of a moan and take it down half an hour later! "With that many followers, so many people see it. Take it down and just refresh and go again!' ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. The midfield ace was given the fondest of farewells at the Etihad as he helped the Blues defeat the Cherries 3-1 before being summoned off the bench for an emotional cameo in the 2-0 win at Fulham, a result that guaranteed Champions League football for a 15th consecutive season. Kevin may not be here to participate in that elite European competition next season but you know the skipper has played his part in helping us qualify for it once again. The retro look is apt because when we ourselves reminisce in years to come about the greatest players to have represented Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne's name will be very much front and centre.

'Quality was there to do something special this season'

Liverpool boss Arne Slot say it is has now "sunk in" that they are Premier League champions. The Reds wrapped up the title with four games remaining when they beat Tottenham 5-1 on 27 April. Despite form dropping off since the win, it has still been an impressive debut season for the Dutchman - who only took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer. "The moment the referee blew his whistle, we were like: 'Wow, this has really happened', but now, after all the celebrations, it's definitely sunk in," Slot told BBC sports editor Dan Roan. "It's an achievement that we hoped for, that we worked really hard for. But, to say we expected it, or I expected it, would be a bit too much." Given the dominance Manchester City had exerted over recent years - having won four Premier Leagues in a row - not many expected Slot to bring such early success. "Before I came in, before I started to work with the players, I thought similar to the club, that we had to qualify for the Champions League again," he said. "There are a lot of things you have to find out [when you start]. But that the quality was there to do something special this season? That I knew quite fast. Not only the quality, but definitely also the mentality. "I didn't have to repair any confidence because a few of [the players] had already won the league, a few had won the Champions League, one of them was a World Cup winner - [Alexis] Mac Allister. "So the players that play at this level know they can win trophies and one of them is the Premier League." Hear more from Slot's chat with BBC sports editor Dan Roan Watch on BBC iPlayer

'About Time Somebody Let Me Talk': De Bruyne Recalls Hilarious 2017 Incident During Man City Farewell

Curated By : Siddarth Sriram Last Updated: May 21, 2025, 15:51 IST Kevin De Bruyne hilariously recalled his infamous tirade from 2017 during his Manchester City farewell (X) It's the end of an era at the Etihad. Well, it seems now was the time someone finally let Kevin De Bruyne talk. The departing Manchester City midfielder finally found the moment to relive the spirited episode from 2017 on a lighthearted and nostalgic note as he bid farewell to the Etihad faithful in their final home game of the season. City said goodbye to their club legend following their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night, with the club putting on a special post-match presentation in honour of De Bruyne. After receiving a guard of honour from teammates, watching a montage on the big screen, and taking in his adoring fans chanting his name, the Belgian showed a rare bit of emotion. When handed the mic to address the crowd, De Bruyne lightened the mood with a hilarious note, recalling his iconic tantrum. 'I think after 10 years, it was about time that somebody let me talk a bit," the Belgian cheekily stated, as the crowd burst into laughter. 'It's time to say goodbye. I will be back, we (De Bruyne and his family) love you, and we'll see you soon." The incident he reminisced about with his witty anecdote was from 2017, when De Bruyne was held away from the match referee at half-time in a Champions League group stage match against Napoli. City were 2-0 up going into the break, but De Bruyne had been booked moments before the whistle and had to be shepherded off the pitch by David Silva and Fernandinho as he shouted, 'Let me talk!" When asked about the incident in an earlier interview with Bleacher Report, De Bruyne said, 'You see I'm an angry man on the pitch.' 'I think there was something with the referee where I got a yellow card, and I wanted to ask him, 'Why the hell did you give me a yellow card?' 'When I'm playing, inside of me, it's like two different Kevins. On the pitch, sometimes I'm a little b*stard!" He scored 108 goals and provided 177 assists in over 400 appearances to leave his mark as one of the Premier League's greatest players.
