WWE SmackDown results (7/18/2025): A chaotic contract signing with John Cena and Cody Rhodes, Stephanie Vaquer wins, and more

Cody Rhodes and John Cena (Image via WWE) With SummerSlam a little over two weeks away, WWE is full steam ahead. And this means, this week's Friday Night SmackDown is basically a stepping stone for the upcoming Premium Live Event. From the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, the July 18 edition of SmackDown was already going to be an important one, as fans already knew of John Cena and Cody Rhodes coming together to sign their SummerSlam contract. Along with these two heavyweights, fans also got to feast on some exciting match cards, so let's get in with it already. The night started with a segment starring the MFTs, who had been in a car accident. SmackDown GM Adam Pearce and a few cops are seen talking to the stable where Solo Sikoa asks Pearce to get Jacob Fatu. But soon enough, the night moves towards its first fight when Charlotte Flair is seen backstage with Alexa Bliss , where the former tells the latter that she has gotten them a shot at the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles at SummerSlam. Charlotte Flair vs. Raquel Rodriguez Charlotte Flair and Raquel Rodriguez face each other inside the ring while Alexa Bliss and Roxanne Perez are standing outside. Both women seem to have a similar standing in the game, with neither being able to gain an upper hand. Perez tries to launch a sneak attack, but Bliss is there to take care of that. Finally, just when Perez thought she could create a distraction, Bliss hits Rodriguez with one of her pompoms, and Flair uses this opportunity to roll her for a pin and win. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair (Image via WWE) Charlotte Flair wins via pinfall against Raquel Rodriguez. The backstage segment with the MFTs starts again, and the cops take Jacob Fatu with them in suspicion of the accident earlier. Things then turn to Carmelo Hayes and Damian Priest, who, "Earlier Today," we're seen having a confrontation before a fight is announced between them. Carmelo Hayes vs. Damian Priest Carmelo Hayes started with a right hand into Damian Priest's back even before the bell rang, but Priest was not one to take it quietly. He retaliated with a big foot and the tone of the night was set. At the end, Priest slams Hayes face-first into the announce desk, and just as he was about to go for an Old School, Alistair Black shows up and trips Priest. Damian Priest wins against Carmelo Hayes by disqualification Jacob Fatu returns to SmackDown after SNME The MFTs are seen taking to the ring after the alleged car accident, where Solo Sikoa lays it on thick, blaming Jacob Fatu for what went down. But out of nowhere, Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu pop out from a police car, and everyone gets to know that Fatu had been cleared of all suspicion because of security footage. Fatu is inside the ring soon enough, and with Uso sneaking behind the MFTs, all hell breaks loose. Pearce is seen calling the cops when things get out of hand, and Sikoa is seen being led out by the cops for staging the earlier car crash. And the Steel Cage match between Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at SummerSlam is also officially announced. Stephanie Vaquer vs. Alba Fyre Possibly for the shortest match of the night, Stephanie Vaquer faces Alba Fyre of the Secret Hervice with Piper Niven watching. They go after each other from the very beginning, but Vaquer is definitely the one with the upper hand here and soon goes for the Devil's Kiss, and then a package backbreaker. Though Fyre manages to give the slip the first time, the second time becomes too much, and Vaquer manages to get the three count after pinning her. Stephanie Vaquer wins via pinfall against Alba Fyre. Piper Niven, of course, comes after Vaquer, but the latter shoves her off. And though Niven tries to go after her again, Fyre stops her. Meanwhile, the Wyatt Sicks are seen trolling the Street Profits after their loss last week, right before a four-way tag team match is set to take center stage. Andrade and Rey Fenix vs. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Fraxiom vs. #DIY To determine the #1 contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship, #DIY's Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, Rey Fenix & Andrade tag team, Fraxiom's Nathan Frazer and Axiom, and Motor City Machine Guns' Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley take to the ring. MCMG and Fraxiom are at it when #DIY jumps them. This brings Andrade and Rey Fenix into the mix as well. It's chaos inside the ring, but what else can we expect? Lastly, fans see Andrade hitting Ciampa with The Message and taking the win. Andrade & Rey Fenix are the new #1 contenders to the WWE Tag titles defeating MCMG, Fraxiom, and #DIY. John Cena and Cody Rhodes' SummerSlam contract signing Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for. Adam Pearce brings Cody Rhodes to the stage who right away signs the SummerSlam contract. He then asks the crowd, "What do you want to talk about?' He talks to the crowd for a while before Pearce brings John Cena out. And it's not what anyone is expecting. Cena tells everyone that Hollywood has been draining these days, and so, he won't be at SummerSlam. Everyone is shocked, but Cena goes on to say that maybe they can have the rematch later, but he won't be signing the contract now, as he does not intend to show up at the New Jersey event. He goes to walk away, and that's when things take a turn. Fans see Rhodes charging up the ramp and attacking Cena from behind. It's a mess, as both men try to gain the edge over the other. Cena tries to use his championship belt as a weapon, but Rhodes is not having that and grabs it from his opponent, smashing Cena with it. He then climbs the top rope and does a Frog Splash, driving Cena through the announcer's table. He then grabs a pen and forces Cena to sign the SummerSlam contract. The night ends with Cody Rhodes holding on to the Undisputed Champion belt. John Cena's ex-fiancée shines bright on WWE RAW with first singles match in nearly seven years

Image via WWE & Instagram The reigning Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena has been on rest and recoupe for a few weeks since retaining his title against CM Punk at Night of Champions. However, his former love interest has been active on WWE television programming. Moreover, she was also a part of the all-women Premium Live Event, Evolution, this past weekend. She continued to keep the action going by competing in her first singles match in nearly seven years on the latest episode of Monday Night RAW. John Cena's ex-fiancée competed in a singles match on WWE RAW for the first time in seven years On the July 14th edition of Monday Night RAW, WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella was scheduled for a one-on-one match against Chelsea Green. This came after the events of the Women's Battle Royal, where Bella had eliminated Green from the match. Moreover, it was a dream match for Green, who had been vocal about having a bout against the former WWE Divas Champion. Nikki Bella proved that she had not missed a step, even if it was her first singles match after many years. She went up against the narcissistic Chelsea Green, who had her Secret Hervice ringside. Despite that, Bella delivered a spectacular performance against the former WWE Women's United States Champion and delivered an earth-shattering Rack Attack 2.0 to secure the pinfall. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo The WWE Hall of Famer had little time to celebrate, as The Secret Hervice and Chelsea Green attacked her from behind. They continued the beatdown until Stephanie Vaquer came down to the ring to the aid of Nikki Bella. Green had an altercation with La Primera before her match backstage, which ultimately led to Bella gaining an ally of her own. Moreover, the WWE Universe in attendance for RAW was thrilled to see Bella in action in a singles bout after a long time. Moreover, she has already revealed that her current run is going to last for a while. This would mean that WWE might have something planned for her for the upcoming first-ever two-night SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, and would add much star power to the show. How to watch WWE Evolution: Schedule, Peacock stream info, match card, preview including IYO SKY vs Rhea Ripley

Nearly seven years after the original, WWE returns with their second-ever all-women's Premium Live Event featuring a card set to showcase their unrivaled women's division at WWE Evolution this Sunday, streaming live at 7 p.m. ET exclusively on Peacock. In the main event, Rhea Ripley will have to do something she's never done before to regain the Women's World Title: beat IYO SKY one-on-one. In fact, SKY is the only woman who has topped Ripley since SummerSlam last year, when she overcame her for the world title in March on Raw. Sunday will be the first time they square off since their epic Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania 41, where SKY retained her title by pinning Bianca Belair. #IYOSKY won in an absolutely blazing #WrestleMania opening match! Tiffany Stratton will defend her WWE Women's Title in a dream match against none other than the legendary Trish Stratus. The two may have successfully teamed up at Elimination Chamber in February, but there will be no love lost as Stratus, the trailblazing Hall of Famer, seeks her eighth world title. Speaking of surefire Hall of Famers, Becky Lynch will defend her Intercontinental Championship in what is sure to be a heated Triple Threat Match against Bayley and Lyra Valkyria. The bad blood between these three runs deep. Allow me to explain. Last April, Lynch injured Bayley to take her spot alongside Valkyria at WrestleMania, where they became Tag Team Champions. The next night, they lost the tag titles, prompting Lynch to assault Valkyria. Valkyria successfully defended the IC Title against Lynch at Backlash, before Lynch dethroned her at Money in the Bank. Two nights later, Bayley returned and got some payback by ambushing Lynch. On Sunday, the past won't matter. The only thing that will is who walks out as champ. In another encounter that's sure to get very personal, Jade Cargill and Naomi will clash in a No Holds Barred Match. Despite losing to Cargill at WrestleMania, the Money in the Bank-wielding Naomi has continued to torment the women's division. Sunday is the perfect opportunity for the newly crowned Queen of the Ring to exact some sweet revenge. Elsewhere on the card, Jacy Jayne will defend her NXT Women's Title against Jordynne Grace, the Tag Team Titles will be on the line in a Fatal 4-Way Match, and a women's championship match will be up for grabs in a high-stakes Battle Royal. 'She probably has some kids she doesn't know of': When Triple H joked about former WWE star Paige's leaked video

Triple H is a bona fide icon in the WWE. The star, who retired from in-ring competition a few years ago and is now working as a top executive, is loved by many because of his charisma and mic skills. He shared the ring with the likes of The Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin during his days as a wrestler. 'The Game', however, has had some controversies as well. Nearly five years later, the then WWE Vice President landed in soup for his comments about Paige. Triple H once joked about Page's intimate video Paige is one of the biggest names in the professional wrestling business. She captivated the WWE audience with her solid in-ring style and edgy gimmick. She was the promotion's youngest Divas Champion. Her in-ring career, however, was cut short because of a neck injury. In 2015, She landed in a major controversy when her private video with Brad Maddock and Xavier Woods was leaked online. The incident took a toll on her and she described it as 'sad'. In 2020, WWE executive Triple H cracked a joke about the video while discussing her and Edge's potential return to in-ring competition from injury. He said that he wanted both to be healthy has 'The Rated-R Superstar' has kids and Paige 'probably has some kids she doesn't know' 'I'm a fan just like everyone else. I would love to see [Edge or Paige] step into the ring and compete. More importantly than that, though, I would like to see them live long, healthy lives. You know, Edge has kids. Paige—maybe—she probably has some she doesn't know of,' he had said. This did not go down well with netizens and they lashed out him. Later, Paige slammed him for his words. 'Even my boss jokes about me.. no wonder you guys still do it too,' she stated in a now deleted social media post. I've reached out to @RealPaigeWWE to apologize. I made a terrible joke and I'm sorry if it offended her or anyone else. Triple H eventually issued an apology for his 'terrible joke'. Will Paige appear at Evolution 2? Coming back to the present, the WWE is gearing up for Evolution 2, an all-women Premium Live Event (PLE). The buzz is that Paige, who returned to in-ring competition during her time in AEW, may appear at the she may be revealed as a surprise entrant in the Evolution Battle Royale. There's, however, no confirmation on the same. Evolution 2 will be held on July 13. Triple H, meanwhile, remains an integral part of the WWE landscape. He is currently the head of the WWE main roster creative team. .
