As the ordeal continues to drag on, one insider provided an unsettling update on the situation. Parsons, who is now in the final year of his rookie contract, has been vocal about wanting an extension ahead of the 2025 season. He had minor discussions with owner Jerry Jones earlier this year, but things fell apart when the star linebacker's agent got involved. Now, with the regular season just a few weeks away, the two sides remain at odds. Since training camp got underway, things have grown to a public feud between Parsons and the Cowboys. Jones has made some choice remarks over the last few weeks, and Parsons shocked the world with a viral social media post unveiling all his grievances. As this saga continues to unfold, there remains no end in sight. More Photo by/Getty Images During the latest episode of his podcast, ESPN's Adam Schefter touched on the latest regarding the disgruntled Cowboys star. He noted that it's been some time since the two sides spoke of an extension, and that things have crossed the line from business to personal. "You can't get a deal done if you're not even talking," Schefter said. "The two sides haven't had any negotiations since late March or early April. It sounds like at this point it's personal. It sounds like each side is dug in." Schefter mentioned that players have been able to overcome ugly feuds with management in the past. However, he feels that things between Parsons and the Cowboys cannot be fixed. "I see these two sides headed towards divorce in time," he continued. "The only question is when is that divorce going to happen and how is it gonna happen. Are they gonna trade him now, trade him after this year, or move on when." Jones quickly responded and stated that Dallas won't be entertaining such a move at this time. It's fully apparent that the relationship between Parsons and the Cowboys is completely untethered. Now the question remains if the All-Pro linebacker will take the field this season or opt to make things even messier by holding out. Browns Facing Backlash for Shedeur Sanders Decision

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Cleveland Browns quarterback situation became no clearer despite the announcement of Joe Flacco as the team's starting quarterback to begin the season. Along with the announcement, there is a growing belief that Cleveland will keep four quarterbacks for their active roster -- a tell of the lack of confidence they have in their situation under center after Flacco went 2-4 with the Indianapolis Colts last season. The most polarizing quarterback on the roster, Shedeur Sanders, showed he has potential in his lone preseason start. He completed 14 of 23 pass attempts for 138 yards passing and two touchdowns in a win over the Carolina Panthers. Read more: Did Dillon Gabriel Do Better Than Shedeur Sanders in Browns Debut? However, the bottleneck of backup quarterbacks, which includes former first-round pick Kenny Pickett, third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel, Tyler Huntley, and Sanders, has left the former Colorado Buffaloes star with a bleak outlook for his prospects of playing in the league. Sanders is listed as the fourth quarterback on the Browns' unofficial depth chart, leading to a plea from ESPN Cleveland radio host Tony Rizzo for Shedeur to be set free. They won't even let him play the 1s in practice," Rizzo said on Aug. 19, referring to the selection of Sanders in the fifth round after Gabriel. "Why did they draft him? Why? If I'm that kid, I respectfully go into that office and go, 'You guys, thank you for the opportunity, but can I please go somewhere where I have a chance to play?' " "You're not giving him a chance to start, you're not, they won't even let him play the 1s in the practice," - @TheRealTRizzo on Shedeur in the QB competition. — ESPN Cleveland (@ESPNCleveland) August 19, 2025 Cleveland remains at an impasse with its situation at quarterback since the Deshaun Watson deal -- and their path forward remains unclear. More NFL: Browns' Dillon Gabriel Sends Clear Message on Shedeur Sanders Diss Trotting out Flacco would be a safe move toward finishing in the middle of the pack this season. Meanwhile, starting Sanders or Gabriel would offer more upside or result in a race to the bottom, where they would end the season with a top-five pick to draft a blue-chip quarterback prospect the following year. But for the Browns to realize the value of landing Sanders in the draft, they must play him or trade him. For more on the Cleveland Browns and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Bears Head Coach Doesn't Hold Back About Caleb Williams

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Chicago Bears are heading into the 2025 NFL season with big goals of being a playoff contender in the stacked NFC. In order to accomplish that goal, they are going to need second-year quarterback Caleb Williams to come through with a big year. Williams showed major flashes during his rookie season with the Bears. However, there were still questions surrounding him. During the offseason, there were times where Williams looked downright awful. Plenty of video clips surfaced that showed him struggling with basic quarterback drills. Read more: NFL Insider Hints at Browns Parting Ways With Shedeur Sanders On Sunday night against the Buffalo Bills, Williams shredded the defense apart. He completed six of his 10 pass attempts for 107 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. Williams looked extremely sharp. Following that performance, first-year Chicago head coach Ben Johnson spoke out about his young quarterback. Johnson did not hold back from making a very bold statement about where his starting quarterback is at and how he's developing. "He's really been locked in," Johnson said. "Anytime you're a young player, there's usually a couple of steps forward and one step back. And that's really been the story of this training camp. He and I have been really open and honest about it as we've gone through. And he's had some really good practices, and he's had a couple where, it's not good enough. I thought really the three days of practice we had this week and this game were the most he's stacked up good days in a row right now. The challenge is going to be keep pushing that direction." Williams also spoke out on the same page with Johnson. He knows that he needs to keep growing as a player and as a leader. "I think I had a couple of those practices throughout training camp where I feel like I took two steps forward," Williams said. "Maybe a bad practice or small things that I feel like I got over and then I took a step back. So, it's just being able to keep that mindset. The growth mindset, the idea that it's an understanding of that -- keep growing and keep after it and keep leading these guys." Read more: Ravens' New Jaire Alexander Update Is Extremely Concerning During his rookie season with the Bears, Williams played in 17 games. He completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Only time will tell if Williams can take the step he needs to take in his second season. For now, Johnson is clearly confident in his quarterback's ability and his preseason performance against the Bills is a good step in the right direction. Mike Vrabel's Biggest Pet Peeve Has Nothing To Do With Football

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. If you thought Mike Vrabel could get mad on the sidelines during an NFL game, that's apparently nothing compared to how annoyed the New England Patriots head coach can get at the local coffee shop. Or, more specifically, the local coffee shop parking lot. The first-year Patriots coach sat down with The Athletic's Dianna Russini during the team's trip to Minnesota, and when he was asked for his biggest pet peeve, Vrabel didn't hold back. (Photo by) More "People when they leave their carts in the middle of the parking lot and they don't take them back to the cart return," Vrabel replied. Vrabel then quickly shifted gears, directing even more scorn to another parking lot offender. "And then, the people at Starbucks who park in the handicapped spot and go in there and try to get their order from the mobile order. (They are) by no means handicapped," Vrabel said to Russini. "I look in the dash, I look -- and then I wait and I just approach them," he continued. "I say things like 'Why did you park here?' One person would be like 'Oh, I'm with DoorDash,' and I'm like, 'I don't care. That's unacceptable.' Then there's the mom that's going to yoga, and she's rushing because she's late, and I'm like, this is ridiculous." As to how society should handle these sorts of things, Vrabel channeled his inner Nathaniel Hawthorne. "I wish I had a boot. That's a great idea. I would boot their car, just like a mobile boot that says, 'I parked in a handicapped spot, and I'm not handicapped,'" he added. Consider yourself warned, New England -- especially the greater Foxboro area. More NFL: NFL Insider Shares Major Message on Eagles' Trade Mindset
