Press Taylor should benefit from new role with Bears

The Chicago Bears hired Press Taylor as their offensive passing game coordinator, further adding to their coaching staff under head coach Ben Johnson. Most recently serving the role as the Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator for the past three seasons, Taylor has been in the NFL since 2013 and brings a load of experience to a staff full of veteran coaches. Former NFL player and current analyst Clay Harbor, who crossed paths with Taylor during their time with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars, gave more insight to Taylor who he believes may have been misunderstood in Jacksonville. During an interview with 670 the Score, Harbor said that Taylor's lack of success did not gain him any fanfare with the Jaguasrs, but he believes the play-calling controversy and miscommunication created a bad public perception of Taylor. "He's an excellent human, he's a guy that is going to work his tail off," Harbor said. "If you ask any Jacksonville Jaguar fan, they do not like Press Taylor. The big controversy down there was [former coach] why is Doug Pederson letting Press Taylor call plays, everyone thought Doug Pederson should be calling plays. There was this big controversy and it obviously didn't add up to success for [quarterback] Trevor Lawrence. He's a smart guy, he's been around ball, he's been around a number of quarterbacks, but for whatever reason in Jacksonville he was given the opportunity but he didn't have success taking the reigns." Now that Taylor will be on the Bears staff as the passing game coordinator, Harbor believes the role with less responsibility will suit him better and bring out the best in him as a coach.
