Punjab Congress MP alleges threat to son's life by gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria
Gurdaspur Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who is also a former deputy chief minister of Punjab, on Friday alleged that jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria had threatened to kill his son, Udhayveer Singh Randhawa. Gurdaspur Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who is also a former deputy chief minister of Punjab, on Friday alleged that jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria had threatened to kill his son, Udhayveer. (HT file photo) In a post shared on X, Randhawa said: 'Jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria has threatened to kill my son. One of my associates met my son and within an hour of leaving he was fired upon today.' The Lok Sabha member, who is in Delhi for the monsoon session, refused to be intimidated and said: 'I am in Delhi for the Parliament session. No gangster can shake me.' He blamed chief minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal for 'turning Punjab into a gangster's paradise where law and order has totally collapsed'. The incident comes a little over a month after Bhagwanpuria's mother, Harjit Kaur, and their relative, Karanvir Singh, were shot dead at Batala in Gurdaspur district on June 26. The rival Davinder Bambiha gang took responsibility for the murder. Bhagwanpuria's relatives had named Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and his son Udhayveer in the complaint after the double murder. The gangster, who has links with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, is lodged in Assam's Silchar Central Jail since March after being detained under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Since 2012, Bhagwanpuria faces 128 cases, including murders, extortion, Arms Act violations and 13 crimes under the NDPS Act. He is also suspected to be involved in the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. Reacting to the threat, Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said, 'A gangster has the audacity to threaten a senior Indian National Congress leader and a former deputy chief minister and a sitting MP, from inside the jail! Imagine the plight of common people in Punjab. They are at the mercy of gangsters. The Aam Aadmi Party has destroyed Punjab. We in the Congress will not be intimidated. As Randhawa sahab has put it simple and straight. But that does not mean that the AAP government can run away from its responsibility.'

Police seized 22.71g of MDMA from Vazhakkala in Thrikkakara and 2.57g of MDMA near Ernakulam KSRTC stand. From Thrikkakara, police arrested Shameer P M, 49, of Palluruthy with the contraband and confiscated Rs 92,500. The accused has three other drug-related cases against him, said police. Police added that further action, including invoking Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS Act) against him, is under consideration. Meanwhile, Sony Jinnas C, 24, and Sanal V B, 24, both from Kaloor, were caught allegedly with 2.57g of MDMA from a lodge near KSRTC stand. Delhi Police tighten noose on drug peddlers under stringent PITNDPS Act
New Delhi: Delhi police have stepped up action against notorious drug traffickers under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS Act), with plans to detain nearly three dozen offenders. One of them is 40-year-old Kusum, a well-known figure in the city's criminal records. The PITNDPS Act allows preventive detention of accused traffickers for up to one year without trial. The police have to prove their sustained involvement in drug trafficking to a screening committee of the Narcotics Control Bureau. Once cleared, the Ministry of Home Affairs approves the detention. Police officials said that since 2021, they have invoked this act to crack down on drug traffickers and disrupt their networks. In one instance, a repeat offender from Bareilly, arrested multiple times with large quantities of heroin, was transferred to a jail in Chennai to isolate him from his associates. So far this year, four detention orders have been issued under the act, with three already executed. The crackdown is part of the government's 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' (Drug-Free India) campaign. While only 28 traffickers were detained under PITNDPS in the past four years, police now plan to act against 35 offenders this year alone. A list of repeat offenders -- those involved in two or more cases -- is being compiled by various police districts. Kusum, who is currently absconding, remains a key target. A financial probe has already led to the attachment of assets worth Rs 5 crore allegedly amassed through drug money. These include assets in Sultanpuri in northwest Delhi, and Rohini's Sector–24. Though the process is lengthy, officials said proceedings are underway and efforts have intensified to clamp down on the drug trade across the capital.

Days after the murder of jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's mother Harjit Kaur and cousin Karanvir Singh in Batala, his sister-in-law was arrested from Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport on Monday night while returning to Australia. Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's sistet-in-law had come to India to attend the last rites of her mother-in-law and had reached the Amritsar airport on Monday night to board a flight to Australia, said police. (HT) Lovjit Kaur was wanted by Batala police in connection with the May 26 murder of gangster Gurpreet Singh, alias Gora Bariar. She had come to India to attend the last rites of her mother-in-law and had reached the Amritsar airport on Monday night to board a flight to Australia, said police. But with a lookout circular (LOC) already out against her, airport authorities alerted the police. She was promptly taken into custody by the Amritsar City police. As per sources, the local police quizzed her through the night and handed her over to Batala police on Tuesday morning. The Batala police are ascertaining her possible role in the recent murders and her connection with other accused individuals. Fearing arrest, Bhagwanpuria's brother Mandeep Singh skipped his mother's last rites. His wife was present in his stead. The Davinder Bambiha gang has claimed responsibility for the twin murders on June 26, claiming that Harjit Kaur and Karanvir had been managing the criminal operations of Bhagwanpuria. Reportedly the mentor of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Bhagwanpuria is an accused in the May 2022 murder of Sidhu Moose Wala. In March this year, he was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and shifted from Bathinda central jail to Assam's Silchar jail on the recommendation of the Narcotics Control Bureau.
