Congestion pricing opponents vow to refile cases

NEW YORK (PIX11) — The cameras are expected to stay on and opponents of congestion pricing in New York City are headed back to court. It has been another week of developments regarding congestion pricing. More Local News This weekend is the deadline imposed by the U.S. Department of Transportation to revoke approval of congestion pricing. The date on Sunday is expected to pass and the cameras will remain operational. The MTA filed suit against President Donald Trump's administration to prevent the deadline from taking effect. Court paperwork indicates the parties have agreed to take up the issue during the case and set a timeline for hearings in the fall. More Congestion Pricing News A federal judge on Thursday dismissed some of the cases brought by opponents, including a coalition of neighbors known as New Yorkers Against Congestion Pricing Tax and a trucking association. The groups argue that the state did not follow proper procedure to set up the system. They plan to take their case to state court. The program started in January and charges fees for most vehicles to travel south of 60th Street in Manhattan. Most passenger cars pay $9 during peak times and $2.25 during off-peak times. There are exemptions, including for travel through tunnels. The MTA has said transit ridership is up and traffic volume has decreased. The program is raising about $50 million a month. Opponents and some business owners say they're seeing fewer customers. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
