Pride Month kicks off Sunday on Jacksonville's Riverfront

June is Pride Month, and Jacksonville's LGBTQ+ community and its allies plan to celebrate. On Sunday, June 1, two events are planned Downtown. The 5th Annual Acosta Bridge Pride March will begin at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in taking part is asked to wear rainbow colors, bring Pride flags, and meet under the Acosta Bridge by the San Marco Skyway Station. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< After that, at 8:20 p.m., will be the Pride in our Freedoms Community Bridge Lighting. Participants will line the pedestrian walkway of the bridge and shine rainbow-colored lights. At the same time, there will be a watch party at Friendship Fountain. In a news release, organizers said, "Born from resistance to the Florida Department of Transportation's attempt to dim the Acosta Bridge Pride lights in 2021, this year marks the fifth anniversary of the Acosta Bridge Pride March. Five years later, our message remains the same: Lights or no lights, there will always be rainbows on the Acosta Bridge in June." They issued a similar statement about the Main Street Bridge lighting. "The Main Street Bridge faces the Acosta Bridge. The latter, up until 2023, was illuminated in rainbow colors at the start of Pride Month. Today, it is illuminated in red, white and blue. The two color schemes, facing each other, symbolize the interconnection of Pride and Freedom. There can be no freedom without diversity, and there is no diversity without freedom. These ideals are inextricable and inalienable." Musk's ex announces performance cancellation citing 'family issues'

'I am so, so sorry and regretful to say I have to cancel my pride show in order to deal with family issues,' she wrote on Musk's social media platform, X. 'I want to say that I am aware the situation has been a great inconvenience to the fans for some time, and I am truly determined to make sure this is no longer the case very soon. I think the show is still going to be amazing and the lineup is great. I hope this is early enough and gives people enough time if they wish to change their plans.' Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, vowed to 'make this up' to her fans 'very soon', signing off with a message sending 'so much love always.' She was due to perform at the World Pride Festival next month - a two-day extravaganza in Washington D.C. to coincide with Pride Month. Other performers include Troye Sivan, RuPaul, Jennifer Lopez, Rita Ora and Kim Petras. Grimes' latest admission about dealing with family issues comes on the back of a highly publicized and drawn out battle with Musk over decisions about how they parent their eldest son, X. As Musk grew closer to President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, little X was often pictured at political events in and around the White House. She publicly revealed she had 'begged' the DOGE chief and 'tried legal recourse' to keep their children away from the White House and out of the spotlight. 'I have tried begging the public and my kids dad to keep them offline, and I've tried legal recourse,' Grimes admitted. Grimes in February sent a panicked X message to Musk about one of their child's 'medical crisis,' highlighting for the world that she was having trouble reaching him privately. 'Plz respond about our child's medical crisis,' she wrote to her ex. 'I am sorry to do this publicly but it is no longer acceptable to ignore this situation. This requires immediate attention.' She added that Musk didn't even have to respond to her but could contact her through a third party. 'If you don't want to talk to me can you please designate or hire someone who can so that we can move forward on solving this. This is urgent, Elon.' Grimes went on to clarify that trying to reach Musk on social media was a last resort because he had not responded to her. 'I'm not giving any details but he won't respond to texts call or emails and has skipped every meeting and our child will suffer life long impairment if he doesn't respond asap,' she wrote. 'So I need him to [expletive] respond and if I have to apply public pressure then I guess that's where we are at.' After Techno was born, Grimes sued Musk in September 2023 over parental rights to their children in a California court. Musk allegedly fought to keep the hearing closed, asking for the documents to be sealed. She claimed that Musk was withholding access to her kids and even prevented them from seeing their terminally ill maternal grandmother. Musk then sued for for custody of the children he shares with Grimes in Texas, where his businesses are headquartered. A Travis County Clerk has since confirmed that the Texas dispute had been settled, but declined to give further details. Grimes addressed the challenges of motherhood as recently as May 10, writing: 'motherhood 100% THE MOST NOBLE task. Large portions of society think having children is a selfish decision. They do not understand having kids is the most selfless decision, an investment in all of us. And that's crazy to me.' Two months ago, she revealed she had been diagnosed with autism and ADHD , and believes she is likely also dyslexic. 'Got diagnosed w ADHD/ autism this year and realized I'm prob dyslexic which is why I can't spell without spellcheck.' She said that if she had known that she has ADHD and autism as a child, 'I would have worked so much less hard' and would have been put on medication for the conditions. The Genesis singer also argued that her 'weird obsessions and motivations' would likely have been viewed as 'pathological' at the time.
