Princes Eugenie reveals the most important lesson she learned from her mother Sarah Ferguson

Princess Eugenie has revealed the most important life given to her by her mother, Sarah Ferguson. During a recent interview for Cressida Bonas's podcast, Lessons From Our Mothers, the youngest of Prince Andrew's brood said learning to harness one's inner strength was one of the most important lessons she had gleaned from her mother. The daughters of the Duchess of York, Princessess Eugenie, 35, and Beatrice, 36, are known to share a close bond with Sarah and even refer to themselves as the 'tripod '. Both appeared on the podcast last month, joined by hosts Cressida and Isabella Branson, to reflect on what thy had learned from Sarah over the years. Revealing the most important takeaway from her upbringing, Eugenie said: 'I think for me, it's the fire inside, you know, the strength inside of you. And how to bring that out, and to pull it in when you most need it'. The sisters emphasised the importance of 'collaborating' with one another to source solutions, something else they had picked up from Sarah, affectionately known as Fergie. 'The forced collaboration, you're slightly annoyed about because she's pushing on a bit of a nerve, but the forced collaboration and that joy of the making up at the end was a big part of what she instilled in us,' Beatrice said. 'This sense that it's OK to feel, it's OK to push on those emotions, but you have to figure out what the resolution looks like as well. So she was very resolution-driven,' the royal added. 'The more I get to know her in my life, the more incredible this woman is becoming. As a mum, she is becoming more effervescent in her ability to bring joy,' she gushed, adding that Sarah was now 'reaching her greatness' aged 64. Achievements that Beatrice was particularly proud of given 'what's she been through in the last year', predominately related to her various 'health issues'. The Duchess, who shares Beatrice and Eugenie with ex-husband Prince Andrew, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, just months before receiving another diagnosis for malignant melanoma. Though she remains positive, having recently described feeling 'better than ever', the mother-of-two has been told by doctors to avoid the phrase 'cancer free'. Reflecting on Sarah's strength and compassion for other's battling cancer, Beatrice said: 'She loves nothing more than meeting people and those that are also suffering from cancer because there's so much empathy there.' She added that she was grateful to still have her mother 'around' for when she herself 'needs mothering'. Reflecting on their own bond, Beatrice and Eugenie credited their close relationship to their mother's lose ties to her sister, Jane. It comes just days after Princess Eugenie shared a rare glimpse into her own life as a mother, sharing a sweet tribute to her 'golden boy', Ernest, as she celebrated his second birthday with husband, Jack Brooksbank. On Friday, she shared a series of photographs of her sons Ernest, two, and August, four, to mark her youngest's birthday on Friday. In one photograph, Ernest is thrown into the air by his father while on a snowy ski trip. In another, he plays in the mud with his four-year-old brother. Ernie is also seen being held by his mother while on a ski trip, the youngster bundled up in a bright teal snowsuit and holding firmly to a lion-shaped comforter. And in another, he adorably wears a pair of sunglasses upside-down. The mother-of-two said: 'Happy Birthday my darling Ernie. 2 today! And what an incredible two years it's been. 'Always smiling, always laughing, always giving hugs and hello's and making everyone happy. 'My golden boy, we love you!' In other pictures from the rare snapshot, Ernie and August are seen holding hands as they walk down a street in London, with another picturing them together on an airplane. Eugenie recently opened up about the 'sense of shame' she felt when she first saw her scoliosis scar. In a rare, wide-ranging interview, the royal mother-of-two, 34, also discussed how her Sarah Ferguson raised her to be proud of her scar after she went underwent surgery at the age of 12. In 2002, Queen Elizabeth II's granddaughter had rods inserted into her spine after she was diagnosed with scoliosis (curvature of the spine), and told that she would need corrective surgery. After the eight-hour operation, Prince Andrew's daughter spent three days in intensive care, a week on a spinal ward and six days in a wheelchair before she was able to walk again. Speaking to The Telegraph, Eugenie revealed she had a 'sense of shame' when she couldn't wash or dress herself and was shown her scar, which runs down her neck and spine. However, she claimed her mother, the Duchess of York, removed all the stigma about the scar and helped her see it in a positive light. Eugenie said: 'She was amazing. She'd ask me if she could show it to people, then she'd turn me around and say, "my daughter is superhuman, you've got to check out her scar". 'All of sudden it was a badge of honour – a cool thing I had. It trained my brain that it's ok, scars are cool.'

Lady Frederick Windsor spills ‘disgusting' detail about her royal wedding

'Disgusting'. That's not a word you hear too often when it comes to the royal family unless it's some anonymous Windsor source huffing down a Bakelite phone about Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's latest home shopping network juicer side-hustle. That or someone has left oat milk in the palace fridge again. But not today with a royal bride having come out and given a shockingly (and wonderfully) candid interview, revealing she didn't pick out her own wedding dress, knew very few people at the reception and even admitting that there was one detail she found 'disgusting'. Everyone say a polite hello to Sophie Winkleman who is also Lady Frederick Windsor and while she might not be a household name in Australia, she is very much between the royal bosom. Back before it was restricted to working members of the royal maily, she used to be able to be spotted the Buckingham Palace balcony, and these days you are likely to spy her having a jolly old time of it with 'dear friend' King Charles in the royal box at Ascot or doing her bit to support Kate, The Princess of Wales' annual Christmas concert. Extra points if you knew her daughter Maud Windsor used to be in the same London class as Prince George and was a bridesmaid at Princess Eugenie's wedding. Specifically, Sophie is married to Lord Frederick Windsor, the son of Prince and Princess Micahel of Kent and the King's second cousin, and while Freddie is so far down the line of succession you have to squint at number 54 but still, the couple are very much in the titled thick of it. (Lord Frederick was 17th in line when he was born.) This week Sophie, who also happens to be a working actress, has given a new interview and admitted some wonderfully indiscrete details about her own royal wedding. The year was 2009, long before the les Windosrs would 'welcome' another TV gal into their midst, and with Prince William yet to pop the question to long time squeeze Kate Middleton, what the UK needed was a royal wedding. A guest list was assembled about the length of an abridged copy of Burke & Peerage, Hampton Court Palace was rightfully booked for the affair and various HRHs were assembled (Princess Eugenie, the Duke and Duchess of Kent). However now Sophie has admitted that there was a part of the day she found 'disgusting'. Speaking to the Telegraph this week she said: 'It was such a blur because we had to move to Los Angeles the day after and I had to start a brand new job the day after that…I'd been so concentrating on the work that I hadn't thought about the wedding.' Enter unto the breach her future mother-in-law and longtime Buckingham Palace balcony stalwart Princess Michael of Kent who 'sort of took it all over,' said Sophie. 'I actually didn't mind at all. I thought, 'Great, do everything''. The end result, based on photos, is of a frou-frou-y affair that even diehard Cinderella-stans might have considered OTT; 'fairytale' was never going to be used as an adjective. In the cold light of 2025, Sophie does not sound exactly enamoured of all that bugle-beaded 'everything'. 'My hair was so disgusting and Freddy still gets upset about it. It was just disgusting. And my mother-in-law chose my dress, which was very sweet and puffy, but I looked barking,' she told the Telegraph. 'I look back on it and think I should have worn a simpler dress and I should have got my hair blow dried by someone who'd done it before'. This is not the first time that deliciously unfiltered Sophie has pulled back the curtain on her Windsor nuptials and what goes into planning a royal hitchin'. 'I didn't know anyone at my wedding. I had my best pals there but basically it was full of faces I'd never seen before,' she told Tatler in December last year. During that same interview she enthused about Princess Michael having 'brilliantly' 'taken full personal charge' of the 400-person event and said, 'I was so determined not to be a bridezilla, I didn't even work out my hairstyle and I cannot tell you how disgusting it looked.' Coming up the aisle, the first thing I said when I saw Freddie was, 'I'm so sorry about the hair.'' He said, 'Yes, what on earth have you done?'' While the Sussexes have hardly been tight-lipped about what a rough trot Meghan had joining Crown Inc, Sophie has only ever raved about her extended in-laws. She told Tatler last year: 'Behind the camera they're really fun, clever, kind people...I love Catherine and William, but they're so busy and don't live in London, so I don't see them much.' Meanwhile, Charles 'is a very dear friend'. 'I spend a bit of time with him,' she told the Times in 2020. 'You see how he works all day long, has a quick supper and then disappears until about 4am to write letters. 'He cares about so many things and he comes up with brilliant solutions. 'I've been incredibly welcomed with open arms by all of them. I haven't had a single negative experience. 'They'd never tell me off at all if I wanted to play some [racy] role. Everyone's looked after me.' And she means that quite literally. The late Queen and Charles both offered practical support after Sophie broke her back in a 2017 car crash during she thought she was 'a goner'. After the accident, Charles (then the Prince of Wales) tasked his Clarence House cook to provide Freddie and Sophie's family with twice-a-day meals, 'for weeks on end . . . It was life saving'. Then, during her recuperation, Queen Elizabeth suggested a solution to help her manage the pain of rehab. As Sophie told Tatler: 'She said, 'We can't have that. You have to go in the water.' She told us that when horses had broken backs, they swam, and so she let me use her pool at Buckingham Palace. 'That's the reason I got better. It was so typically thoughtful.' Blimey. The Palace pool. 'Disgusting' hair. Looking 'barking'. It would be remiss of me here to not play a quick game of Sussex Subbing. What if all of this had come out of Meghan's mouth instead? Imagine a lit match going off in a fireworks factory built on top of an oil refinery. Kablooey. There is a lesson in all of this for any Cinderella-ish aspirants. Don't overlook the very clear benefits to being wed to No. 54 rather than anyone in the single digits, of marrying far farther down the royal rung. Just think, all the invitations to Ascot and Westminster Abbey, none of wing-clipping self sacrifices of senior royaldom and the occasional chance to do a lap in the palace pool. Eugenie tells of delight at becoming mentor to changemakers at King's charity

Princess Eugenie has expressed her delight at becoming a mentor for The King's Foundation's new 35 under 35 network of changemakers. The late Queen's granddaughter praised the selection of young creatives for their 'outstanding work in areas the King is passionate about'. Charles's niece Eugenie visited the Garrison Chapel, the London exhibition space of the monarch's charity, last week to meet some of the group. The 35 under 35 have been brought together in the foundation's 35th anniversary year to promote the change the King wants to see globally across sustainability, traditional crafts and the arts. Eugenie's new role for the King's charity emerged last week and the princess, who is a director at Hauser & Wirth contemporary gallery, said she was looking forward to sharing her passion for art. The princess said: 'I'm delighted to be working with this group of exceptional young people who have been selected thanks to their outstanding work in areas the King is passionate about. 'Given I recently celebrated my 35th birthday, it's fitting to take part in the charity's 35th anniversary celebrations and share my passion for art with the 35 under 35.' Other mentors include designer Samuel Ross, artist and influencer Sophie Tea Art, and historian Alice Loxton, who has millions of followers on social media as @history_alice. The list of 35 under 35 includes woodworker Eli Baxter, embroiderer Angelica Ellis, basketmaker Florence Hamer, stonemason Freya de Lisle, milliner Barnaby Horn, painter Jo Rance, and environmental filmmaker Jack Harries. This week, Eugenie was specially invited to the Buckingham Palace garden party by the Prince and Princess of Wales, after they requested she and Zara Tindall accompany them.
